  Chapter One

  Charlotte

He has a slight gap between his two front teeth. It’s not off-putting; if anything, it makes him even sexier. It draws my attention to the dimples that deepen when he smiles at me.

His ocean-blue eyes sparkle against the sunlight as he gazes back into mine. Fuck, why is he so damn cute? This would be so much easier if the man looked like an ogre.

Our lips are inches away from each other. We are the only two remaining outside, the other guests have made their way to the reception, and probably on their second glass of champagne by now. His hands reach for my face as he tucks them under my chin. He has a coy grin on his face, a smile that tells me he's enjoying every second of watching me squirm under his touch. He knows he has a hold over me, even though I have only known him for all but an hour.

My heart beats faster and faster as the handsome stranger’s face closes in on mine.

This is not me — all of this. I don't sit gazing into strangers' eyes with filthy thoughts running through my mind. If you were to ask my friends, they would probably tell you I'm the most stuck-up out of us all.

  Fuck it.

Unable to hold myself back any longer, I grab him by the back of his head and pull him into me. My hands run through his wavy, black hair, and I'm stunned at how soft each strand feels through my fingers. Our lips smack together. It starts as a soft peck against my lips but quickly escalates when I part my lips and welcome him inside me. His silky tongue rolls against mine, and the sensation of his hands running against my skin fills me with insatiable goosebumps. My heart flutters, and with every second of him inside me, my knees grow weaker. This is so unlike me, kissing a stranger in public, but in this moment, I am not myself. All I focus on is how soft his lips feel against mine.

I pull back slowly. “Right, I think it’s time to go inside, like.” Shit. Whenever I’m nervous, my Irish heritage tends to reveal itself.

“The name’s Brody,” he growls, a deep base in his voice.

"Charlotte," I say, and he takes my hand in his as he lifts me to my feet.

I glance down at my hand in his and know I need to kill this, whatever this is, and fast. The kiss was amazing, filling me with an excitement I haven't felt in a while. But I don't have time for a man in my life right now.

With intertwined hands, we walk into the reception. The doors to the hallway are wide open, and Emily’s prying eyes lock on our connected hands. I yank my hand free. Emily leans over and whispers something into Victoria’s ears, which has her shifting her attention to me. Fuck, Emily, could you not shut your mouth? Victoria is the last person I wanted to see me.

"Listen, Brody. I need to be with my friends now, you know, before they start worrying about me."

  “Sure, see you soon.”

  “Cool.”

He gives me a naughty wink. “Much sooner than think, princess.”

  “Err… Yeah, okay.”

I drag my feet along the walk of shame as I head over to Victoria and Emily. Victoria does this weird thing, pumping her fist in the air and pressing her tongue against the insides of her mouth, that looks uncomfortably like a blowjob.

“Fuck off,” I mutter under my breath, glancing around to make sure no one saw her. I catch sight of my mom, who shifts her gaze from Victoria to me and then on the man walking towards his brother and groom, Dante. God, my mother saw Victoria’s stupid air-blowjob.

“Stop it, you bitch. My mother saw that.” I snap at Victoria.

“Oh, relax. You have the world’s coolest mom,” Emily chimes in.

Victoria pulls her chair up closer to mine. “I bet he has a huge cock. I bet he does!”

I spray out my sip of Coke onto the floor. “Seriously, what the hell is wrong with you, Vic? How would I know if he has a huge cock or not?”

Victoria gives off an annoyed grunt. “You didn’t feel it? What a waste.”

I wipe my mouth with the tablecloth. “I just met the man, and it was just a kiss. I’m not planning on sleeping with him.”

“Whatever. I just think it’s better to find out now. You don’t want to be saving yourself and hooking up with him a year later, only to find out he’s crap in bed.”

Emily is glued to her phone. God, I wish she would put that phone down once in a while. It’s not like she’s chatting to anyone. No, she’s on her phone making sure no one beats her God of War rankings.

Dante clinks a fork against his champagne glass, grabbing our attention. Sarah looks absolutely stunning in her wedding dress. With a natural glow on her face, I have never seen her happier in my life. I can’t help but wonder if I will ever get to experience the same happiness she’s feeling right now?

I scan the room for Dante’s handsome brother and notice him, sitting a few tables away—his eyes glued on me. How long has been staring at me?

Damnit, those luring blue eyes fill me with butterflies; it's unlike anything I have ever felt before, which is why I know, now more than ever, that I need to kill this.

I should just go up to him and thank him, or whatever, for the kiss and part ways.

  Simple, right?

  Brody

It cannot end like this. I need to get her to come home with me. I need to see where that kiss will lead us.

Fuck me. She's beautiful. I love how that dress molds around her body, wrapping around her every perfect curve. The sight of her alone drives a raging excitement inside my pants.

I can see she tries holding herself back, but she felt it. That was no ordinary kiss. God, from the way her tongue rolled against mine and the sweet moans that escaped into my mouth when we kissed… yeah, she felt it.

I need to know more about the beautiful Charlotte; I won’t stop until I do.

I run to Dante, tapping him on the shoulder. With everyone crowding around him, it’s been hard to get his attention. “Big brother, hold up.”

Dante turns his head. His eyes dance and laugh lines have developed over the last hour. “Thanks,” he says.

I raise my left eyebrow. “Huh?”

“Thanks. You’re here to congratulate me, right?”

“Oh. Yes, of course. Congrats, happy days. Anyway, do you know anything about the beauty standing in the yellow dress over there?” I say and point at Charlotte.

  She’s looking directly at us.

Dante jerks back. “That’s, Sarah’s friend, Charlotte.”

&n
bsp; “Yeah. Her. What can you tell me about her?”

“Stay far away from her. I met her once, and from our brief chat, she sounds like she could be a handful. Feisty one, that."

I glance back at Charlotte, sneaking her a naughty grin. “Tell me about it. Isn’t she just fucking beautiful?”

Charlotte and I hold eye contact as I bite seductively on my lower lip. It feels as if time had come to a complete standstill. I turn around and see Dante walking off, leaving me to stand by myself.

“Excuse me, excuse me,” I say, shifting past the crowd of people lining up for food as I make my way towards the beauty whose lips I tasted just moments ago.

“Thanks,” I say to the lady I just cut in front of.

I snake up behind her and thrust my hips into her. She jerks, almost messing the food from her plate at the sensation of my hardness pushing against her ass.

I lean down. “Thought I’d give you a preview of what’s to come later.”

She holds her gaze forward and speaks through gritted teeth. “Brody, what the fuck are you doing?”

“Sorry,” I laugh, “but I can’t help myself when I look at you.”

She lets out a sigh and takes a step forward. “This cannot continue.”

I lean down on her again, bringing my lips to her ear, my voice reducing to a whisper. “Wait until I get you home tonight, beautiful.”

She has steak, rosti, and vegetables covered in mushroom sauce on her plate. She turns to face me and flicks her golden blonde hair so that it slaps me in the face before turning to walk towards the table with the rest of her friends.

Shit. I could come in my pants right now at the sight of her beautiful, thick ass bouncing with every step she takes.

Charlotte sits next to a friend that wears a revealing dress that has half her cleavage on display. From the way she waves at me, I can tell they’re talking about me.

Her friend is cute, but I don’t have my eye on anyone else in the room, except for Charlotte.

“Young man,” I feel a tug on my arm. A lady, dressed in a yellow and orange robe with a bold floral print stands in front of me. She’s a short, stumpy lady and has her arms folded—probably pissed that I cut the line.

“I am Catherine Walsh,” she says in a deep Irish accent.

  “Um… That’s nice.”

  “Charlotte’s mother.”

“Oh… oh!” My face softens. “Well, I certainly see where she gets her good looks from.” My eyes roll down her dress again. Thank God, Charlotte didn’t get her fashion sense from her mother. She’s dressed like a modern-day gypsy.

“Now, you listen here, ye wee lil’ fucker. You break my daughter’s heart, and I’ll break your legs, you got it?”

I take a step back, swallowing hard. “Ma’am, I have no intentions of harming your daughter.”

“Yeah, that’s what her prick of a father said. Look at him now, irritating little shite…” She brushes past me and continues muttering a series of cuss words under her breath.

I also see where Charlotte gets her feistiness from.

By now, everyone has eaten, and people have started making their way to the dance floor as the DJ begins playing 90s dance music. Charlotte’s on her feet again, making her way to the bathroom. I run up, and stand in front of Charlotte, blocking her way.

“If you’re not coming home with me, then I’ll settle for your number, princess.”

Charlotte pauses and stares intently at me. God, the sweet vanilla scent of her perfume drives a raging throb inside my pants again. I’d do anything to bend over the beauty standing in front of me and make her come undone, right here. Except, I’d chase out every person in this room. No one gets to see her beautiful body, except for me.

“I’m no one’s princess,” she snaps. “Look, Brody, I think you’re handsome, but it was nothing more than a kiss. I know you’re looking for a one-night sta—”

I press her against the wall. Right now, I don’t give a shit who sees us. “No, beautiful. With you, I’m looking for something much more than a one-night stand.”

“Cute, but anyway. I don’t have time for a man. I need to focus all my energy into my career. So, perhaps in the future, okay?”

“I’ll wait. No number, until then?”

“No,” she says through a shrilled voice, before shying away.

“Fine by me. But, just so you know, once I set my eyes on something I want, I always get my way.

She gives me a final smile and pushes past me, making her way to the bathroom. I stand and stare, hoping she would turn to see me watching her walk off. She doesn’t.

She doesn’t have time for a man. She wants to focus on a career. Guess it’s up to me to show her she can have both.

Sweet Charlotte, I’m not giving up on you. No, sweet-cheeks, we’re just getting started.

  Chapter Two

  Charlotte

  Three months later

Who the hell is phoning me at this hour? The sun is barely out.

I lift the phone to my ear and try clearing my groggy voice. “Hello?”

“Hello, can I speak to Charlotte Walsh, please?”

  My attention perks. “Speaking.”

“Charlotte, you’re speaking to Debra. I’m phoning on behalf of Reputation. Is this a convenient time to talk?”

My eyes widen, and I sit up in my bed. "Yes!” I clear my throat. “I mean, yes, this is a good time to speak.”

"On behalf of Reputation, I would like to thank you for your application. You have been selected as the successful candidate for the P.R. intern position. I will send you an email with the offer. If you could please have a look at…”

I zone out, not hearing a word of what she says next. All I focus on is that I got the fucking job!

“Ahhh,” I shout out loud, cutting Debra off, “thank you, thank you so much. Yes, I’ll have a look at the mail and accept.”

"Um, okay. Perfect. Just a reminder, if you accept our offer, we would need you to come in tomorrow morning at 08:00."

For the longest time, I was worried I would have to remain in this house with the world’s craziest parents. Luckily for me, I didn’t have to wait long. This is the first job I have applied for, and they got back to me within a week. In fact, I didn't even approach them; they approached me. Who would have thought that creating that LinkedIn account would prove useful? Reputation is one of the country’s largest PR firms—an ideal place to make my mark in the corporate world.

I’ve never said anything before, and my friends haven’t mentioned it either, but being the poorest girl in the Curvy Girls Club, I've always felt the need to overcompensate with my bossiness. Victoria, in particular, has never been short of cash, coming from a wealthy family. As much as I would have liked to go on one of the many excursions the girls would go on, I would always pretend as though I was not interested, or that I had better shit to do.

But, now that I have my first job, the first whiff of freedom is fucking beautiful—I’ll be damned if I allow anything to stop me from climbing the corporate ladder.

All my friends have their own thing going on. Sarah has finally announced she’s pregnant—not much of a shocker there. Victoria, well, she's just being her crazy self, spending money on countless designer dresses, shacking up with every second guy, and working on her design label. Emily has always been a bit of a mystery, but I'm sure she's doing well.

Finally, I have my own thing—working my way up the corporate ladder, baby!

I stand outside Reputation's office building, marveling at the sight. With a glass finishing, even the building looks expensive. The money they're offering me is not much, but it's more than I expected. I'm fifteen minutes early, and my attention is drawn to my vibrating phone inside my pocket.

  “Yes, mom?”

  “Lovie, where are you?”

I hope she can sense the irritation in my sigh. “I told you, it’s my first day at work.”

There's a brief pause. "Patrick," my mother shouts, "
Charlotte has a job! Aye, that's wonderful. But why didn't you tell us about it?"

Oh, my God. “I tried telling you since yesterday, mom. But, you were too busy meditating, or whatever, to bother listening to me.”

“Anyway, love,” mom cuts me off, “I’m glad I have you on the phone. I’ve been meaning to ask. When does your friend plan on returning my Tupperware?”

"Let me speak to her," I hear my dad in the background.

“Wait, you arsehole,” mom barks, “Charlotte’s telling me about my Tupperware.”

“No, I’m not. Anyway, I’ll ask Victoria about your container later. But I have more important things to worry about right now, like my new job.”

Mammy grunts out loud. “Christ, I’m at my wits end with that Victoria. You know, I’ve always said you’re too good to be friends with that wean. Always been a bit of a chancer. Do her parents not have any Tupperware of their own? That’s why that family’s rich—always taking other people’s things. Aye, I don’t think she is the full shilling…”

“Oh, shut up, Catherine,” I hear my dad saying in the background.

“I can’t do this. I’ve got to go, mom. Bye.” I hang up when the receptionist smiles at me. I extend my hand forward. “Hi, I’m Charlotte.”

“Yes, of course. Mr. Black’s expecting you. Follow me.”

Debra leads me upstairs to the first floor, and the chaos of the corporate world greets me. Staff sitting in tiny cubicles type away furiously at their keyboards. There's a cup of coffee on every second table. Hell, I almost get run over by some young man rushing off somewhere with a batch of papers. It's madness, fast-paced, and everyone looks like they're rushing to complete some deadline. This place is like heaven.

“Charlotte,” a man with a refined British accent greets me.
