Her body jerked as those three words jolted through her like an electrical current.

Her mind rebelled even as her heart nearly leaped out of her chest to throw itself at him. He couldn’t love her. He couldn’t because she wanted him to—so damn much. She wasn’t aware of shaking her head until he nodded.

“Yes, I do. I love you, Devon.” He lifted the hand not holding hers captive and stroked his fingers down her cheek. Then he reached into his pants pocket and withdrew a small gold key. He extended it toward her.

“What is this?” She accepted it but didn’t remove her gaze from his.

“It’s the key to a safety-deposit box containing all the information on my mother that you took from your father’s safe. I’m handing it back to you. There’s no one else I trust more to keep it safe. To protect not just me, but my family. You’re not your father, Devon, and I’ll never look at you and see him. I only see the woman I trust and love beyond reason or explanation.”

Her fingers curled around the key, pressing it to her heart. The heart that wholly belonged to him.

“I love you,” she whispered. “I love you so much.”

She removed her hand from his chest to throw both her arms around him and hold on. And she would never let go. She was his, and he was all hers.

“Sweetheart.” He cupped her chin and tilted her head back, brushing his lips over her temple, her cheek, her nose and finally, her mouth. “Say it again.”

“I love you. I love you. I love you,” she chanted, then laughing, threw her head back and shouted to the sky, “I love you.”

Chuckling, he buried his face against her throat, his words muffled, but she didn’t need to hear him to know he whispered a vow of love. Of forever.

“One thing,” she said. Cain lifted his head, cradling her face in both of his palms.

  “Anything.”

“Next time you come groveling—because given who we are, I’m pretty sure there will be a next time—I want the marching band.”

His bark of laughter echoed in the air, and hers joined in. She reveled in that sound of joy, savored it, knowing it was just the first of many for them.

“Come home with me,” he murmured. “Come make new memories with me and exorcise the old ones.”

“Yes,” she replied without hesitation, placing a soft, tender kiss to his lips. She stared into his wolf eyes and basked under the love gleaming there for her. “New memories. And tomorrow—” she held up the key “—we have a fire to build.”

“I think that will be our first real date,” he teased, sweeping his thumb over her bottom lip. “I can’t wait.”

And as he lowered his head and took her mouth again, she couldn’t wait either.

  For tonight.

  For the date.

  For their forever.
