Catch You if I Can

“What is it with your knees?”
Before she could answer him, Kenny said from behind, “Err, hi, man. Looking good.”
Alex’s gaze turned cold as his arm tightened around her waist. He actually drew her close, preventing Ianne from looking at Kenny as he said in a chillingly polite voice, “Kenny.”
Since Alex Rockford looked like he was about to commit murder, Kenny said quickly, earnestly, “I don’t like Ianne anymore.” He was no lightweight, but Alex Rockford was in an entirely different league. He heard how Texans like Alex could wrestle bulls into ground or something and Kenny had no wish to be Alex’s next victim.
The grimness on Alex Rockford’s face lessened but he still remained unsmiling. “What do you want?”
“I was just going to, err, thank Ianne for getting Zelda – your ex – to consider dating me?”
Ianne started to turn around, but Alex’s warning squeeze on her waist kept her from moving. She looked up and rolled her eyes at him. Really? I can’t even look at him?
The answer in his emerald gaze was clear. REALLY.
She pressed her face against his chest, trying to keep herself from laughing.
Alex said over her head, “Consider it said. Now, if you’ll excuse us?”
Only when Kenny had walked away did Alex finally allow her to take a tiny step away from him. When he gave her the bouquet, her lips started to tremble.
“I love you.”
She burst into tears. “I love you, too,” she blubbered.
“You don’t sound like it.”
She laughed and cried at his teasing words. “People are looking at us.” She knew how much he didn’t like being noticed this way.
“That’s all right. I want them to know once and for all how proud I am to have you as my girlfriend.” Then he unceremoniously slammed her head back to his chest and said, “Now listen closely because you know how bad I am with words so I might only be able to say this once.”
She started to lift her head, but he pushed her back down, snarling, “And don’t peek while I’m speaking.”
Ianne nodded against his chest obediently.
“You’re not a rebound affair to me, never have been, and never will be.”
Ianne sniffed.
“I’m sorry for making you choose between me and cheerleading. I had neither right nor reason to do so. If it’s any excuse, I was just trying to prevent history from repeating itself. I didn’t want cheerleading to make you think that being single was better than having a boyfriend like me—”
A boyfriend like him? At that, Ianne decided to use her un-girly strength built from years of carrying boxes of computer hardware to wrangle out of Alex’s embrace, look at his face and exclaim, “How can you be so insecure?”
“Shut up,” he said in his usual polite voice and again pushed her head back down on his chest, his arm tightening around her. “I’ve always loved you, Ianne, but I was so damn worried I’d scare you away. And then when I thought you were turning me down, I hated you. I hated you because it hurt that I still loved you even after what you said. And that’s how Zelda got to me. She was so different from you it was easy to lose myself in her.”
“I hate you for that, too,” she mumbled against his chest.
“We all have our foolish moments, and you have to remember that we were just sixteen then,” was all he said.
Alex tipped her chin up. “But now, I want us to start anew. From now on, it’s just you, me, computers and cheerleading. Is that okay with you?”
Ianne couldn’t do anything else but grin idiotically at him. She was that happy.
“And no more Zelda—”
Oops. “Err, about that—”
“Ianne, yoohoo!” Zelda managed to sneak her way between them, forcing Alex and Ianne to part from each other. “Hi Alex!” she greeted him absently before immediately turning her back on him to smile excitedly at Ianne. “Kenny asked me out.”
“That’s so cool?” Ianne was doing her best to ignore the way Alex was scowling at her. Are you fucking for real? You’re going to be friends with my ex?
Err, yes, her weak smile at Alex answered.
“I’ve always thought he’s lame...like he tells the lamest jokes, you know?”
“He’s not lame,” she protested loyally.
“No offense, Ianne, but you’re not exactly the best judge when it comes to lame-ass humor. I mean, you tell the worst jokes, too.”
Ianne was offended. “Hey! You don’t know a thing about my sense of humor. It’s not like we were close before.”
Zelda rolled her eyes. “Oh, come on. I’m not deaf. I’ve heard you say the craziest jokes.” She wrinkled her nose as she mimicked Ianne’s voice when telling a joke. “Who does a pharaoh talk to when he’s sad?” She paused. “His mummy.”
Alex laughed.
Zelda and Ianne gaped at him.
Alex coughed. “Sorry, but I couldn’t help laughing—”
Zelda gasped. “You really found it funny?”
“It wasn’t funny?” Alex asked with genuine bewilderment.
Jacy’s words echoed in her mind, and Ianne realized that she really had found the one man meant to love her forever, cheesy jokes and all. “Oh Alex,” Ianne whispered just before her knees buckled one more time.
Chapter Seventeen
IANNE
Tap, tap, tap.
The insistent tapping on my shoulder made me look up. It was Alex, and he was gazing at me quizzically. “Are you done blogging?”
I pressed the save button and logged out of my WordPress account. “All done,” I said cheerfully as I stood up.
Alex had been voted Best-Looking Male Student in their school, and it was the first time a first year student had been able to beat candidates from higher years. Tonight was the awarding’s ceremony, which required Alex to dress up.
He looked unbelievably gorgeous, with his carelessly combed hair, white frilly shirt with a couple of buttons undone to reveal a few inches of his tanned chest, a pinstriped formal jacket and matching trousers.
Gorgeous. So gorgeous. Oh God, so gorgeous.
My knees buckled – and it was one the strongest knee-jerking experiences I’ve ever had that I didn’t even have time to think of how I was going to avoid falling on my face.
But I didn’t really have to worry because Alex was already there to catch me.
The other female students in the school’s computer lab were virtually letting off heart-shaped sighs at Alex’s knight-saving-a-damsel-in-distress-action. I didn’t mind because I was emitting out some of those as well.
Alex smiled down at me with a mixture of embarrassment, exasperation, amusement, and helpless tenderness. “When we marry, do you think you’ll finally get used to having me around?”
Did he just say m-a-r-r-y?
My heart nearly exploded with happiness. “Did you really say that?” I had to ask in a disbelieving whisper.
He smiled slyly. “What do you think?”
I said slowly, “I’m thinking if we still have time.”
Alex raised a quizzical brow. “Time for what?”
Moving a little so that none of the girls behind me would see what I was doing, I pressed my hand against his chest, allowing it to trail down suggestively until my fingers stopped on the waistband of his pants.
Alex’s face was completely grim. “Don’t. I know you have a thing about your Ianne 2.0 becoming a risk-taker–”
I took the risk and grasped his erection.
His knees buckled.
And then he was swiftly walking me out of the computer lab. “Yeah, I think we still have time,” he muttered. The door swung shut behind us, and seeing that the hallway was empty, Alex took his own risk, kissing me hard as his hand raised my skirt so his fingers could find my panties. He gave me one long stroke.
I moaned against his lips.
He lifted his head. “We’re on the same page? Think we can do this in five minutes?”
Sque
ezing my legs close as I became thoroughly wet, I whispered in embarrassment, “I think I’ll only need two.”
He smirked. “Then I’ll make sure to torture you and make it last for five.”
“Alex!”
But he didn’t say anything else, dragging me with him and into the first empty classroom he could find. Hearing the click of the door’s lock, I whirled around to face him in utter shock. “Are you serious?”
He simply answered by hoisting me up in his arms and moving forward until my back hit the door with a loud thud. Before I could speak, he had lifted my skirt up and tore off my panties. The cool blast of the room’s air-conditioning hit my lower body, making me shiver even as I became wetter, already anticipating—
Zip.
His cock jutted out, all fourteen glorious inches of him.
“Alex.”
And then he was entering me, and I could do was gasp and gasp as he thrust in and out of me, every forceful push threatening to shake off its door from its hinges. Five minutes? Oh, please make it forever.
Alex laughed, and I realized then that I had spoken my thoughts aloud. “You’re kinkier than I thought, baby.” He bit my ear, making me shudder and he whispered after, “But if that’s what you want then we’ll just skip the ceremony and do this.”
“Alex!”
But he was pounding harder and harder into me, and I had a happy/nervous feeling that Alex meant what he said.
