Chapter One
“I still hate you.”
“I don’t care.”
“This means nothing.”
“Shut the fuck up.” Reese Daniels pressed Julia Kendall up against the nearest wall. No matter how many times he’d fucked her over the past few weeks, he couldn’t get enough of her, and the truth was, he couldn’t stand her. She always had her head in a book, with that stick up her ass attitude that pissed him off.
They worked together in the same bar. She was a waitress, and he the bartender. From the gossip and general talk, he knew she was taking night classes to finish up her degree in English Lit, or something like that.
He didn’t really care. Most of the time he saw her, her nose was always stuck in a book. She had a pencil constantly pushed into her hair or behind her ear.
Every single part of her always seemed so put together, and he had only seen her get dirty and messed up when he started to play. Damn it did he love to play with her. Her body was always so fucking responsive that she made him constantly ache for more. No matter how many times he fucked her, he wanted her again.
She’d always leave, or he’d walk out of her place, and neither of them would try to fight it. At first, he didn’t even care when she left after he’d dispensed with the condom. When they were at work together, no one was any the wiser.
Now though, he was a little pissed, and he wanted to fuck her into oblivion just so he had at least once to feel her in his arms.
“I hate it when you tell me to shut up. It annoys me.”
He pressed his hand between her thighs, and she cried out. Those were the kinds of sounds he relished her making, and he fucking loved it. Unbuttoning her jeans, he slid his hand inside, and found what he enjoyed about her. Every time he touched her, she was wet and always desperate for his touch. He’d never had a woman so responsive to him.
Whenever he was around her, he was always hard as rock. The nights at work were now torture as he knew what her body felt like pressed against him, how her ass nestled against his cock as he rode her pussy, the tight feel of her cunt wrapped around him.
In recent weeks, however, he didn’t like the overriding, possessive need to hurt every single man that thought that they could touch her. Julia didn’t belong to anyone else but him. Her moans had been of his name, no one else’s.
She never gave any of the men she served the time of day, and there had been a few occasions she’d stopped someone from touching her by grabbing their wrist. There was nothing worse than wanting to smash a bottle in someone’s face for that.
Reese had never considered hurting anyone before for touching his woman. He’d never owned a possessive cell in his body, and yet with Julia, watching her talk to men made him jealous. Especially the men that made her laugh. He rarely made her laugh.
In fact, he spent more time making her angry with his wise-ass comments.
“Shut up and I’ll lick your pussy so good,” he said, nibbling on her neck. With her pressed up against the wall, and his body crowding her, she couldn’t get away, and that was exactly how he liked it. “You’re so fuckable, baby. You want my dick inside you?”
“Yes.”
“Beg me for it.”
“Please, Reese, fuck me so good.”
He spun her around, trailing kisses down her neck at the same time as tearing her clothes off. Once he had her naked, he knelt before her, and stared at her beautifully waxed pussy. It had been a shock discovering that she was bare, but he didn’t mind. He liked there being nothing in his way of tasting her.
Julia spread her thighs, and he groaned at the sight of her pretty pussy. Unable to resist, he licked between her slit, circling the swollen clit. Sliding his hands up her thighs, he cupped her pussy and pressed two fingers inside her heat. She was so wet and tight. He’d never known a woman to be so tight before, and she hadn’t been a virgin either.
“Please, Reese.”
He loved it when she begged him. As far as he was concerned it was the best sound in the world, and he couldn’t get enough of it.
“We need to move this to the bed,” she said, gripping his hair.
“Nope. I want you to come right here, on my tongue.”
She whimpered, and he added a third finger, stretching her cunt, watching her take him. Sucking her clit into his mouth, he felt the tremors of her orgasm begin to shake her. The sounds of her pants filled the air, and his cock threatened to burst out of his pants he was so hard, but he didn’t cave.
He waited, stroking his tongue back and forth as she finally erupted. Her orgasm coated his fingers, and still he licked her clit until she begged him to stop.
Reese wasn’t done there.
Pushing his jeans down to his knees, he worked on the condom that he’d gotten out of his pocket, and slid it over his dick. Within seconds he had her legs wrapped around his waist as he filled her.
The first thrust was always the hardest as she was incredibly tight, and it took her a few seconds to get accustomed to the size of him. He didn’t mind though. Every ripple and clench around his shaft felt like pure heaven to him.
He loved her responses, and looking in her eyes as she grew accustomed to him. The pain left her eyes, and what was left was this woman so desperate to be fucked it was like a visual drug of the best kind.
Her gaze stayed on him, and the moment he saw that need return, he began to withdraw. The only downfall was that he’d not fucked her without a condom. This was just another reason that freaked him out. He’d never been with any woman without a condom. Yet here he was, wanting to go bare with Julia.
****
Julia cried out as Reese thrust inside her once more and she felt the kick of his cock as he filled the condom. His growl got muffled against her neck.
She closed her eyes and breathed in deep.
Every single time she ended up with Reese deep inside her she always promised herself that it wouldn’t happen again.
Sometimes she’d go a day or a night, and then it was like she craved him and he could read her. She didn’t like it.
“Do you want a drink?” Reese asked.
“Coffee would be good.”
He pulled out of her, and she watched as he moved through to his kitchen. Reese had a bigger place than she did, but he was also in his mid-thirties, ten years ahead of her. He was the kind of guy most people liked. Tall, tough, the life and soul of the party scene. Women flocked to him, with his sexy blue eyes that just called for you to get naked. His blond hair always looked unkempt but again in that “just had sex” way. He wasn’t always having sex though.
Following him into the kitchen, she watched as he dispensed with the condom, using some kitchen towel to clean his cock and putting the towel in the trash. He washed his hands and began to work the kettle.
Neither of them spoke, and she simply watched him.
This was … compl
icated.
They’d been working at the same bar now for nearly two years. For the first year, they rarely spoke other than a few passing greetings. He worked behind the bar, and she waitressed. When she wasn’t working, she was studying like crazy with her night classes in the hope of finishing up her English degree, and maybe going into teaching or something else. If there was ever any time left, she wrote.
She liked to write and once had big dreams of being this amazing author. One hundred rejections later, and now she considered it as more of a hobby.
For a long time, she didn’t think Reese liked her. He probably still didn’t. The bar she worked at was particularly reputable, and was known for drawing in crowds for the fresh, modern feel to it. People could also be safe there, not worrying about someone spiking their drink. The owner, James, paid a great deal for security to give men and women the comfort they deserved while out for a dance and drinks.
She and Reese often argued about certain … points. Women were known for throwing themselves at him, and he just shot them down. She couldn’t recall ever actually seeing him with a woman, but she’d heard the rumors. He was a love them and leave them kind of guy. From that first day they’d never really … gotten on well.
They hated each other, and yet, staring at him now, she didn’t know why.
He wasn’t mean to her, nor did he demand anything other than sex. When he left after sex she was relieved, and she would always leave as well.
“Coffee is new,” she said.
“Well, we didn’t exactly last all night like sometimes.” He looked at her and gave her a wink.
She couldn’t help but chuckle.
“You can take a seat. My chairs are sanitary.”
Julia glared at him. “Why do you do that?” she asked, stepping into the room. She grabbed a towel, placed it on the chair, and took a seat. As embarrassing as it was, she didn’t want to leak on his chair.
Whenever she was with him, Reese always made her extremely wet, and it was a little uncomfortable.
She looked up at him, and his jaw did that clenching thing as if he was gritting his teeth, and she didn’t like that.
“My chairs are clean, you know. I clean everything. I’m not some dirty bastard that doesn’t know how to lift a cloth.”
He wasn’t mean or offensive, and she frowned. “Seriously. You think I’ve got an issue with sitting down because of cleanliness?”
“Isn’t that what you’re doing?”
“I’m completely naked, Reese. Might I also add, seeing as you’ve forgotten, I was particularly wet. I don’t want to make a mess of your chair, and right now, ugh, you’re so infuriating.”
She got up off the seat and rushed back to the hall. This was why sex with them was never supposed to happen. They always ended up arguing over stupid shit that didn’t matter, and she hated that.
Grabbing her jeans, she slid them on, not even caring about her panties. She’d lost so many pairs since her fuck sessions with Reese there was no point.
“Wait, what the fuck are you doing?” Reese asked.
“I’m leaving.” She picked up her shirt and jerked out of his touch. “I was being nice and polite. Why do all of my actions with you have to mean something other than what they are? I’ve never done a single thing to you to make you think that I don’t like sitting in your chairs or being in your company, and this is why I hate you.” She jerked her shirt on and opened the door.
“Julia, come back. It’s cold, and you need—”
“What I need is to be left alone.”
She shoved her hands into her pockets and left his home, making her way back to hers. The walk to her own home wasn’t too far, and she’d done it several times. The fact they didn’t live too far apart was another reason she didn’t mind leaving him alone.
Her heart was racing, and she felt close to tears, but she wouldn’t let them fall. This was only ever supposed to be sex, and she refused to let herself fall for him.
It was just sex, and most of the time, if he didn’t have his dick inside her, he seemed to hate her.
Once she was back in her own apartment … she still didn’t feel right. One of the things she hid from Reese was that sometimes she didn’t want to leave his home once the sex was done. Just once, she’d love to talk with him without it being an argument.
Chapter Two
“Why are you in a shitty mood?” Peter asked.
Reese looked away from where Julia sat at one of the tables, her head once again in a book. She’d nearly finished the Coke she ordered. Her shift didn’t start for another hour, and at the moment everything was quiet.
“I’m fine.” That was a complete and total lie. He was pissed. Not at anyone but himself. When he’d watched her place the towel on his chair, he’d thought that she didn’t like to sit on his stuff. He’d gotten pissed. Of course, he didn’t follow her when she stormed out of his apartment. Yep, another lie. He’d pulled on his clothes and kept pace a distance away from her to make sure she made it to her apartment safely.
He’d been doing it for some time now. Whenever she thought he was asleep he’d wait for her to head toward his door. He’d quickly pull on some clothes and follow her, as he didn’t want her getting hurt.
Just because they were both used to these parts didn’t exactly make it safe.
“You don’t look fine. You look pissed about something.”
He stared at his friend. “What do you think of Julia?”
Peter glanced over at her. “She’s a nice girl, why?”
“You don’t think she’s too … bookish?”
“Dude, do you even know anything about her other than that she keeps on studying?”
Reese shook his head. “Nope.”
“You really need to get your head out of your ass. I asked her over a year ago, admittedly a little drunk, if she was going to save the world with all of her reading and studying.”
“And?”
“She failed.”
“What?”
“The classes she’s taken, she’s failed half of them, and she’s still trying.”
Reese glanced over at her, and with that little bit of information, he was able to read her better. She kept on frowning, and he saw that she kept on rubbing her forehead as if she couldn’t understand what was in front of her.
“Is there something going on between the two of you?”
“Nope. Just curious as to why she’s always got her head in a book. Figured she thought she was better than all of us.”
Peter burst out laughing. “You do realize she’s always getting stuck in and getting her hands dirty, right?”
“What do you mean?”
“I don’t even work here, and I’ve heard nothing but polite shit about her. She’s always willing to take another’s shift. She helps to clean the place up when it’s not necessary. Trudy was telling me that she even babysat for her when she needed to take another of her kids to the doctors.”
“I had no idea.”
“You’ve really read her wrong if you think that she thinks she’s too good for us.” Peter kept on chuckling. “I’ve got to take a leak.”
Reese ignored his friend, his gaze drifting back to Julia, and he felt like a total asshole. Seeing her Coke was done, he grabbed another bottle, pulled off the cap, and poured it into a glass, adding a straw.
He checked to make sure Lori was okay to work the bar, and then headed toward Julia. A couple of women tried to stop him, but he didn’t give them the time of day. Placing the glass on the table, he picked up her empty one. “It looked like you could use a refill.”
Julia jerked back, a little startled. “I’m so sorry.”
“Is it a good book?” he asked, giving a little chuckle. He lowered himself down into the seat opposite her.
“It’s supposed to be. I don’t know. It’s some kind of doomed romance, I think.” She shrugged.
He watched as she sat up, lifting her arms above her head and giving a stretch. Her no
tebook was spread open, and he saw all the scribbles and writing, along with stuff crossed out. He’d never taken the time to wander over to her when she was studying at the bar.
“So, what do you want to be?”
“Well, I had one day hoped to be an author, but there’s no way in hell that’s ever happening.” She placed a hand against her mouth, and he saw her yawn. “Then of course I was thinking of being a teacher, but I doubt that’s ever going to happen.”
“You’ll get there,” he said.
Seeing how she was struggling, he felt like the world’s biggest ass.
“Thanks.” She didn’t sound so convinced. “This is sweet.” She lifted the glass and took a sip. “And it’s cold. Lovely, thank you.”
“I’m sorry,” he said, blurting out the apology.
“For what?”
“For my outburst yesterday.”
“It’s already forgotten. You don’t need to worry about it.” She pushed some of her hair off her face. “We’re just having fun, remember?”
“Yeah, well, it’s not the first time that I’ve fucked up either.”
She giggled. “Don’t worry. It’s men’s prerogative to screw up. I didn’t help matters either. I just … did that.”
“Come on, I should have assumed that was what you’re doing. It’s me.” He patted his chest. “And I know how good I am.”
Her blush was the sweetest thing. “Okay. This is kind of scary. Are we having a conversation?”
“No. We’re not, and we’re not even being nice to each other.” He stood up. “Get back to studying, woman, and stop slacking off.” He gave her a wink.
“Thank you, Reese, really.”
She reached out, grabbing his hand. He didn’t pull away. Even though they were where they both worked, he held onto her hand and gave it a squeeze.
