  “I’d love that,” he said, excited. “I’ll introduce you to Ghost and show you around my neighborhood. There’s a movie theater a few blocks away that plays old horror films every weekend.”

  She pulled her hand away, stirring her cider with a red cinnamon candy stick. “Meeting your cat is an important step.”

  “Let’s just take it one day at a time,” he said, his eyes twinkling.

  “What about tonight?”

  “Tonight?”

  “Do you have plans?” She brought the swirled candy stick to her lips and sucked on it teasingly.

  “I’m hoping to get you up to my room in the next five minutes. What happens after that is more of a fantasy than a plan.”

  She let him pay the check, and they went upstairs. As soon as they were inside his room, he covered her mouth with his, kicking the door shut with his foot. She twined her arms around his neck and gave him a cinnamon-flavored kiss, overflowing with happiness, determined to make his fantasy a reality.
