They sit quietly together, Tyler’s arm wrapped around her as they listen to the chatter inside the coffee shop.
She sighs deeply as she reaches up to grab his hand, entangling her fingers with his. She’s glad she called.
Chapter 16
She always imagined today would feel different.
A little girl dreams about her wedding day from the very first moment she realizes she’s going to have one.
All the colors have been picked exactly to her standard, white and baby blue. Her beautiful dress has been altered into an even more beautiful piece to make room for her growing baby boy. And she’s marrying the man of her dreams. Well, the man she wanted to marry for years, anyway….
Thomas was less than excited to find out about her pregnancy. Amber knew he would be. He’s got next to no time because of his work as it is, and now with a baby on the way before they’re even married? Well, that’s not exactly ideal.
He doesn’t know it may not be his. She was going to tell him as soon as he found out, but she just couldn’t.
Leah was right. Tyler was right. The entire future she has planned shouldn’t be in jeopardy because of one little mistake.
But Tyler….
She has met up with the ashy haired man a couple times over the last few months…
Amber closes her eyes as she rubs the palm of her hand over her white lace covered belly, thinking of all the tears and laughs they’ve shared and the way his ice blue eyes catch the sun. Maybe her baby will have ice blue eyes, too.
“Amber?” She hears. “You ready?”
Leah walks toward her, her eyes welling with tears. She grabs her hands, holding them in her as she leans in to give Amber a soft kiss on her cheek.
“You look beautiful, Amber.” She whispers. “You must be so happy.”
“No.” She whispers back, her breath shaking. “No, I’m not.”
She untangles herself from her friend’s embrace before sitting down on her petite makeup chair.
She shakes her head, wiping a tear from her smoky, lined eyes before looking deeply into her best friend’s brown pools.
“I’m not going to do this.” She whispers as she stands.
“Amber, where are you going? What do you mean?” Leah asks, her mouth agape as she watches the back of Amber’s white train slink out the door.
Chapter 17
She pulls up in front of the lounge she met him in all those months ago. She knows he meets a lot of his clients here and she needs to see him.
Amber steps out of her car, hiking up her puffy dress around her knees as she walks around her vehicle. Her white heels click against the pavement as she quickly makes her way toward the dark entrance.
She pushes herself inside, swinging the door open before stopping to stand in the entrance to quickly scan the patronage of the dusty bar.
He’s got to be here.
And he is. She catches the back of his ashy mop as he sits, perched atop a tall stool, accompanied by many other expensive looking men. Her breathing hitches as she watches him slowly rub the back of his neck.
“Tyler!” She yells to him, as all eyes turn toward the pregnant bride.
Tyler turns on the stool, his eyes shocked and wide as he sees her.
“Amber? Oh my God, why are you here?” He asks, getting off the stool and walking toward her. “You’re getting married today!”
“No, I’m not!” She sobs, letting her long lace skirt fall to the hardwood floor.
“Tyler,” She starts, reaching down to grabs his strong, rough hand. “There’s just no way I can go through with it. There’s no one else I can see myself with… but you.”
He leans in, resting his palm against her cheek before placing his lips against hers and kissing her softly. He rests his forehead against hers as he pulls her close, not caring about the people staring around them or the business men he was just with.
“I thought I would never hear you say it.” He whispers. “I can’t wait to give you everything.
