Unbound Faith (Bulletproof #1) Page 15

by J. L. Baldwin

He trails off with his sentence and I want to know more. “What Zac?” I ask, trying to coax the rest of the sentence from him.

He sighs. “I want you to keep your heart open for me. I don’t want you to close it off to me, ever. You hear me?”

He says so sweetly and I nod. Zac leans forward and my stomach does that stupid little flip thing and I hope he’s about to kiss me again but his lips go upward and he places a soft, chaste kiss on my forehead. Disappointing. I was hoping for a repeat of what happened earlier. As much as my body craves him again, I can’t help but think he doesn’t really want me like he claims he does. Which is ridiculous, considering what we just did. The memories will always stay with me.

“Jayde?” He asks, pulling me from my very crude thoughts. I shake my head. “Huh, what? Oh sorry I was…thinking.” Zac takes a step towards me, giving me a smoldering look. “Thinking about me?” He asks, nudging me a little playfully. I shrug trying to hide my smile.

“Maybe I was, maybe I wasn’t.” That’s a lie, I was totally thinking about him and what he can do to me. “Don’t worry too much babe. The only thing you need to worrying about is me peeling you out of your dress later on.” I blush slightly, sending heat spreading throughout my entire body. God, why does he say dirty things like that? He leans in and kisses me on the cheek softly before whispering in my ear, “See you later princess.” And then he was gone, without another word being spoken. I’ve never had somebody speak to me the way he does. It heightened everything inside and made me shake with desire. My whole body was on fire. Even though thoughts of Zac taking me a million different ways, against the wall, on my bed, on the kitchen counter, on the hood of my car and many more erotic destinations in my apartment, I have to keep my head clear, despite how my body is feeling right now. My head has to remain one hundred percent clear. After he left, I blankly noticed the box still in my hand and I smile, thinking of the luxurious gift. “I saw it and I thought of you.” I can still remember hearing him saying. I can’t wait to show Anna and Sarah this beautiful necklace. To keep it safe, I walk to my make-shift bedroom and store it on the dresser sitting in the corner. It’s not a whole lot but I’m still in the process of packing things up from my childhood home.

  Chapter 25

  Jayde

A sudden vibration from a phone call has me pulling my phone out of my pocket, I see I have two missed calls, both from Anna. Great, she’s probably pissed now. I send her a quick text. “Hey, you called?” Her response was immediate. “I call twice, TWICE bitch and you text me back? You had better been doing something I would do for you to be texting me back.” Do I dare tell her I was getting all hot and heavy with my mystery guy turned date? Not to mention he took my virginity on my apartment floor? “I was…busy.” That earned me a phone call and hesitancy was rearing its ugly head when I went to answer. “Yes?” She screamed. “Okay, you’re busy and my busy are two totally different things. When I’m busy, it involves sex. When you’re busy, it usually involves those smutty, excuse-for-the-real-thing books. Now spill. Because why do I have the feeling that you’re hiding something?” Damn, was she psychic? “Well, maybe. But don’t flip out on me.” Again, more screaming. “Aren’t you at work? I bet your boss will be pissed you’re on the phone and you’re screaming.” She laughed at me. “Don’t change the subject and no I’m not at work. Well I was but I’m back home now. Spill it out now bitch. What happened?”

“Gee, I love how you’re so kind and sweet, Anna.” I can hear her smile on the other end. “Fuck off bitch. Quit changing the subject.” I sigh and begin the whole story of Zac coming over to my apartment. Since I didn’t give him my address, I had no clue how he found me. “He likes you, and I mean really likes you.” She says after I finish. “Why can’t you see that?”

“I do see Anna. I really do. Otherwise we wouldn’t have made out right here in my living room entrance way not twenty minutes ago. And I’m not talking a simple peck, I’m talking about the hot, curl your toes, don’t tell your momma about it kiss.” I pulled the phone away from my ear in preparation of the scream that would immediately follow, and I was right. “Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, you made out with hunky hunk? The beach god? The…the…”

“The insanely hot man who is now my date to the charity ball? Yeah, him.” I smile.

“Oh, and there’s one more thing.” I hesitate on what I’m about to tell her. Should I mention it?

“Well, what is it? Go on spill.” Damn, she’s persistent.

“Well, we kind of had sex on my apartment floor.” Again, I pull the phone away from my ear but I was too late. She screamed so loud I’m sure the neighbors heard her. “Are you fucking kidding me? You had sex with the beach god? How was he? Was he big? He probably fucks really well, doesn’t he? Oh my god you slut. I can’t believe you.”

I laugh out loud. This was the exact reaction I knew would happen the first time I tell Anna I lost my virginity. This was all too much. “Well believe it. I lost my virginity to the beach Adonis. And I have no shame.”

She laughs. “I knew there was a sex kitten down inside you somewhere. You slutty chick. I’m proud of you.” She says, “Who would have thought you lose your virginity on the floor? What happened to the girl who said she wanted the rose petals and the black satin sheets for her first time?”

“I guess I had a change of heart. You never know with me, so it shouldn’t surprise you.”

She laughs, “No, it doesn’t surprise me. I should have expected the unexpected with you. You’re so random but I love it. God, you…you. I can’t. I look at him and I can tell he’s an animal in bed. You lucky bitch.” We both laugh at her statement. I was pretty lucky. Zac was an amazing man. And he wanted me, just as much as I wanted him.

“Oh yes, god just looking at him makes everything inside go all fuzzy.” She says and I imagine her fanning herself. I don’t blame her because I was doing the same thing. “Believe me girl, I know it. Listen, I got to go and check emails for work before I head back home and continue packing, you want to catch up later on at the coffee shop? I think Sarah is closing tonight.”

“Sure thing. I will see you there around 8. Bye girl, love you.”

“Love you too. Bye.” And she hangs up and I grab my laptop out of the living room I brought with me. The fact that I carry it around attached to my hip is really scary. There’s only one problem, I don’t have any internet. When my laptop is powered on, I notice there’s a hotspot next door. Huh, that’s strange. Whoever named their WiFi their apartment number must have had people visiting frequently? Or, he was a creepy stalker. Either one, I didn’t care really. I can handle myself. Grabbing my laptop and keys, I leave my apartment and make my way down the hall to whoever lives there, praying they’ll allow me to use their internet.

  Chapter 26

  Jayde

Knock, knock, and knock three times to Apartment 10B. Somebody starts rustling around and a sudden whispered “shit” is heard when I hear something being knocked over. The voice sounded masculine. Great, I hope it’s not another playboy. The last thing I need to be living next to is another playboy. When the door opens, a set of beautiful brown eyes behind thick black rimmed glasses stare back at me. Sweet Jesus. I usually don’t go for the nerdy guys but the entire nerd look works for him. His plaid shirt presses against what can only be described as solid muscle. With the jeans that look like they are about 3 sizes too small but hey, I’m not complaining. He wasn’t built like the Rock, but he was no puny thing either. Somewhere in between, which was how I liked it. Or not, damn I needed to get my emotions under control.

“Hello?” He finally asks, and I shake my head of my thoughts. Fuck, I think I was caught staring. “Sorry, I umm this may sound really awkward and silly but I just moved in next door and I don’t have any internet in my apartment yet and I was wondering if maybe I could use yours?” I asked. He only spoke one word but it was enough. He totally had the whole Clark Kent look going on. “Sorry, I’m new around
here so I’m on edge a little bit.” He smiled. Smiling was good, right? “And staring at total strangers on their doorstep somehow makes you feel less on edge?” He asks sarcastically and I turn away, slightly angry at his response and a little embarrassed.

“No.” I say through gritted teeth. “Maybe this was a mistake, I’m sorry for bothering you.” I say before turning and walking back towards my apartment. Before I can get two steps away, he grabs my hand and stops me. “No I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have been rude. I’m Finn.” He stuck his hand out for me to shake and I did. His grip was strong, steady and my small chubby hand fit comfortably in his. “I’m umm J…Jayde. It’s nice to meet you.” I say. He smiles and flashes perfect pearly white teeth. Shit, he’s perfect. Way too perfect. Red flag number one immediately shot up. Too bad my body wasn’t getting the memo, and was clearing attracted to Finn something fierce. Not to mention I had been with Zac a few moments ago, making sweet love on my apartment floor. Fuck I needed to get my priorities in line. The way my body hummed while I was around him wasn’t good. Or maybe it was. My body likes to override my brain sometimes. “Anyway…” I say.

“Anyway.” He repeats, smiling wide. The subject at hand needs to be brought back up. “Mind if I use your internet?” Finn looks down my body then slowly back up looking like he is mentally capturing every square inch of my body with his eyes. “Sure, come on inside.” As he turns and disappears into his apartment, I slowly step in time behind him while I close the door behind me. “I hope this doesn’t sound weird or mean or rude, but why do you have your WiFi named after your apartment number? That’s just weird.” He laughs whole heartedly and it echoes throughout the entire apartment. “Well there’s no way I can take offense, can I?” He says and I smile. “Well you can but I would feel like a total jerk if you did.” I reply, setting my laptop on the cute little dining room table built for two. Hmm, bachelor, I think to myself.

Looking around his apartment, I notice the simple little trinkets around. There are post cards on a bulletin board in his living room that houses about a hundred different cards, obviously from traveling. I point to one in the far corner. “Rome? You’ve been to Rome?” I ask.

“Indeed I have. Beautiful city, and the food is amazing.” Finn says, stepping up behind me to where his front is just inches from my back. In my mind, I step forward but out here in the real world, where my mind isn’t going mad, I don’t move a muscle. Quickly noting the closeness, I step forward. “And this one?” I point to a post card from London. “Ahh yes London, England. The finest city in the world. Where ole Buckingham palace is housed and where Lizzy lives.” I turn to gape at him slightly disappointed.

“Lizzy? Is she your girlfriend?” I assume and he grins. “Hardly. She’s the Queen of England.”

“And you refer to her majesty as ‘Lizzy?’” He shakes his head.

“Nope, not at all. That would be disrespectful. No I always referred to her as ‘Your Majesty.’

“Have you met her? I mean that sounds like it would be an amazing experience to meet the queen herself.” I say, a little fascinated. I’ve always wanted to make acquaintance with her majesty. And maybe marry Prince William or Prince Harry, but that’s another tale for another time.

Nodding, he says, “Yes I have. Twice actually. My job requires me to travel quite a bit and I did some work for her a while back. She insisted she be kept up to date on her new security system so I had the privilege to meet her in person. We had actually spent a great deal of time talking.” I stand there listening to him in awe. Somebody who has met her majesty must be pretty important, right? Right. I stepped away from the post cards and noticed some African tribal statues, some South American pottery and the souvenirs escalated from there. Which was fitting in a way considering the rest of his apartment was modern and up to date. No color splashed on the walls, it was plain. But what did catch my eye were the multiple posters around his walls from different T.V shows and movies. Doctor Who, The Avengers, The Walking Dead all stared back at me. “I love the Avengers.” I say, pointing to the one poster. Finn’s face lights up when I point to the middle poster.

“Me too, who’s your favorite?” He asks. “If you say Thor, I might have to kick you out.” He jokes. Or I hope he’s joking. Shaking my head, I keep it turned down. “Umm, guilty.” I say and he places his hand over his heart like he’s wounded. “Ugh, seriously? Everybody seems to like Thor. My favorite is Captain America.”

“Well, everybody likes Captain America.” I say, smiling. “He’s Captain America. You can’t not like him. He would be my second favorite.”

“Ugh, of course. Go for the super-hot and muscular one.” He says and I shake my head. “Well, duh.” I say with a smile. He chuckles and I settle down on the couch. Something very familiar catches my attention from the book shelf under the Avengers poster. “No, way. Oh my god! You read Fifty Shades of Grey?!” I run over and grab the book off the shelf and notice it’s filled with other books of similar variety. “That is my favorite series ever! What’s your favorite part?” I ask quickly without catching myself. Shit there’s the word vomit. As he walks over to me, I place the book back on the shelf clearly embarrassed. “No need to be shy all of a sudden Jayde. What would you like me to say? All the whips and ties are exciting and all, but I’m not into that stuff. A friend at work recommended the series to me and I took a stab in the dark and read them. Turned out they were really good.”

“Yes, I love them so much! And I see here that you also have Sylvia Day’s Crossfire series here as well. Please tell me you’ve read those too?”

He laughs. “No I haven’t gotten around to reading those yet, but I will I promise.” The fact that he reads is a very sexy quality in a man. Not a lot of guys would read this “lady porn” as it’s been called. I don’t think it should be called that but to each their own.

A soft giggle escapes my lips when my eyes catch something else and I pull the book out. The familiar cover sends a warmth through my body. “Twilight? A total turn around isn’t it?” Finn smiles, and rubs the back of his neck embarrassed. “An ex-girlfriend bought them for me, and insisted I read them. Turns out they were really good. Don’t judge me but I went out and bought the DVD’s when they came out.”

My jaw dropped open and he flushed crimson “Don’t look at me like that. It’s not a bad thing is it?” He asks. I place the book back on the shelf and shake my head. “Nope, not a bad thing at all.” I lie. It was such a bad thing. “Hahaha, okay. Well I’m going to go change out of my work clothes and get into more comfortable ones. He stops mid stride as he’s walking towards what I assume is his bedroom. “The WiFi password is umm…‘captainfinn’ in all lowercase.” If I wasn’t listening, I almost wouldn’t hear him but I did and I couldn’t help but smile. “Captain Finn huh? That’s cute.” Smiling sheepishly, he turns around and bolts into his bedroom without another word. He doesn’t shut his bedroom door completely and I can hear him rustling around in there while I connect my laptop. “So what is it do you do anyway, Finn?” I ask. My laptop quickly connects to the internet and I hurry to open up my email to check.

Hope bubbled inside me when I remember that I had been waiting on another email from…him. Yes, him. The one who has been sending me those beautiful and enchanting words through electronic mail for the past few days.

“Oh, I’m an IT specialist.” He yells from inside his bedroom door. I nod and make quick work of scanning my emails, ignoring the ones that I should be focusing on and instead focusing on the one email I’ve been waiting for the past hour or so. Junk, junk, from Gwen, one from Brooke, chain letter, local balls, etc. But no new email from…him. From Angel. Fallen Angel. That name has been permanently engraved in my mind since his first one came into my inbox. The chances that I’d hear from him ever again were slim to none anyways.

Angel. My angel. The name alone sends shivers up and down my spine, settling into my core. I could certainly imagine myself screaming out that name in ecstasy as he ride
s me like…damn, there go my thoughts again. Maybe if I closed my eyes and imagined he was a creeper, then that would make the throbbing between my legs stop. Thinking. Thinking. Thinking. Nope, not working. That never really helps anyway. Something about Angel is so familiar, I have the strangest feeling I’ve met him before but I know I haven’t.

Finn walks back out of his bedroom and looks at me, and lord help me. If he was gorgeous before, he was drop dead gorgeous now. I mean, it’s like I’m seriously dead from how hot he looks. The plaid work shirt is replaced with a black and really tight Doctor Who t-shirt with the Tardis adorned on the front. The black rimmed glasses are replaced with contacts and it isn’t until now that I really noticed how beautiful his chocolate brown eyes are. Damn, I can get lost in them. “Umm, sorry I wasn’t…I mean I didn’t mean to.” I say and he chuckles.

“Yes you were. Besides, I too was enjoying the beautiful sight before me so no need to apologize. It’s not against the law to check somebody out, is it?” He says, sending me a wink. Yes, yes it is because I just had sex on the floor of my apartment with somebody I could very much love and I’m over here flirting with you. That’s a straight ticket to hell if you ask me. But Finn doesn’t need to know that little detail.

“If it is, we can call the cops and they can come and take both of us away.” I joke. If that was against the law, I should have been thrown away years ago. “Haha you got me there.” He walked over to where I was nestled on the couch and sat down, but sat a little closer than he probably should have. The scent of his cologne hit me and I inhaled but it didn’t have the same effect like when I smelled Zac’s cologne. Finn leaned in a little close and whispered softly and seductively.
