My Son

by Kelly, Marie

Suddenly a loud cry filled the air and Kelly’s eyes had flown open as she pushed Marc from her, her eyes still dark with the desire his body had aroused within her.

“Max” she cried jumping unsteadily to her feet, grabbing her dress as he stood in confusion beside her. Quickly stepping into it and pulling it over her hips and breast she had secured the dress with shaking fingers and without stopping to pick up her shoes Kelly had run from the room, her breath laboured, not from the need to run, but from the love making that had gone on in that room.

Reaching Max’s Cot she looked down at the small child his arms flailing while he screamed for somebody to hold him. She picked him up in her arms, nursing him and whispering soft words of reassurance and as she stood there it all came flooding back to her.

Marc had told her that he wanted her to be his mistress, and she had fallen into his arms almost gratefully. Kelly felt humiliated at the way her body and defences had collapsed with just a touch from him and at that moment she hated herself, despising the way she was unable to resist him. Looking down at Max she had groaned with pain. She couldn’t be Marc’s mistress; she couldn’t be the latest notch on his bed. She remembered Trudy and all those other women who had come and gone from his life and bed. For Max and her own sanity’s sake she couldn’t be another.

Max was now quiet again calmed by the feel of his loving mother and her gentle rocking. His eyes closing as he had once more drifted back to sleep.

Only now did she become aware of Marc leaning against the door, his eyes softly watching the scene before him. He still wore only his trousers, which were only partially done up, his wonderful chest and shoulders bare, as she had gulped with the jolt of desire that flooded her.

“Is he OK” he had asked with concern

Kelly caught her breath at the softness in his voice, concern for a son whom he had only recently found out he had.

  “He’s fine” she whispered gently

“Come to bed with me” he had whispered in a soft sensual tone which saw her legs almost turning to jelly, his eyes holding hers, those dark eyes full of such fire. Kelly wanted so much to do so, but looking down at Max she had hardened her heart not listening to her bodies cries.

“I don’t think that would be a good idea” she finally managed

Marc had frowned, his eyes showing surprise as at that moment a wayward strand of hair had fallen over his eye, almost causing Kelly’s resolve to melt away with the desire to push it from him and kiss his lips

“Why” the confusion on his face and in his eyes bore into hers

Dropping her head so that he could not see the turmoil within her she had scrambled for some reason, aware that if he kissed her again she might not be able to hold on to her determination, and mustering up as much courage as she could she finally raised her eyes looking at him coldly

“I think that you’ve tried enough of the goods. Why give away the ending” She stated “As I said if the deal falls through I’ll let you know”

With that she had lowered her eyes again so that he would not see how much it had hurt her to say those words

The effect on Marc was instant. He stood stock still in shock for a few seconds before turning wordlessly on his heels and marching out of the room. She heard him moving back down the stairs and after a minute the sound of the front door slamming shut.

Only when he had gone did she look up and then the tears had fallen from her eyes silently, as her heart broke into a thousand pieces. Finally she understood why she couldn’t be his mistress, why she could not allow herself to be seduced, although her body cried out for him. She was in love with Marc, totally and completely in love with him, the father of her beloved Max and a man who would only ever see her as a temporary dalliance.

Kelly had gently placed Max back in his cot before entering her own room through the connecting doors. Only when she was safely curled up tightly in a ball on the giant bed did she finally allow the sobs to totally take over, wracking her small body with such intensity as her broken heart yearned for that which it could never have.

  CHAPTER TEN

Kelly had not slept for the rest of the night. Lying awake she had waited to hear the sound of Marc’s car returning, but he never did. Finally as the sun had broken, she had arisen and moved to the shower, her mind replaying the way his hands had touched her and his mouth had kissed her as she washed, moaning miserably as the water had trickled so sensually down her, feeling as her tears had mixed with the luke warm water.

Going downstairs she had made herself a cup of tea, remembering that Beth would not be there that day, her tortured mind wondered where Marc was. Had he gone to see Olivia Prentiss, who had made it more than clear at the party that they were more than friends, frowning at the thought as a hot shooting pain had gripped her stomach. She had no right to be jealous she thought to herself, after all she had rejected him in the cruellest way possible.

As she had sat replaying the events of the previous night for what seemed the millionth time, she heard the door open and instantly froze, knowing that it could be only one person. Kelly softly prayed that he would go straight up to his room, but his footsteps on the tiles as he entered the large kitchen ended that hope. Throwing his keys on the surface she had thought how tired he looked. As he finally looked up and saw her sitting at the table nursing a large mug, his expression had instantly turned stony.

“Well, well if it isn’t our resident little tease”

He said with a cruel sneer in his voice, as he lent against the door frame

Kelly had flinched but remained silent.

  “What nothing to say? “

She had lowered her eyes and shaken her head, and from the other side of the room she had heard his sharp intake of breath.

“Damn you Kelly” he said his voice low and husky

She could sense that he had straightened up and taken a step towards her, before changing his mind and leaving the room moving quickly up the stairs.

Kelly put her head into her hands and cried, she had thought that she would have no more tears left, but still they came stinging her already tired and burning eyes.

For the rest of the day Marc had actively avoided Kelly ignoring her whenever they had to be in the same room. He had taken the day off to spend with Max, but frowned whenever she was around and with her heart breaking a little more each time he looked at her with his barely concealed contempt, she had finally made an excuse that she had work to do, letting him spend the time with his son without her unwanted presence. In her room she had paced up and down wondering what to do, it was clear that they couldn’t go on like this, couldn’t live with his seething anger and contempt.

She had left Marc to get Max ready for bed, letting him carry out the usual bed and bath time routine, while she sat listening on her monitor to the sound of a happy Marc. When she closed her eyes visions of him admiring her body telling her how beautiful she was would leap to her mind, visions to torture her already fragile heart. When he finally left Max in his cot, saying goodnight gently to the small boy, she had waited until Max’s soft cooing had been replaced by the gently rhythmic sounds of his sleeping breath, before creeping in to gaze down on his sweet little face. Leaning in she had given him a small kiss, which had not even caused him to stir

“Goodnight sweetie” she whispered “I love you”

In his room Marc had heard her on his monitor and throwing the book away from him, suddenly felt the need for exercise.

Kelly listened at the hallway, having been trapped in her room for most of the day she wanted to walk, to feel the sun and wind on her body. However, she didn’t want to unexpectedly bump into Marc, and once more face his contempt. Gently and stealthily she had moved down the stairs and slipped out of the front door without meeting anybody on the way. Taking a sigh of relief she had started to walk away from the house, her monitor tucked safely inside her pocket, as with no real direction in mind she had aimlessly began to walk towards the corner which w
ould best shield her from view of anybody watching from the house.

As she cleared the corner she had came across the pool area, where to her surprise Marc was standing on the side ready to dive in. For a second Kelly had considering whether or not to retreat back into the cover of the bushes, however, the sight of his long muscular body had frozen her to the spot, the memories of that body touching her, exploring her, kissing her causing her to shiver gently.

As she had stood indecisively he dove cleanly into the water. She had instinctively known that he would be an excellent swimmer; he had the body of a swimmer, with wide muscular shoulders tapering down to a slim waist. Having swum the full length of the pool and performed a smooth changeover at the other side he had returned and standing up, he had then seen her standing there. She had watched as his whole body had tightened and slowly she moved forward.

“Marc..” she said softly her voice tremulous

“About yesterday…..I shouldn’t have said what I did”

He had cut her off dryly his tone almost bored

“Don’t worry about it” watching as she had nervously played with her hands

“At least we both know where we stand”

She once more opened her mouth to continue, as he had held up a hand to silence her

“Was there anything else” he asked a hard edge to his voice

“Because I would like to swim alone…..Unless of course you’re offering more freebies”

Kelly had reeled back in shock. Her large eyes full of hurt as she had whispered

  “I didn’t deserve that”

Before turning and stumbling back towards the house. Behind her she had heard Marc swearing angrily hearing the unmistakable sound of him pulling himself from the water in a quick fluid movement.

  “Kelly.. Wait” he had cried

Feeling the tears rising once more to her eyes she had needed to get away and was almost running in her need to put as much distance between them as she could. However within a few paces, she had felt his hands on her arm stopping her in mid stride before turning her around to face him as she had kept her head lowered refusing to let him see the hurt in her eyes. Hearing him groan she had continued to keep her head down

  “I’m sorry… I don’t know why I said that”

“It doesn’t matter” she managed to say still looking at her feet, as she had felt his finger hook under her chin and gently but firmly lift her face so that she was forced to look up to meet his gaze.

She had taken a small intake of breath seeing the fire in his dark eyes as they had blazed into hers

“It does matter…I shouldn’t have said it”

“You only said what you thought” Kelly managed softly

“No….I just….” He had faltered a frustrated expression crossing his face

“You drive me crazy Kelly…. One minute your right there with me…. And the next..”

He had groaned once more, before pulling her in closely to him and closing his mouth over hers. Feeling his touch on her lips Kelly had given a soft moan and her whole body had melted against him her need for him once more rising to the fore, as with a tortured sigh her hands had moved up to wind around his neck. His strong arms had snaked around her waist crushing her against his hard wet body and she had felt the heat rising inside her threatening to destroy the last vestige of will power she possessed.

“No..” she cried out pulling her lips from his and pushing him at arms distance.

“I can’t” she had cried in an anguished voice

“Like that” he whispered his voice ragged

She was shaking her head with as much determination as she could muster

“No Marc… we can’t, I can’t” she cried, her eyes staring wildly at him seeing the smouldering look in his

“He’s not Danny Kelly” Marc had cried out to her

“He could never care for you the way I do.”

Kelly could not understand what he was saying. Who wasn’t Danny?

“I want you” he murmured softly once more making to move towards her as she had stumbled backwards

  “No Marc…..You’re wrong…. You’re so wrong”

She had cried, before with a small sob, turning and running back to the house, only stopping when she was safely in her room. Pulling off her wet clothes with trembling fingers she had played over the conversation in her head. She couldn’t understand what he was talking about why he had mentioned Danny. Who could never care for her? Before it had finally dawned on her that he was talking about Philip. He still believed that she was out to get Philip and she had moaned with frustration. So he wanted her to be his mistress and not Philips and remembering him say that Phil could not care for her as well as he could, she had become angry. Marc De Santo wasn’t capable of real love, how long would he care for her, how long would it be before he bored of her, and what would happen to her and Max when he did.

Marc had stood watching her run back to the house, her blonde hair flowing behind her as she fled. He didn’t follow her- there seemed little point, she had been very vocal in her feelings towards him. She didn’t want him, she wanted Philip. Marc’s mouth had tightened solemnly. Well that would have to change he decided, because he wanted her, and not even Philip was going to stop him getting what he wanted.

The next day being Monday had seen a return to some semblance of normality. When she had entered the kitchen Beth was once again standing there smiling cheerily at her

“Well, how was the party” she had asked brightly

“Did the world fall apart because you wore the sexy dress?”

Kelly had given a small laugh, remembering just how badly the world had indeed fallen apart.

“How was your day off” she had asked back seeing the big smile spread over Beth’s face

“Fantastic, stayed in bed the whole day and ordered carry out”

Kelly had laughed shaking her head.

“Wow…. You really know how to push out the boat”

“Did you and Marc do anything on Sunday” Beth had asked her voice innocent as she had watched the younger woman

For a second Kelly thought she had seen a particular glint in her eyes, but her dismissive shrug of the shoulder and

“No Marc took Max out; I had to catch up with some work”

had resulted in the older woman looking almost disappointed as she had made a small snorting noise.

“Oh….. and you talk about me”

As they had sat down for breakfast Kelly had found that she was hungry, realising that she had eaten nothing at all the previous day. Moving her hand over her temple Kelly had felt the throbbing of her sore head. Despite the fact that she had fallen instantly asleep the previous night, it had not been refreshing, but one full of nightmares from which she seemed to be unable to wake from.

“Are you OK” Beth had asked softly noticing how pale she looked

“I’m fine thanks” she had answered with a weak smile

“Bit of a headache. I’ll take Max out for a walk the air will do me good”

That was exactly what Kelly had done and for the next couple of hours she had walked around the villa grounds with Max contentedly chattering in his buggy. The air had helped and by the time she returned to the villa she had felt much better. She was met by a beaming Beth who had dragged her into the main living room to see the huge bouquet of flowers which sat on the coffee table

“These arrived for you 10 minutes ago” the woman had said hovering excitedly.

  “Who are they from?”

“Give me a moment” Kelly had laughed, pulling the card from the centre of the flowers surprised to see a handwritten note from Philip

  Thank you

I really am the happiest man alive

I’ll be back from London next week, when we can come clean

See you very soon, can’t wait to let everybody know our little secret, starting with Marc

  Love Philip

  “They’re from Philip” she had
said smiling softly

  “That’s so sweet”

  Beth however, was frowning slightly

“Philip? ….. Oh, I... I’ll get you some vases for those”

From the hallway a sudden wailing could be heard as Max having been left in his buggy all that time had decided that he had been patient long enough and resorted to crying for his freedom.

Kelly had sighed dropping the envelope before rushing through to get him, quickly unbuckling the small boy before he really started to scream the place down, laughing as she had lifted him

“You really are a De Santo…” she chuckled adding with a sigh “beating all the other little kids to those terrible twos”

Max had struggled against her, determination in his face as his little body had become rigid, arching his back to get down, and setting him on the ground she had to run after him as he had sped across the hallway on his knees

“Come back here young man” she cried as the large door had opened and Marc had entered.

Kelly’s heart had dropped to the pit of her stomach as she had frozen to the spot, her eyes staring hauntingly at him.

Marc however had grabbed Max who had seen an opportunity to escape outside and was trying to make good his bid for freedom

“Oh no you don’t young man” he had laughed at the little boy

“Your mummy said no” before he had looked down at her, his eyes soft with no hardness in them at all.

Kelly had stared back, a surprised yet wary look on her face.
