Family Bonds- Hunter and Kayla (Amore Island Book 1)

“I thought his mother knew and told his father,” Amanda said.
“She did. But Hunter told his father that I worked at the Retreat and that is how we met.”
“So?” Bri said. “Are they annoyed or something over that?”
“Yeah,” Kayla said. “Well, his father wasn’t happy. The family reputation means a lot to them and his father threw it out there that his great-great-grandfather was with women that worked at the hotel. Or he used the hotel to house women he was with.”
“Hunter isn’t that way though,” Amanda said.
“You don’t know that,” Bri said. “Maybe he used to be and his father has reason to say that.”
“He’s not that way,” Kayla argued. “And his grandfather and sister are on Hunter’s side.” Kayla had finished off her first piece of pizza while they were talking so she reached for a second. “Anyway, so the important people know. I’m not telling any of my coworkers. They don’t need to know, but now Hunter wants to spend more time together. I jokingly said I could cook him dinner now before my shifts and he jumped all over it. He wanted me to do it tonight, but I said I had plans.”
“I think that’s great, Kayla,” Amanda said, lifting her glass up. “Cheers to you and the turn in your relationship.”
She thought that was an odd cheer, but went with it. Amanda always knew the right things to say.
Hunter was starting to doze on the couch but forced himself to keep his eyes open. Kayla would be coming up on her break at some point. He said there was no reason to text, to just come up. She didn’t need him to get to the penthouse anymore since she had the access code.
He must have fallen into a deep sleep because the next thing he knew there were hands on his face and lips against his.
He opened his eyes to see Kayla leaning over him, a big smile on her face.
“Maybe it’s a good thing it’s not so much a secret because you can’t seem to handle these late nights. Are you getting too old for it?”
He growled and turned quickly, had her under him, her laughter in his ear. “Not too old to put you on your back.”
“That’s good to know.”
“I’m not that much older than you,” he said, starting to feel a bit self-conscious when he never had before.
“One day, one year, twenty years, it’s still older than me. At least it’s not like Bri’s new guy who is fourteen years older than her. That’s too much.”
“Not even close,” he said to her.
“I’m just teasing you,” she said, her fingers trailing down the side of his face. She seemed much happier today than she had been the past week or so.
“So you’re doing better with things now?” he said. “Accepting that this doesn’t have to be some big secret?”
“It’s still on the hush hush,” she said.
“For a second there I thought you were going to say on the down low.”
She burst out laughing. “Do you want me to go on the down low?” Her hand reached down and cupped him. “I can do that you know.”
He gulped. “I want you to do what you want.”
“Well, we know I’ve got a big appetite. Maybe I’m hungry.”
She scooted out from under him, then nudged him on his back, her hands going for the elastic waist of his athletic shorts.
When she grabbed a hold of them he lifted his hips while she shoved them down past his knees, his large and yummy cock pointing at the ceiling letting her know he was as eager for her mouth as she claimed to be hungry.
“Look at you,” she said, her hand wrapping around him, her lips going right to the tip and closing around the rim. Not hard. Not soft. Just a gentle little kiss. Almost like a whisper with a promise of more.
And when her tongue came out and swirled around, licking up the dew that had escaped, he dropped his head back and realized that if he watched what she was doing he wasn’t going to last very long.
He wanted this to last.
Her tongue came out and licked up the side of him, down the other, her lips closing over him completely and taking him in. He could feel her tongue still swirling around as her mouth moved up and down, her hand going to his balls, squeezing and massaging.
A groan escaped and then he wondered why he was even trying to fight it back.
“That’s it,” she said. “If you don’t make noise, I won’t know if you like what I’m doing.”
“I like it. I could be dead and would still like it.”
“I’d bring you back to life,” she said before she went down on him again. This time she was moving up and down, slurping at him, her hands moving in conjunction with her mouth, the suction she was providing almost his undoing.
He tapped her on the shoulder, but all she did was lift her eyelids up, look at him and grin around her mouth, then went right back at it.
That was answer enough for him. He dropped his head back down and just let himself go. Let his body feel what she was giving him, what she was doing for him.
It didn’t take much before he was shouting out her name. She said she wanted him to make some noise so he wasn’t holding back. Why when it felt so good?
Afterward, he was lying there breathing in and out when he felt her slither up the length of him, then plant a kiss on his lips. “How was that?”
“That was pretty wonderful.”
“You’re pretty wonderful.”
He wrapped his arms around her. “You’re more than wonderful.” It was on the tip of his tongue to say he was in love with her, but he knew she might not be ready to hear it.

Toss That Up
At noon, Kayla turned and hit the alarm. As much as she wanted to sleep in longer, she was in the habit of getting up earlier knowing she’d be to bed a lot earlier too.
Plus it was the first weekend Hunter’s parents knew about her and though she still felt like there was a black cloud over her head, it was a little bit lighter knowing that secret wasn’t there.
The two of them hadn’t made definite plans yet other than they were going to spend time together. He said he’d pick her up around four, they’d get some dinner and decide from there. She was even planning on spending the night at his place.
She got up and grabbed her clothes to head into the bathroom and shower. When she was dressed and her hair dry, she walked into the kitchen but didn’t see anyone around. That was strange, as she thought at least Amanda was home.
She heard voices in the back and opened the door to see Sidney and Amanda sitting on the patio with a plate of snacks and some fruity drink.
“Come join us,” Sidney said. “We were talking so loud we came out here and hope we didn’t wake you.”
“What were you saying?” she asked, reaching to pluck some cheese and grapes off the plate, then sitting down.
“We were talking about Bri’s new man. I think he’s married,” Sidney said.
“Really? Why do you say that?”
“It’s the things she says about him. That they never talk during the week even though you know darn well she likes to cling to her men. They are together this weekend at his place, but last weekend he said he had plans and couldn’t make it.”
“That doesn’t sound so crazy,” she said.
“She offered a few times to meet him in Boston for lunch or last weekend and he makes up excuses,” Sidney said.
“Does she think he is married, or are you just guessing?” Amanda asked. “Because Bri never seems to see the bad in a man until they’ve shit all over her and then taken the last roll of toilet paper as they leave.”
Kayla started to laugh and then found herself gagging. “That’s gross.”
“It’s funny,” Sidney said. “And you know it’s the truth.”
“I suppose. She is always looking for the wrong things in men and ends up with losers. She thinks this guy is great because he has money and that’s all she sees.”
Kayla knew a lot of women like Bri and just figured they made their beds, they
could lie in them when they were full of torn stained stinky sheets in the end.
“She needs someone to take care of her,” Amanda said. “I’ve known her the longest and she’s always been like that. She’s dated more men in the time she’s lived here than I have in my entire life.”
Kayla wasn’t surprised to hear that. “She’s falling for the legend here, isn’t she? That people come here for love and she is trying to force it, do you think? I’d rather take care of myself. Not that I don’t appreciate the mom of the house cooking now and again. And what’s that on the tray there?”
Amanda moved the tray over. “Ham salad sandwiches. And yes, Bri wants what she wants when she wants it. Sidney and I aren’t looking for anything other than what’s to eat for our next meal.”
Kayla took one and bit into it, chewed and tried to swallow, but it wouldn’t go down. She started to gag and couldn’t stop and moved fast, throwing up in the bushes.
“Well then, I guess that means she doesn’t like your ham salad, Amanda,” Sidney said. “I told you there was too much relish in it.”
“Are you okay?” Amanda asked, moving closer and rubbing a hand on her back. “Let me get you some water.”
Kayla sat back down in the chair and put her head between her knees. When Amanda came back with the water, she took the cap off and guzzled it.
“Slow down or you’ll toss that up too,” Sidney said.
“I’m good. My mouth is so dry. My stomach is fine now. This is the weirdest bug.”
“How long have you been sick?” Sidney asked.
“I don’t know. Maybe a week. I thought it was nerves with everything going on with Hunter and his parents finding out and you know the story. I threw up at his place a few nights ago too but then was fine and ate my lunch. I thought it was the two grilled cheese sandwiches and a half a bag of chips I ate before work. They were kind of greasy and it felt like I was burping them up.”
Sidney laughed. “Too much information. So you only got sick that once?”
“Yeah. That’s the only time I’ve thrown up. I’ve gagged a few times though on things and then was fine.”
Amanda looked at Sidney and then back to her. “Are you pregnant?”
“What?” she said. “Of course not. We’ve been using condoms.”
“So?” Sidney said. “Nothing is a hundred percent foolproof except abstinence. Trust me, I’m not pregnant.”
“No action for me either,” Amanda said. “But I’m sure you and Hunter are going at it like bunnies in the backyard whenever you get some time alone.”
Kayla felt her face flush. “We don’t have that much sex.”
“Back to my question. When was your last period?”
“I don’t know,” Kayla had to admit. “I’ve never been regular before and never worried about it.”
The two girls looked at each other again and Kayla was starting to feel like her stomach was going to heave again from the fear.
“Have you had your period since you’ve been on the island?” Sidney asked.
She had to think for a second. “No.”
“That’s almost two months,” Amanda said. “And you’ve been seeing Hunter about six weeks right?”
“Something like that,” Kayla said slowly. “I can’t be pregnant. It’s just a bug.”
“Only one way to find out,” Amanda said. “You need to take a test. I’m going to go buy you one because I have a feeling you’ll become an ostrich lowering your head until we walk away.”
Kayla would do that. Not that it would change anything because she’d tried that enough in life. Burying her head until it went away. The sad part was, nothing ever went away.
She didn’t think she could be pregnant anyway.
“You don’t need to go get one,” Kayla said. The truth was she didn’t want to know. “I’m sure it’s fine. Like I said, we’ve used condoms. Don’t you think I’d know if one broke?”
“They don’t have to break,” Sidney said. “They could leak.”
This time Kayla felt light-headed and she put her head back down between her knees. “Oh God.”
“What?” Amanda asked.
“The first time we were together I kept thinking how wet it was. Everything was so slippery. But it felt like the AC wasn’t on in the room. Even Hunter was sweating and we laughed about it after.”
“Man, that must have been one hell of a session,” Sidney said. “I’m slightly jealous.”
“Don’t be jealous,” Kayla screeched. “Not if I’m pregnant. I can’t be!” She was shaking her head back and forth so fast she got dizzy and put it between her knees again.
“I’m running to the store,” Amanda said. “I’ll be back in about ten minutes.”
“Check our bathroom first,” Sidney said. “I think there is one hidden in the back. Bri had a scare a few months ago and she bought a few.”
Amanda shook her head. “I should have figured. Come on, Kayla. In the house. You’re going to pee on a stick.”
“Do I have to?” she asked, knowing there were tears gathering in her eyes.
“If you want to know the answer, you do,” Amanda said.
“I don’t though.”
“Too bad,” Sidney said. “I do.”
Kayla allowed herself to be pulled up and followed the girls into the house. There was a test in the bathroom so she shut the door and peed on the stick and then left it on the counter. She couldn’t stand there and stare at it.
When she was in the kitchen she grabbed a few cookies left over from yesterday and just started to eat them one by one. If any time called for chocolate it was now.
Amanda walked out of the kitchen, then came back and said, “Do you want to know?”
“Don’t play games with me. You know I’ve got to know.”
“It’s positive.”
Kayla burst into tears. “What am I going to do?”
“Looks like you’re going to be a mama,” Amanda said and walked over to hug her.
Sidney moved in and did the same. “We’ll be here for you.”
“Hunter is going to hate me,” she sobbed.
“Last I knew it took two to get in this situation. If that weren’t the case I’d have a few kids by now from the electric toys in my room,” Amanda said. “I don’t think he’ll be mad at all.”
“Even if he isn’t, his family will be. His family means everything to him. Oh, God. I made such a mess of things.”
“You didn’t do anything wrong,” Sidney said. “Relax. Things will work out. They always do.”
But not for her, they didn’t. Never in a good way and proof was the soon-to-be unexpected stork delivery.

Surprises Are The Best
Hunter rang the doorbell to Kayla’s at four. Normally she was walking out the door to greet him when he showed up, but today she was nowhere to be found. Maybe she decided it was time he met her roommates. He was fine with that.
The door was opened by a blonde-haired beauty with a smile as wide as the ocean. “You must be Hunter. I’m Amanda. Kayla is just running late and packing her things for the night. Come on in.”
“This is the first time she wasn’t ready for me,” Hunter said.
“We’ve been having some girl time and, well, we lost track of the clock.”
Hunter wasn’t sure what to make of the mischievous glint in Amanda’s eyes, but he wasn’t one to question it.
He stepped into the foyer and then off to the living room where another woman was sitting. “I’m Sidney,” she said from the couch. “Come have a seat and chat with us while Kayla finishes getting ready.”
Something told him he was going to get an inquisition. “So fire away,” he said. “I have a feeling you want to ask me something.”
Amanda laughed. “I’m the mom of the group.”
“You look like you are the same age as Kayla.”
“Ah, now you are just buttering me up. I’m a few years older,” Amanda said, waving her hand.
“Anyway, so what have you kids got planned for the night?”
“You don’t have to answer her,” Kayla said from the doorway. “They are just being nosy and are jealous because they’re both single.”
“We are,” Sidney said. “Jealous and single. Got any ride or dies you want to introduce us to?”
He liked her friends. They were pretty funny. “I’m sure you are aware I know a lot of the island.”
“We are. I’m out for fun,” Sidney said. “No commitments for me. I’m too young.”
She did look to be younger than Kayla. “I’ll keep that in mind.”
He stood up and walked forward when Kayla stepped in with a bag on her shoulder. “I’m ready. What did you want to do?”
“I thought we could get some dinner. I’d say catch a movie, but there isn’t anything playing that looks interesting. Don’t you work at a bar?” he asked Sidney. “We could stop in there and have a drink.” Kayla’s roommates looked at him oddly, then at her and he wasn’t sure what that was for. “Or not.”
“I’m heading into work in about thirty minutes,” Sidney said. “You don’t want to go there on a Saturday night. It’s for singles. No fun for a couple.”
“Maybe another night,” he said.
“Sounds good to me. Bye, ladies. I’ll see you sometime tomorrow night.”
“Have a good time,” Amanda said.
“We will,” Kayla said, holding Amanda’s stare for longer than he thought was normal.
He shrugged and put his hand on Kayla’s back and escorted her out of the house and to his car. “How about a walk on the beach again? It’s such a beautiful night and you seemed to enjoy it last time.”
“That sounds nice,” she said.
Little did she know what he had planned. He would have canceled those plans if she wanted to go have a drink at Sidney’s place of employment but thankfully it didn’t come to that.
“Do you mind going to the north side of the island?”
“I’m good wherever you take me,” she said, reaching for his hand and holding it. She seemed nervous for some reason and he wasn’t sure why.
