Judgment for Jude: Wolves of Solara IIII
Page 11
“How long have I been out?”
“Just a day. Not too long. Jude I... I can’t thank you enough for what you did.”
“Then tell me why? Why did you leave?” He looked back at me, the sadness on his face replacing the hate and disdain. It was enough to break my heart, knowing I’d betrayed him, running away to Leon like that.
“Jude, I’m so sorry. Jason did a good thing calling the cops. They arrested all of them. They’re back in jail.”
“And Leon?”
“He’s dead.”
“Tell me why! Why did you run from me?! Ugh...” He winced, lifting up the blankets to inspect his casted leg.
Me? Didn’t he mean from his pack?
“He had Xander. I had to go to him to get my son.”
“And you didn’t ask any of us for help? What the hell were you thinking?”
“You aren’t my pack. I didn’t want to assume that any of you would help or put you in any more danger. It was best for me to get out of your hair before Leon did something dangerous.”
“You’re a liar.”
I blinked. “What? Jude, I swear!”
“No. You are a part of my pack. Do you understand me?” He said, smiling suddenly. I tried to push my tears away at his words as I ran to his side, still clinging tightly onto my child. His arms wrapped around me tightly, careful of Xander as he pulled me against him. “You’re mine. And I’d do anything for you. I don’t care how long I’ve known you. I almost died for you, you idiot.”
“You nearly did. I wouldn’t have been able to live with myself if you were killed on my behalf.”
“And I wouldn’t have been able to go on without you—without knowing where you went, why you left me. Swear you’ll stay here. By my side.”
It wasn’t my tears I felt, but Jude’s. They rolled from his eyes, landing onto my cheek as he rested his head atop mine, still holding me against him.
“I swear it. I won’t ever leave you again. Please, forgive me.”
“Of course I will. Now,” he sniffled, pulling away and giving a light hearted chuckle, trying to wipe away the tears, “Let’s go find Silver so we can welcome our new pack mates—Silver's pup, you, Xander—all three of you, to the group. And let’s forget about the Grey Brotherhood. Forever.”
He placed a kiss onto my lips, and despite the taste of iron from the blood still within his mouth, I welcomed it, returning his kiss as he placed a hand behind my head, deepening it further.
For once, in a long time, I could remember what it felt like to be loved. And to be part of a pack that actually cared about me. As we parted lips, I stared into his eyes, nodding my head.
“Forever.”
