Ball of Confusion

by Ian Black

A: I used to be very one-eyed and self-opinionated. Maturity taught me to delve both sides of the fence, and if necessary sit on it. I believe too many people damn others without considering what they’d have done in similar circumstances. I’ve travelled extensively, served in the army, worked many jobs and met culturally diverse people from umpteen walks of life. Unfortunately, too many are too selfish and blinkered to realise how narrow-minded they are. I compared George, Hazma and Millie, over thirty years from birth, to demonstrate:

  Circumstance + Influence = Opinion + Consequence.

  Q: Why?

A: I’ve been amongst dragons, and sometimes thought like them. Some are beyond redemption for ever; but I firmly believe many perpetrators of violence could be “nipped in the bud” or “refocused”, by prompting them to consider the flipside. But they won’t listen by lecturing. Powerful media (music/film/literature) must send the message.

Q: The title Ball of Confusion… why?

A: My head spins always… and the Temptations song.

Q: How could you do that to George?

A: I grew up watching a tramp, for years from afar, wondering: how he became so destitute? What would it be like to have nothing? Was he really as scary as he looked? I never found out; he disappeared… but stayed with me!
