Breaking Everly

“You look radiant.”
“I feel like a whale,” I joke.
He bends down to kiss me, his hand running over my stomach. “Well, then you look like a radiant whale.”
I slap his arm. “Watch it, Knight,”
“What? You said near as much.”
“Doesn’t mean you had to agree and add some. Just because I’m impregnated doesn’t mean I can’t kick your arse.”
“Not in front of the kid.” He grins, coming back to claim my mouth again just before we are interrupted by a little child clearing her throat.
Looking over at Robin, we both burst out laughing.
She’s standing with her arms folded and her little foot tapping the ground. “Daddy, you're meant to be counting not kissing Mummy.”
“Sorry, sweetheart.”
“I believe you've just been told by a four-year-old.” I smile. I love the relationship Adam has with her. The two of them are inseparable, and it’s made me fall in love with him even harder than I already had.
“Takes after her mother.”
Before he goes, I grab his wrist and pull him back to kiss him. “Yes, but you love her mother.”
“I don’t just love her; I love her more.”
“And she loves you forever,” Robin says with sass. “Okay, okay, we get it. Can we play now?”
“Right, that’s it,” Adam shouts, running after her. She screams in excitement when he picks her up and throws her over his shoulder, spinning her around in circles.
I don’t know where our daughter gets her personality from, but little things she does, remind me of my dad because I often catch her doing things she shouldn’t before she blames them on her teddy bears or Bailey. She’s just this crazy little creature that brightens up everyone’s day, and everyone who is connected to Adam and me loves the bones of her.
After things had settled down and we were reassured that Jamie was no longer a threat to any of us, life slowly started to pan out the way we’d hoped. It’s been tough, there's no denying that because his reappearance unsettled me to the point where I’d wanted to leave Keswick for good and never return, despite the fact my heart is here. But with the support of those close and throwing myself back into work, I got through it. My paintings are going strong and selling well, like always, and Adam is finally back doing his photography. It has taken him a while to get into the swing of things after because not only was he anxious about leaving me, he had to get used to the fact the head injury has left him with blurred vision in one eye. Now, when he’s not wearing his contacts, he looks sexier than ever in his black-framed glasses. Wanting to connect our love more than ever, Adam proposed a couple weeks after returning home from hospital. The words he’d said and the love he’d showed in that moment had me in tears but what made them fall harder and my heart burst with happiness was when he’d opened the little box and I saw my grandmothers ring. We got married the following year, right here in this very spot. Derwentwater Lake is a huge part of our hearts, so there had been no question about it. With fairy lights amongst the trees, and a beautiful sunset, we exchanged our vows and danced under the night sky with smiles on our faces and tears in our eyes. It was intimate and romantic with just the small gathering of our family and friends.
My mum still remains just as amazing as she always has been and loves to spend her spare time with her granddaughter, baking cakes and decorating cookies. Abigail has met the new love of her life, Tom, who just happens to be Bailey’s vet. Mac is just the same crazy guy who loves to tell Robin fairy-tale stories. And Anita is still the lovable airhead, who moved to Keswick last winter because she couldn’t bare not seeing us as much as she wanted.
So that just leaves my amazingly beautiful husband and long-term soulmate whose heart has never stopped beating for me, even when our worlds had been torn apart. Every day, I fall more and more in love with him, and he never fails to keep me safe as he promised. I’m so lucky to have him and am grateful for every second I spend with him. He is the most incredible father, my best friend an unbelievable partner. When I was young, I had never understood the true meaning of love, and once, I’d questioned if it was all a myth. Then my fourteen-year-old self was knocked for six when I’d latched eyes on to Adam Knight. I’d known from the moment he made my breath catch that he was never going to leave my heart.
And he never will, because not only is our love inseparable, it’s eternal.
It’s sealed in the stars.
The End.
Dear Reader…
Thank you for taking the time to read Breaking Everly.
Writing this book wasn’t easy because of the topics that are brought to you within the pages, but it is also a story I felt needed to be told. For a long time, I’ve wanted to write Everly’s story and not only did I know it would be hard, raw and heartbreaking, I also knew I had to do it justice. Everly and Adam are two characters that consumed me from the very beginning and have had a huge impact on me as a person. I cried with them, I cried for them. I laughed with them and then I cried for myself. This book is by far the hardest book I have ever written and because of this it has become one of my favourites of mine to date. I will hold their story in my heart forever and when I look at the stars, I will think of them always. Thank you for being part of this beautiful broken journey that brought to Breaking Everly.
KLJ.

About the Author
I’ve lived in South West England my entire life just on the edge of Dartmoor where the moorland goes on for days. It's beautiful, breath-taking and occasionally rather wet.
I probably swear way more than I should. My mum makes the best cupcakes in history, and I go weak at the knees for a man with a five o'clock shadow.
