  AND...

Joanna Pearson is living with her parents full-time. They went to family counseling and are all doing well. Joanna has a boyfriend who thinks she hung the moon. Her grades continue to be enviable. And she sends email messages to both McKenna and Parker on a regular basis. She’ll be visiting colleges in a year and she plans to check out the University of Chicago. She’s considering Economics as a major.

Sherry Granger eventually married 18-wheeler driver Mike. He retired from the road to do construction. Together, they built an addition on to the diner. Her daughter moved to Oklahoma and helps with baking and selling the finished product. The specials of the day always sell out. Sherry took Parker’s advice and added a billboard to the highway. It simply reads, Exit Here for Granger’s Restaurant, Home Cooked Food at its Best. The dinner hour is always filled to capacity.

And an excited Zeke called McKenna to say thank-you for the rebuilt 1939 engine that arrived shortly after she and Parker reached California. Two months later he’d completed the car’s chassis, installed the seats, dashboard lights and fenders. Four months later the car was road ready. He wants McKenna and Parker to return to the small town for a victory ride.
