Renny’s Mate

Rather than give him the satisfaction of seeing her relief, she stood up. “Where am I going?”

“You’re now working on the tenth floor. You’re to report to your new boss immediately. I’ll buzz up and let him know you’re on your way—and Riss, I’m sorry.” He held out his hand and she didn’t take it.

“You owe me lunch, then I’ll consider touching you again.” Lifting her chin, she left the office and got on the elevator. The shock had worn off, and now she was nervous. She felt like the new kid at school. Will had made sure she knew every head of the departments and their assistants. It didn’t matter. She was still taking on a new job. She wasn’t sure how this new boss would treat her or if he knew her capabilities.

Stepping off the elevator at the tenth floor, she was confronted by only one desk and no other cubicles. Confused, she headed to the office of the head of the department. She realized Will hadn’t told her who that was, and that scared her even more. Straightening to her full height, she knocked on the door and waited.

“Come in,” called a muffled voice.

She opened the door and stepped inside only to stop dead. Ren sat behind a desk looking over some folders. He looked up and grinned. “Hello, sweetheart. Good to see you here. Please have a seat.”

She didn’t move. “You’re my new boss?”

“Yes, and you work with me. We’ll be doing research and traveling extensively to scout out new opportunities. Please sit down—you look shaky. I’m getting worried.” He pushed back his chair and stood up.

“You’re worried? I thought I was fired.” She shut the door. It occurred to her that she hadn’t seen him in four days. A tug in her stomach reminded her of how lonely those nights had been. “Forget telling me about my job—I think you need to greet your mate properly.”

He gave her a dazzling smile that weakened her knees all over again. “I think we can do that. How about I take you out for a long, leisurely lunch and we reacquaint ourselves with each other?”

The wicked glint in his eyes told her everything she needed to know. Holding out her hand she said, “Let’s go.”

Ren couldn’t have been happier. He had his mate, and he was repairing his relationship with his family and helping out in the family business. Life was perfect, and he had that lovely island and beautiful woman to thank. Taking her hand, he guided her out of the office for a bit of afternoon delight and a little early dessert.
