Dominic had no issues with it, though. His family was rich enough already. He barely needed the money he made at the firm, so it really meant nothing to him. He’d probably put an entire graduating class through college by now with his libido.

But I wasn’t looking for that. Not at all. And frankly, the whole hookup scene was getting stale too. I was almost thirty. If my parents were still alive, I’m sure at least one of them would be urging me to settle down by now.

Life could be a real son of a bitch sometimes. Both of them had died in an accident on the freeway before I finished college. They never got to see me go to law school or reach this level of success. Losing them was another reason I’d never been in a real long-term relationship. The thought of losing someone I really loved again was just too much to imagine.

But lately, the omegas had started to blur into one another, each night the same as the next. I barely had to work for it anymore. They saw me, six feet tall, flawlessly tanned with a sculpted body that only fitness models achieved, and they were already hurling themselves at my feet. Then when they caught my alpha scent and saw the designer suits, it was all over for them. They were mine.

I liked the control. That was a major thing in my life. Control.

Every aspect of my life was carefully calculated and perfected. My body was sculpted by my lifestyle and my career had been forged by my unbreakable will and ambition. Random sex with guys that were sometimes completely unsatisfying, was getting stale. I needed more.

And that’s why I’d installed the new room in my house. It’s where I’d put my toys. All the things that would allow me to have that power I had at the office, but consistently, and in the bedroom. But I couldn’t just bring some random floozy in there. No, I needed someone committed. Someone who would go on that journey with me. Someone to fill that hole in my life.

“Shit, man. My dick’s itching,” Dominic chuckled as we pulled up in front of the club. The line was absolutely massive, packed with omegas in tight jeans, tailored slacks and shirts with low necklines to show off their bodies.

“You oughtta get that checked out,” I told him as he pulled into the private lot and took a ticket. The man in the booth raised his eyebrows at the Rolls.

“You like that? Play your cards right you could find yourself in the back seat, big boy.” Dominic winked. He was cute, but not Dom’s type. He was just messing with him. Before the poor omega could respond, we were sliding into an open space.

I hopped out, straightened my belt and we headed across the street toward the club. The omegas closest to the door caught a whiff of us before we were even close, and I saw about six heads turn in unison as we approached.

“Fellas,” Dominic grinned, giving the boys a half salute. I could hear their whispers as we stepped up to the guy at the door.

“Look at that tall drink of water…”

  “Did you see that car?”

“That one in the grey suit looks like he’d be an animal in bed.”

The doorman took one look at us and moved the velvet rope aside. Alpha musk wasn’t the only thing he could smell on us.

“Better work your magic quick, Cole, ol’ buddy,” Dominic said, patting me on the back. “’Cause these omegas are mine tonight!”

“What kind of experience?” Tony asked me as he took a drag of his cigar. We were standing in the alley behind his new club where I was practically begging him for a job.

The bus ride had taken pretty much two days, after all the stops and connections, and my body felt like it had been dragged for miles across a rocky beach. I’d heard a few omegas talking about a new club opening in West Hollywood and made my way there immediately. I needed a job. Hell, I needed a place to stay. At least if I worked nights I could head to the beach and crash for some sleep during the day and not have to worry about being out on the streets when the sun went down.

“I’ve bartended,” I replied. “I’ve worked some clubs on the East Coast.”

  “You’re from the East Coast?”

“Maine, Boston,” I nodded. “I can dance. I can schmooze the alphas, make them feel special. I can even go that extra mile if you’re looking for that.”

Tony eyed me suspiciously as he took another drag. He wasn’t like the guys back home that owned the clubs. There was something refined about him, like he’d grown up rich and was just running this club because he felt like it, or he wanted to impress his friends.

“You a cop or something?” he finally said.

“What!?” I replied, almost falling over. “Do I look like a cop to you? Everything I own is in this bag right here! I just got off the bus from fucking Maine, and I need a job. I’ll take whatever you’ve got.”

I stood there, my heart ready to jump out of my chest, as Tony examined me again. I couldn’t look any less like a cop if I tried. He was probably just messing with me, trying to get an idea of my personality.

“Tonight’s launch night,” he said. “I’ll take you on tonight and test you out. You do well, we can talk tomorrow about something more permanent.”

“Thank you!” I gasped. Finally, some good news.

“But you gotta get something nicer on,” he said, looking almost repulsed at what I was wearing. “See if one of the boys will loan you something. You said you can dance?”

  “Everything but the Macarena!”

Something like a smile barely registered on Tony’s lips as he tossed the butt of his cigar to the ground. “Forty a dance, plus whatever they tip you. Half the tips are mine. And don’t hold anything back. I find out you’re holding anything back and you never work here again, understand?”

“Of course!” I replied quickly. “Half the tips. No problem.”

“And I might even send Rocco and Sammy to break your legs too,” he added as he tugged open the door and stepped inside.

“Fucking shit…” I muttered to myself, taking a deep breath. The air in Los Angeles was something else, a far cry from the crisp, clean air back in Maine. Down here in the city, the smog was thick. The whole place was hazy when I got off the bus. Everything up in the hills must have been a lot better. Not that I’d ever get to be up there.

Preparing myself for the worst, I pulled open the heavy metal door and stepped into the club.

The back room was predictably drab and cramped. A tiny janitor’s closet was on my right and I moved forward into the locker room where a bunch of the guys were getting ready for the night.

“Hey, fellas,” I said with a smile. I could tell by the way they all looked up and scowled that they were all friends. And here I was, the new guy, invading their turf. “Nice night, huh? How do I get a locker for my stuff?”

I lifted my tiny duffel bag into the air and gave them the best non-threatening smile I could. But they weren’t buying it. One of them shrugged, but that was the most I got back. The rest just looked away.

“Okay…” I muttered, making my way to an unoccupied corner of the room. If they weren’t going to let me know how to use a locker, they sure as Hell weren’t going to help me out with some clothes.

I was wearing a worn pair of jeans and a t-shirt, but I had a few things in my bag that could be passed off as sexy. I unzipped my bag and found my best button-up shirt and a pair of black slacks. I slid into them and rolled the sleeves up as tight as I could, unbuttoned the top button and tucked in the shirt. Maybe they’d buy the sexy waiter routine?

There was a gap in the corner between the lockers. I slid my duffel bag in and pushed it back as far as it would go, hoping no one would notice it there. I hardly had anything worth stealing anyway aside from my phone.

Music was pounding through the walls from what must have been the main dance floor of the club. I waited for a mega-sassy looking twink to finish his make-up in the mirror before checking myself out.

You look like shit, I thought, sneering at myself. My outfit looked like a bad stripper outfit that you’d buy at an adult Halloween shop, and
unlike the other guys around here, I was white as a ghost.

“Whatever,” I told myself quietly as the rest of the guys started to filter out of the locker room and into the club. “Just fucking do it.”

I couldn’t have been in any less of a sexual mood as I stepped into the club. I’d just gotten off the longest trip of my life, my body was tired, I was exhausted and all I wanted to do was go to sleep. But I had to work. I had to make enough money to get a motel room and get my shit together.

The club was absolutely slammed. Alphas, betas and omegas were everywhere. The whole first floor was one big dance floor with a bar on a raised area by the entrance. Purple and pink lights swept across the room as house music blasted.

The air was thick with the scent of horny alphas. It was almost overwhelming, that much pure sexual energy in the air. I could feel their eyes on me as I made my way across the room. I had absolutely no idea where to go or what to do or where you were supposed to give dances, but the bartenders always had answers, so I made my way to the bar.

“Hey!” I shouted over the music to the beta with the shaved head making someone a vodka tonic. “How are ya? My name’s Keiran!”

“What’s up, Keiran?” he nodded. “I’m Russ. You new in town?”

“How could you tell?” I smiled. Russ poured the drink and slid it across the bar to an alpha who looked like he was already a few deep.

“Easy to spot an out-of-towner,” he laughed. “What can I get you?”

“Actually, I’m working here,” I replied. “And uh…I don’t know anybody. Where do you give dances in this place?”

“Tony didn’t show you around, huh?” he laughed, as though that would be an impossibility. He pointed across the room. “Main dance floor. Customer bathrooms. Back rooms for dances. Booths. Frank’s the spotter tonight. You see him there?”

Frank, a big brute of an alpha, stood at the door to the back room looking bored as all Hell.

  “Spotter?”

“It’s his job to make sure the dances stay dances, you know what I mean?” Russ asked.

“Wow,” I replied, impressed. “Classy joint. Dances was always code for totally-not-dances at the clubs I’ve worked.”

“Yeah, none of that hanky-panky here,” Russ grinned. “At least that’s what Tony says. We’ll see how things go down the line.”

“Thanks!” I smiled, shaking his hand. “I’m gonna see if I can drum up some money!”

  “Best of luck!”

Turning back to the crowd, I felt my head start to spin as I looked out at all the people. Where to even begin? It was like searching for a needle in a mountain of needles. How was I supposed to pick a single alpha out from this mess?

But then, the world made the decision for me.

A scent, so sweet and utterly devastating that I felt my knees go weak, slid into my nose, completely pushing out any other scents. It was sweet caramel, with a hint of spice, that went straight to my heart.

Whirling around, I sniffed the air, searching for the source of the heavenly scent. A group of drunk betas were chatting beside me. I pushed my way past them, and then I saw him.

There. In a grey suit, with a flawless tan and a perfectly styled quaff of reddish-blond hair, was the owner of the scent. The most unbelievable alpha I’d ever laid eyes on.

“Shit,” I said out loud. And almost as though he’d heard me, he turned. Our eyes met, and my life changed forever.

  Cole

“Shit, there are so many to pick from!” Dominic roared behind me, already on his second rum and Coke. “I dunno what I’m gonna do!”

I heard him, but at the same time, I didn’t. My concentration was on the omega standing across the dance floor from me. I’d caught his scent before I saw him, but now that our eyes were locked, I was practically hypnotized.

He wasn’t tall, but he wasn’t short. Average height, with straight blond hair. His eyes were a sweet amber, like honey. I was salivating.

Who the fuck was this guy?

He didn’t belong in a place like this. I don’t know why I thought that, but I did. He belonged in my house, being treated to a trip to my new room and then spoiled like the little prince he was.

I made a step toward him, but a crowd of drunken betas barged in front of me, all wasted off their asses. Practically snarling, I shoved them out of my way, but when I looked back across the crowd, my omega was nowhere to be found.

“Shit!” I swore, my voice barely audible over the pounding bass.

“Got your eye on someone?” Dominic shouted, wrapping his arm around me. I was frantically searching the crowd for the omega that had just rocked my world.

  What was he wearing!?

I couldn’t even remember. I’d been so fixated on his eyes, transfixed by his stare, that I hadn’t been paying attention. His shirt was…white?

“You see an omega with a white shirt on!?” I shouted back to Dominic. His breath smelled like rum as he yelled back.

“That’s supposed to narrow it down?” he laughed. But all the same, he looked around with me. “This one?”

He pointed, and I followed his finger across the room where a short brunette was standing against a pillar.

“No,” I shook my head, sighing. I kept looking. It was impossible. Guys were packed into the dance floor like sardines. There was a group of guys wearing sparkling shirts, a group of young guys in suits they’d obviously just picked up that night and would try to return in the morning, and a few kids obviously too young to drink. How the Hell did they get in here?

I could smell my omega’s scent. It was faint, and impossible to lock down or track among all the other smells in the club. But then I heard raised voices from behind me, and I turned to see a monster of a dude with his hand on my omega’s arm.

  “Get off!” he was shouting.

“What’s the issue, sweet thing?” the alpha grinned. He looked like a shady mobster or a sleazy loan shark. “You too good for my money? I wanna see that ass shaking!”

“I’m just not – ready right now!” The sweet omega was stuttering as he protested, trying to get out of the dirtbag’s grip. The fox in me stirred, wanting to be let loose right here in the middle of the club. A primal rage stirred inside me that shocked me at just how fierce it was. This son of a bitch was about to get his head torn off if he didn’t let go of my omega.

“There he is,” I growled, sliding out from under Dominic’s arm and striding quickly across the dance floor. People either got out of my way or were shoved aside. The omega’s scent filled my nostrils as I stepped up beside him.

“You think you’re special or something?” the alpha growled. “My money’s as good as the next man’s.”

“Hey, pal,” I said threateningly. “Didn’t you hear him? He’s not ready. Now why don’t you kindly get lost and go fuck yourself?”

“Excuse me? I didn’t hear you?” the alpha replied, turning his attention to me. I saw his grip on the omega slip and seized the opportunity. I grabbed the beautiful boy by the arm and pulled him behind me. The warmth from his body and his unbelievable scent was almost too much to handle.

“You heard me just fine, big boy,” I smiled, standing my ground. I had a read on him. Guys like this were all talk. I could tell he grew up easy, probably came from money, and was used to paying his way through life.

“You looking for trouble, pal?” he replied. He looked like he couldn’t believe someone would have the balls to step up to him, and that made me chuckle.

“Get lost, buddy,” I told him. “There are more than enough omegas to go around. And I’m sure one of them actually likes alphas that dress like a used car salesman.”

He moved fast, but it wasn’t fast enough. His left hand swung out in a wild haymaker, but I ducked and the blow swung harmlessly over my head.

“Wha—” He was shocked and pulled back for another shot. But I wasn’t about to give him time to recover.

My right arm shot out. It was just
a jab, but I knew how to put my weight into it. I heard his nose break as my knuckles found their mark. The big bastard stumbled back, tripped, then tumbled backwards into a crowd of four guys. They all moved aside and just let him hit the floor.

“You all right?” I asked, turning to the omega standing beside me. Our eyes met again and it was like the whole world was set on fire. Never had I felt something so pure, so intense and so undeniable. I’d smelled great scents before, but this was something else. If someone had asked me what my favorite smell was, I wouldn’t have been able to come up with an answer, but now, smelling this omega standing before me, I knew.

He smelled like banana nut bread and I just wanted to eat him up. Instantly I was picturing all the things I would do to him. This wasn’t a one-and-done kind of omega. A possessive feeling had taken over me like I’d never felt before.

“Fine!” the omega blurted out, looking shocked.

“I’m Cole,” I told him, taking his hand and bringing it to my lips. I don’t know why I did it. It just felt right. I kissed the back of his palm and inhaled deeply, saturating my lungs with his scent.

“Keiran,” he replied quickly, as if he wasn’t in control of his own speech. I could hear the dickhead alpha getting up behind me and quickly took Keiran’s hand and pulled him away through the crowd. Dominic was standing by the bar, chatting up one of the omegas that looked like he’d gotten in here with a fake ID.

“Dom!” I shouted, coming up beside him.

“Aye, Cole!” he laughed. “Let me introduce you to….”

“David?” the omega said, finishing his sentence.

“David!” Dominic cracked up. “David, this is Cole—”

“I need the keys,” I interrupted, holding out my hand.
