“Juliette,” Renee said, popping her head into the room, “are you ready?”

  “Absolutely.”

With a smile to Ava, Juliette followed Renee out and down to the waiting car. For the last six months she’d been living with Noah in his bungalow, but last night she’d stayed in her old room at Renee’s guest house. She wanted to do it the traditional way. Not that there was anything traditional about their wedding really.

“Wow, you look fucking gorgeous,” Ryan said when she walked down the hallway earning him a solid whack across the head from his mother. Juliette laughed. Playfully smacking Ryan, she had learned, was a family pastime, one that even Noah’s sister, Emma, who was visiting for their wedding, also indulged in.

“What?” cried Ryan now, looking outraged, “I was just saying how great she looks. You know, Juliette, if Noah fucks up I am … ow!” This time it was Juliette who smacked him. There would be no more fuck ups from Noah. She was sure of it.

“Let’s go,” Renee said, shooting her youngest son a frown. “We don’t want Noah to think we aren’t coming.”

It was only when they arrived at the beach a few minutes later that Juliette felt the nerves start to somersault in her stomach. She was really doing this. They were really doing this, and she began to feel all hot and itchy. A million what ifs suddenly crammed themselves into her mind, and for a long moment she stood there, her bare feet sinking into the sand as she started down the shore to where Noah waited.

What if she got sick again?

  What if she died?

  What if Noah couldn’t cope?

What if she left him alone?

Would he be able to handle the grief?

What if he wanted children? The doctors had informed her that having children was no longer an option. Noah had sat with her when they explained and he’d held her hand and then held her afterwards as the reality of the situation washed over her. She’d never be able to give Noah a child, never to be able to create a miniature Noah. Would he be okay with that? Would he eventually need to find someone who could give him everything she couldn’t?

Noah, being Noah though, had assured her that he was okay with it all. And besides, there were other options available to them that they could explore in the future. Right now, right now he wanted Juliette, and right now, she wanted him.

  “Juliette?”

She glanced up to see Renee hovering at her side, a concerned expression locked on her features. “Everything okay?”

“Um…” She looked back down the beach just as Noah turned and saw her standing there. He was dressed in navy-blue pants and a crisp white shirt. His hair, which had grown longer, was neatly brushed back from his face, and his beard, which he’d also grown over the past few months, was trimmed. And his eyes… The moment his eyes lit on her any doubts any hesitation Juliette might have had were extinguished because in his eyes she saw everything she’d ever been looking for.

Someone who loved her. Cherished her. Adored her. Someone who would embrace everything that life had to offer. Someone who made her knees weak and her stomach do flip flops. Someone who had her back … always.

Without any more second thoughts she made her way down the beach to where Noah waited, a huge smile stretching across her face and her heart fuller than it had ever been before.

In the distance, out on the blue, blue water, she saw Merve lift his head from the ocean and give what looked to be a little nod.
