“Horses?” she asked, tilting her head. “I ordered you a pony.”
Rory laughed. “I’ll take a donkey at this point. I just want something to ride on.”
For some reason, Rhett popped into her mind. “Me too.”
They walked back towards the trailers talking and laughing as they went. Joan really liked Rory. It was impossible not too. He was so positive and bubbly that he could even make Gunner smile once in a while.
“What do we have here?” Joan said, grinning as a curvy blonde raced out of Cole’s trailer. She lowered her head to the ground, covering her face with her messy hair as she did the walk of shame back to her car.
“She’s a screamer,” Rory said, watching her get into the car and race away. “She kept me up all night.”
“She kept me up all night too,” Cole said, stepping out of his trailer. “And this morning.”
He stretched out, shirtless with a cocky look on his face as he strutted over.
“Did you invite her to stay for lunch?” Joan asked, looking at the cloud of dust settle where she sped off.
Cole scratched his unthoughtful head. “Didn’t think to.”
Joan rolled her eyes. “What a surprise.”
“I would have invited her for lunch,” Rory said.
Cole’s eyes narrowed as they fell on him. “Why are you dressed up like a cowboy? Is that a skipping rope?”
“I am a cowboy,” Rory said.
Cole laughed as he ran his hand over his abs. “A wolfboy maybe. A cowboy? No.”
Rory shook his head. “We live in Montana. I live on a ranch. That’s the definition of a cowboy right there.”
“Except you’re missing some cattle,” Ashton said. “And a horse.”
Rory turned to Joan and cringed. “When are we getting the cattle?”
Joan walked over to where Ashton was still lounging on the plastic patio chair. She kicked out the back leg, breaking it and sending him flying backward.
Cole and Rory roared with laughter as he crashed into the ground.
“We don’t have money,” she said with her hands on her hips. “And you guys just fuck around all day. How the hell are we supposed to afford any of that?”
Cole shrugged. “You’re the alpha. You figure it out.”
Joan huffed out a breath. These guys were driving her crazy.
Rhett and Gunner both returned for lunch and they all ate as a crew. “Want to ride with me for the rest of my shift?” Rhett asked her.
She smiled as she played footsie with him under the picnic table. “Definitely.”
“How was the salon?” Cole asked Gunner, laughing at him.
“Fine,” Gunner said with a serious face. “I don’t know why you guys always make fun of me. Fingernails are supposed to be manicured and need weekly maintenance. What am I, a barbarian?”
“I don’t know. Do barbarians use nail polish?” Joan asked, making everybody laugh.
“You guys just don’t understand,” Gunner said, shaking his head.
“You’re right,” Rory said. “We don’t.”
Joan ate quickly so that she could leave with Rhett. She loved spending the days driving around with him in his police cruiser, watching him handle any shifters who got out of line.
She smiled as she thought back to the first time that they had met in the restaurant. She had been just about to lose control of her bear when he came waltzing into her life. Now, when she looked back at that time, it felt like a different person than who she was now. Her dominant bear was in heaven at the head of a new crew and she was ecstatic with her new mate, Rhett.
She and her bear were finally acting as one, sharing their body peacefully. Joan could breathe easier now and she wasn’t in constant fear of her bear losing it and ripping out of her skin.
And it was all because of Rhett.
“Did you bring your handcuffs?” she asked when they were in the car, driving down a long secluded road.
Rhett grinned at her, his dark eyes full of hunger that only she could satisfy.
Joan slipped an index finger into her mouth and sucked on the tip as she gave him her fuck me eyes. “Because I’ve been a very bad girl, officer. I need to get punished.”
He groaned as he pulled the car over, the tent in his pants rising as he turned to her. “It’s time to teach you a lesson,” he said in a raspy voice. “It’s time to show you who’s really in charge around here.”
Joan gulped as he unbuckled his seatbelt.
“Out of the car,” he said with a grin. “And put your hands on the hood.”
Joan bit her lip to hide her smile. She loved role playing with the sexy shifter cop. They even had sex in the Sheriff’s office a couple of times after hours. Joan still got wet every time she remembered how he bent her over his desk and took her.
“Officer,” she said, playing along in her sweet innocent voice. “Are you going to go easy on me?”
Rhett narrowed his dark eyes on her and shook his head.
“You’re going to go hard on me?”
He nodded. “Very hard.”
Joan grinned. Just how she liked it.
She jumped out of the car and ran to the hood, placing her palms on the hot metal just like he had ordered her to do.
She grinned as he walked out and approached her. Fuck, she loved him. He truly was everything to her. He gave her everything; love, security, devotion, adoration, friendship.
He grinned as he walked over, taking out his handcuffs and slapping them on her wrists.
And of course, a little bit of fun.
