Pulling myself together, I check the address on my phone, put the postcode in my Sat Nav and start the engine.
I pull up at her address, get out and knock the door. Darcy answers the door with a nervous smile.
“Hi Adam,” She looks good dressed in light blue ripped jeans, a t-shirt and trainers. “Um, you didn’t tell me how I should dress, do I look okay? I can change.”
“No, no. You look good!” Dragging my eyes away from her luscious curves. “Are you ready?” She nods and turns away from me, shouts to say she’s going, picks up her keys, her phone and shuts the door behind her.
I open the door for her as she smiles and gets in the car. Before I open the driver door, I blow out a breath and get in. I look across at Darcy and smile.
“So, I suppose you’re wondering what I’ve got planned for today?”
“I am a little, yeah.”
“I hope you like it.” I say staring into her big green eyes. I look away quickly, “we better get a move on.”
We spend the next forty-five minutes listening to music she tells me who her favourite bands are and get comfortable with each other. I pull up at the Go-Kart track and watch her reaction as she goes wide-eyed and smirks.
“Go-Karts…?” A lazy smile spreads across her face, “Oh my gosh, Adam I love Go-Karts!” Her voice goes up an octave as she gets excited and jumps out of the truck.
Thank God for that. “I kind of guessed this would be the best thing since you’re a mechanic and all.” She nods excitedly.
“I’m so gonna kick your arse at this.” she smiles wide and starts walking towards the entrance. “Come on then if you’re coming!”
I lock up the truck, jog towards Darcy and pay for us to get in.
“Thanks. I could’ve paid though.”
“No way. This was my idea so I pay.” I wink at her, grab her hand and pull her towards the track.
Once we’ve had the safety talk from the guys there, Darcy jumps in a red kart and I jump in the blue one. There’s only another two or three on the track, so it’s game on.
At the starting line, we rev up and as soon as the flag goes up; we’re off. I lead for the first couple of laps before I see her come up the side of me and passes me. Oh, it’s on now.
We spend the next hour like that, passing each other until I just pip her at the finishing flag. She gets out of the kart with a huge smile on her face, which makes me happy. Every time I’ve seen her she looks like she has the weight of the world on her shoulders, but today she looks light, happy.
“Come on, let’s go get a drink.”
I lead her into the cafe at the track and find a table. I watch as she walks to the counter and orders our coffees. Her jeans cling to the curves of her arse giving me an outline and a very good image in my head. She turns with the coffees and walk back towards me.
Once she’s seated she smiles at me, “Thanks for the coffee.” I tell her as I pour a small packet of sugar in the cup and stir it up.
“You’re welcome, you paid for our admission, so I can at least get the drinks.” she says as she shrugs.
“So, Darcy. Tell me about the garage.”
She drops her eyes from mine for a second then looks back at me intently.
“It’s my Dad's… actually no, it’s mine. I run the garage, I do the books. The guys work for me but I don’t know for how much longer though to be honest,” she says so quiet I have to strain to hear her.
“So, who’s there today?”
“I’ll be honest we only open until dinnertime and Stephen opens up on a Saturday. I try and help my Mum out on a weekend…”
“Which is why you said no to me when I text you?” I ask cutting her off.
“You got it.”
“You’re a little young to be taking over a business though, does your Dad still get involved?” I watch as a sadness takes over and the smile from earlier has completely disappeared. “I’m sorry Darcy I didn’t want to upset you, forget I asked.” I take a sip of my cappuccino and look out the window.
“It’s fine,” I turn my head to look at her but she looks away now. “My Dad has depression. He had an accident a couple of years ago and left him so he couldn’t work. His depression is really bad, I keep trying to get him to come to the garage and maybe do some of the admin, you know just to get him out of the house... but he won’t,” she gives me a sad smile and drinks her coffee.
“Wow, I’m sorry. It must be a lot to take on?” She raises an eyebrow at me. ”Ah shit. I didn’t mean that the way it came out, honestly.”
“It’s fine, really,” Darcy says laughing.
We stare at each other across the table, her face pulls into a smile, which makes me smile. I don’t know how long I’ll be able to keep this ‘friends’ business up. I look over her features and see some froth on the tip of her nose from her coffee. I reach across the table as she follows the path my finger is taking.
“You have some froth on your nose,”
“Ohhh.”
I wipe it off for her and smile again. Her blush rises over her cheeks, it’s adorable.
This girl is going to kill me.
DARCY
His whole face lights up with his smile. It makes me want to smile more, his happiness is contagious. Not so cocky after all.
His plump lips and the stubble on his chin with his mussed-up hair, it makes want to touch him, run my fingers through his hair or run my palm over the roughness... I wonder what it would feel like…
Breaking myself out of my not so clean thoughts I change the subject. “So enough about my depressing life, tell me about you.” I rest my chin in my hand and listen to him talk. His voice is like velvet, deep but soft. In fact, I could listen to it all day.
“Well as you know I’m a writer and I like photography. I’ve actually just got a job as freelance writer/photographer for a magazine,” he says with a smile.
“That’s amazing news, Adam. Congratulations!” I lean across the table to kiss his cheek, feeling bold. Not that I can really back out now; I place my lips to his cheek and lightly touch it.
As I pull away, our eyes meet as we hold each other’s gaze just for a moment. What is wrong with me… I sit back in my chair and busy myself with my coffee. I look out the window to divert my attention. I don’t want to look at his lips at all…
“Do you want to get out of here or do you want to go around the track again?
My eyes widen with excitement. “Can we go around again?”
He’s either ignored what I just done or he’s trying to make it easier on me. I felt it though, I felt the air change between us.
“Come on Darcy, I need to show you who’s the best!” I get up from the chair as he winks then displays that cheeky grin, I’m beginning to like.
* * * * * * * *
After he beat me yet again, we decided to call it a day and headed back to the car. The journey home was a lot more relaxed than the drive there as we laughed and chatted.
I told Adam more about my Dad and about the garage, he listened to me and took in every word I said to him. Spending the day with him today has introduced me to a different Adam that I met a couple of weeks ago, the cocky arrogant one was nowhere to be seen.
We pull up at my house and see Mum’s car in the driveway. He turns in his chair and looks at me.
“Thank you for agreeing to spending the day with me today, Darcy. I’ve really enjoyed it.” I smile shyly and look down.
“Darcy, look at me please?”
I lift my chin up a fraction and look across at him. I watch as he leans across and does the same to me as I did in the cafe to him, but his lips linger a little longer against my cheek.
His lips feel soft. My breathing speeds up, I try to relax myself but I can’t, he’s in such close proximity. He moves his lips across just an inch until I can feel his warm breath at the corner of my mouth.
His finger traces down my cheek until he reaches my chin. He rests the knuckle of his finger under my it as
his thumb strokes my bottom lip. He pulls me closer to him until his lips touch mine gently, he presses against my them until I press back against his.
There’s a lot to be said for this type of kiss. I feel like a teenager again only it’s not awkward. His hand cups my cheek and his fingers thread into my hair.
His thumb smooths across my cheekbone as his tongue pushes against my lips, I give him the access he requests and very softly his tongue touches mine. My body wakes up to his touch as I kiss him back.
Pulling away at the same time, I open my eyes to see him smiling at me. His smile causes my own to pull at my face, I haven’t smiled this much in a long time.
Adam takes my hand in his and rubs his thumb across my knuckles. I rest my back and smile again like a fool. What do I do now, say thank you, ask to see him again or what? He seems to read my mind though.
“Can I see you again, Darcy?
CHAPTER 7
ADAM
I wait patiently for an answer from her. I want to see her again if she’ll let me, I honestly didn’t expect that.
I’m part in shock that she even looked so happy with me, let alone let me kiss her. That kind of kiss shouldn’t have got me so hard in my jeans that I can’t sit straight - but it did. It was innocent, sweet. I don’t do either of those things but with Darcy... I’m willing to, if she’ll give me the chance.
“So, what you say?” She nods as her eyes trace my face.
“Yes. I’d like that.” Darcy says quietly. I pull on the hand that I’m holding,
“Come here…” She leans in as I catch her lips with mine again.
Loosening her hand, they instantly go to her face and cup her cheeks. I want to devour her but let’s start small, kissing her with more passion this time, my tongue seeks out hers and they tangle in sync; like I’d always been kissing her. I’ve never really wanted a relationship with any girl but Darcy is different.
Pulling away, I watch as her tongue peeks out to lick her lips. My dick is straining against the zip of my jeans. Easy there, boy!
I try to readjust myself without Darcy seeing but I fail miserably. She laughs as I shake my head. “What can I say, he’s a lively one.”
She laughs loudly again but I see the blush in her cheeks too. “Oh my god Adam! I can’t believe you just that!” She puts her face in her hands and shakes her head too.
“What? It’s not my fault. It’s yours! He likes you…” I say wide eyed.
“I have to go. Thank you for a brilliant day, I’ve really enjoyed myself.”
I lean across and kiss her lips again, tenderly this time though. She smiles as I pull away then steps back from the truck.
I roll the window down as she shuts the door, “I’ll call you later babe!” Before she can tell me off for calling her that I take off down the road.
Walking in the house, I see that everyone’s here. Great! Todd, Chris and Taylor, even Aidan and Stacy are here. Hmm, what’s the occasion?
“Shit well, wonders will never cease. You remembered where we live then?” I say to my brother Aidan, who looks as happy as ever, grumpy fucker. If truth be known I’m not that keen on my sister in law, I’m polite - that’s it.
Aidan looks at me frowning, “What’s that supposed to mean?” he says like he doesn’t know.
“Um, I think that means you never come here,” I pause, “unless you want something,” I mumble under my breath. Taylor looks straight at me and smirks, she heard me if no-one else did - she knows.
“How was your ‘friend’ date, Ad?” Todd speaks over the crowd in the living room.
“It was good thanks. You should try getting a... ‘friend’.” I reply, laughing. He gives me the middle finger, making me laugh at him some more.
“You’ve got a friend then, Adam?” asks Aidan.
“You’d know if you made the effort to keep in touch more...”
“Oooh, tetchy. What you bitchin’ for?”
“Screw you,” I say curling my lip up. I don’t need this shit from him.
“Adam, Aidan, that’s enough. Can you not sit in the same room for long enough without bickering like a couple of girls?” Says Mum, forever the peacemaker. I raise my middle finger at him behind Mum’s back then sit on the sofa and Taylor comes to sit next to me.
“So, how was your date?” Taylor asks bumping her shoulder with mine as I look at her smirking, “I can’t wait to meet her!”
“No way, you’ll lead her astray!”
Taylor hangs her mouth open in shock. “Me?” she answers clutching her chest. “I don’t know what you mean.”
“Yeah ok…” I answer chuckling.
“How’s the new house, Taylor?” Stacy asks in her sickly, sweet voice. Ugh, I can’t stay here. As I get up I ruffle Taylor’s hair, I know how much she hates it.
“ADAM, FOR GOD’S SAKE!” Taylor shouts at me as I leave the room, I enter the kitchen still laughing and get a can of coke from the fridge.
I turn to see Chris leaning against the table, “Come on then, details. Did you take my advice?”
“I did. Until she kissed me on the cheek and then I knew she wanted me, I mean who wouldn’t?”
“Fuck off Adam, I hope you didn’t say that? Now drop the cockiness and talk to me.”
“I really like her... I did kiss her but like I said, it was only after she kissed me first. We had a really good time and I’m seeing her again.”
“See you can do it,” he says as I smile remembering the happiness on her face.
“We talked quite a bit, got to know each other a little bit more... it was good. She’s fucking hot man.”
Chris grabs me in a headlock, his form of affection until we get called back into the living room.
We walk in together and ask what’s wrong. Aidan then stands up and says he has an announcement.
“Oh, here we go…” I say quietly again.
“I thought we’d tell you altogether. Stacy and I are having a baby. She’s fourteen weeks along now.”
My Mum jumps up happily, goes to Aidan and Stacy to congratulate them. I’m happy for them don’t get me wrong. Aidan and I have always had the sibling rivalry and probably always will. I’m going to have to make sure my niece or nephew doesn’t turn into the devil’s spawn.
I watch as everyone take turns to congratulate them and then I do my bit. I shake Aidan’s hand and kiss Stacy on the cheek.
“I can’t wait to babysit. Uncle Adam will teach him or her a thing or two.”
Their faces are a picture as they realise what I said. I take that as a win and sit back down with a smug grin on my face. My work here is done!
DARCY
It’s Monday again. This has to be the worst day of the week. I have a look at the diary and see there’s not
much on for today… again. This place is sinking fast and I haven’t got a clue what to do about it.
When I got home from my date with Adam on Saturday, I was so happy. It didn’t last long though. Dad was grumpier than ever. Mum looked exhausted which then made me feel like shit for going out in the first place. I know it’s hard for Dad but he needs to snap out of this depression.
I don’t think he realises what he’s got in front of him. I know it’s hard on him that he can’t do what he used to do but seriously it’s beginning to take its toll, on all of us now.
Adam text me to say his family was at his so he’d ring me the next day, which I was glad of because once I’d helped Mum with chores I was knackered. I had a shower, jumped into bed and slept the evening away.
I did wake up to a ‘good morning’ text though which put a smile on my face. The rest of the day sucked balls though. Mum was at work all day which left me to look after Dad and cook the dinner. I swear I’ve turned fifty in the matter of two years. I hate this, but then I feel guilty for thinking like that.
Leaning back in my chair I close my eyes as a knock sounds at the door. Not looking to see who’s standing outside the door I shout, ‘come in.’
I
hear the door shut and slowly open my eyes to that velvet voice.
“Morning, thought you may like this?” Adam stands in front of me with a mocha latte from Costa in a takeaway cup and a double chocolate chip cookie. I sit up straight and smile.
“Ahh, can you read my mind?”
He smiles, “Maybe I can.”
“It’s early what are you doing here?” I ask confused.
“I have a meeting with the editor of the magazine, I thought I’d surprise you. You don’t look very happy though, what’s up?”
“Ugh, never mind I wouldn’t want to bore you with the details.”
He bends and pulls me up by the hands. He places his big hands on my shoulders and rubs them affectionately. “Come on, tell me.”
“It’s just this place, it’s not doing very well. We haven’t made a profit in months, not one that makes a difference anyway.” He lifts my head and to look him in the eyes.
“Can I do anything to help?”
I shake my head slightly. I don’t want Adam to worry this is my problem. I’ll have to fix it.
“Let me help to make it better.” Adam says as he places his lips on mine, my worries suddenly begin to fade. I’m just me; twenty-one -year-old, Darcy Ambrose. Who’s probably had two boyfriends in her life, having her worries kissed away by the gorgeous, self-assured man that is Adam Willows.
He lifts me to sit on the desk so that we’re nose to nose, I take advantage of being the same height for a few minutes. His lips touch mine as my hands go to his hard chest while he kisses me.
My hands trail up his chest to his neck, feeling his stubble under my palms; it’s a bit shorter today than it was on Saturday so he must have trimmed it to stay like this.
I open my mouth letting my tongue enters his mouth and dominate the kiss, he moans through the kiss but after a few moments he begins to pull away, after all we are in my office.
