Logan nodded, looking over the map. This compound wasn’t too far away. He should call the team. He couldn’t go in here with just Farron and Celeste. Shit! Celeste couldn’t go in here. “Farron, what can we do about our lovely wife?”

Farron chortled. “Nothing. She goes with us.”

Logan’s gaze met Farron’s. Was he fucking serious? He was willing to put her in harm’s way? Possibly get her caught by those fuckers and abused and used in who knew what kind of manner? No fucking way in hell was he allowing that to happen. His jaw clenched and he swore he felt his canines emerge.

Farron offered a sincere smile. “She is trained. We all are. We are werewolves. We know how to fight, Logan.”

Logan shook his head. This woman would carry on the lines for two breeds. “She is too important to the people here.”

Farron smiled. “Yes, she is. As are we. If we are going to play that game we all might as well stay home and be safe.”

Logan growled. “I’m not liking your attitude, Farron. You think you would be more cautious of the woman who will carry your pups.”

Farron nodded. “I will be. As well as the life of the man she brought to us.”

Logan shook his head, his gaze rising at the sound of heavy footsteps. It was Fallon. “Father, tell your son to smarten up and think of his people.” Logan furrowed his brow. Did he just seriously call that man father?

Fallon grinned. “I would, but I would just be wasting my breath.”

Farron smiled, hugging his father as he reached the table they stood around.

“I have gathered a few men for you to take,” he informed his son.

Farron nodded and Logan shook his head. “No. Small amount of people. I want to scope the place out then figure out where to go. The fewer people we have the better.”

Fallon nodded. “Then we will wait.”

Logan nodded. “No, I will call my own people.”

Farron’s lip lifted in irritation. “You cannot just go inviting strangers to our homes, Logan.”

Logan’s gaze met his. “These people are not strangers! They are my family!” he clarified. Celeste’s warm hand came to rest on his hand and that was when he realized he’d let his claws out. He cracked his neck, not liking the loss of his emotions so easily. “I will not risk the people, Farron. My friends are trained to do this kind of work. I won’t even bring them here. I will give them coordinates to the compound and that is it.”

Farron studied his man’s eyes and after a few tense silent minutes gave a nod. “We go, then. No more talking. Let’s get this over and done with.”

  Chapter Seventeen

Logan looked over the compound, amazed at how much he could see with the naked eye. He could most definitely get used to this new werewolf thing. He saw soldiers hidden in the underbrush. Some up on turrets, armed and watching in all directions. He furrowed his brow. Normally he would camp out for a few days and watch. Just watch. He wondered if Farron and Celeste could handle lying in that state for days. He was pretty sure Ben could handle it. He kept his gaze on the scene before him, catching every little movement below. He hadn’t expected Ben to accept his invite to help scope the place out, but he was pretty sure Deni would want to know about this place and those inside.

Celeste narrowed her eyes and held in the annoyance after the fifth hour of lying on her belly not moving. Her lower back was starting to ache and her calves were cramping. She looked at Farron from the corner of her eye and saw his jaw tense. He was hurting, too. She peeked at Logan. Nothing, he just laid there his eyes watching, his breathing even and silent. She was sure, had someone come upon them, they would have thought he was dead from the lack of movement.

Farron stretched his toes, which pulled at the muscles in the back of his legs, giving him some relief. He watched as there was no movement. Two hours into waiting, there had been a change of guards. But since then it had been nothing but the ones on the turrets walking back and forth, guns ready to shoot any trespassers or possible escapees. The ones in the underbrush lay just as still as they did.

Logan motioned for Farron to back away slowly then Celeste to follow. He looked at Ben and saw that the big fellow was already backing away. All four slid inch by inch backward. Slow and steady. When they reached the bottom of the bluff Logan motioned for everyone to be silent and led them away from the compound. He’d not been there long enough to know the complete schedule. He would have to go back, but not with Farron and Celeste. They had been in pain the last hour and he had felt it. He wasn’t sure if he would ever get used to feeling his mates’ pain, their passion. Their anger and hurt. He had felt Celeste’s humiliation last night as they had taken her. It had been momentary but it had been there.

Farron hunkered down, pulling Celeste into his lap, his hands automatic on working the knots out of her shoulders.

“I will be going back with Ben. I need to watch for a day. I need to know the changing of guards,” Logan stated, opening his bag and handing out provisions to Celeste. “I want you two to stay here. You are not trained to lie for hours like that.” He looked at Ben for conformation of the plan and Ben gave a nod of agreement.

Farron nodded. He had to agree. “If we change form we will last a lot longer.”

Logan shook his head, breaking open a bag of jerky. “Nope. I have a feeling if these people saw you in form they would just come take you.” And right now he didn’t need that worry. “I need a few days to observe and watch.”

Farron nodded. He understood where Logan was coming from. He’d been worried when he’d first spotted the hidden place. Had worried about his people and their safety. Worried about Celeste and her people as well. “Celeste and I will hang back.”

Logan nodded, already separating their food rations up. He would stay in place and come back down when he had enough details to give to Harley.

Celeste paced back and forth, chewing her pointer fingernail. “How much longer, Farron?” she whined, stopping and looking at him as he sat back, his eyes droopy and his body at ease. His large shoulders shrugged. She rolled her eyes, going to him and sitting astride him. “Two days he’s been up there, Farron!” she hissed pulling his hair.

Farron growled. “Yes, and he could need another day or two. We give Logan the time he needs to make sure his team is in no danger when they go into that place.”

“There will be plenty of danger my team will encounter in that place.”

Celeste whipped around and a wide smile appeared on her face. Farron slapped her thigh and gave her a nudge to go greet Logan properly. She hopped up and ran to Logan, jumping up and circling her arms around his thick neck, her legs wrapping around his hips. She kissed one cheek then the other then his mouth and bit his neck.

“Ow! What the fuck was that for?” Logan growled, nipping her right back. The low, sultry growl that came from Celeste had his blood boiling. Bad enough his dick jerked to life at the first scent of her.

Celeste leaned back, sticking out her lower lip in the cutest pout he had ever seen. “We missed you,” she whined.

Logan offered her a cockeyed grin. “Farron should have kept you busy enough.” He walked toward their man, holding Celeste close and dipped, pecking Farron on the cheek. “I’ll be contacting my team tonight. I need to go to my safe house to do so.” He settled in next to Farron and held Celeste close. “I don’t want them to know the whereabouts of the people. We’ll do any transactions from the safe house in town.”

Farron nodded, his hand coming to rest on Celeste’s thigh. “And us?” Farron asked.

Logan shook his head. He didn’t want the team to know about Farron and Celeste. He didn’t want them to know about everyone else. He rested his chin on the top of Celeste’s head. “Understand… I protect what is mine.” He paused. Why the hell did he feel like his heart was shattering into a million pieces? “I know why my team is going after these people. I know what will happen when everything is said and done.” He paused in thought
and hugged Celeste close. “I don’t want them to know about you two. About the rest. I’m not sure what they will think of our species.”

Celeste’s head whipped around and she turned big eyes on Logan. He called them our people. He loved them! He was accepting his place among them. She looked at Farron. “We stay here then?” she asked, hoping Farron would argue with Logan and want to be a part of his scheme.

Farron sat in deep thought. They couldn’t leave Logan to fight this battle alone. “We will gather a few men and keep watch from higher up in the hills. If Logan needs us we will be there.”

Logan grunted. If he could have it his way he would lock them both up, but he was sure he couldn’t take Farron. “You will all stay back and let me and my team handle it all,” he ordered, hugging Celeste close.

Farron nodded. “We only intervene if you need assistance,” he assured him, his hand coming to rest on the back of his mate’s neck.

  Chapter Eighteen

Logan looked at the screen and a lingering feeling enveloped him. Harley and Roark were the first that he saw. In the background of the screen he could see Alisha and Jariko. His heart cringed with missing them all. “The three you wanted retrieved are under the surveillance of friends. Harley, you may have to step in on that one. You and they will understand each other better than I could ever begin to comprehend. I did scour the area and found a compound that needs a good house cleaning and retrieval.” Logan watched as Jariko stepped forward.

“How many?” Jariko asked, his arms crossing over his broad chest. Alisha snuggled up beside him, wrapping her arms around Jariko’s waist.

Logan raised a brow. It was good to see those two spitfires finally get together. “Many. I would be calling Laird and getting backup.”

Harley nodded, nudging Roark into motion. Roark was already on the phone making the necessary calls. “We’ll be up in two days. We’ll play for a while then we go in when we have the details we need.”

  Logan nodded. “Sounds good.”

Harley nodded, looking at those on her end and mumbling something Logan could not quite hear. When the room cleared he looked at her. “What’s up, Har?” he asked.

Harley sat back in her chair. “You’re different, Logan. What happened?”

Logan shook his head. “Nothing. I had a hard time with the three you sent me for. They are like you. But more evolved.”

Harley nodded. “I have had contact with the leader. I had sent Alisha and Jariko up but Ben sent them back, assuring us you were fine.”

Logan nodded. Good. He needed their help in this, too. After he was done talking to Harley, he had every intention of going to Ben and Rachel and Deni for help. He was sure the three would help free the others like them from the hands of those scientists. Logan stared at Harley, waiting for her to ask what she wanted. He could tell there was more on her mind. She had that stern set to her beautiful, perfect face. Her hands were laid out calmly before her and he just knew her brain was going over every scenario it could. “Deni mentioned something about shape shifters in the area.” She looked pointedly at Logan. “Want to explain anything to me, Logan?”

Logan raised a sceptical brow. “All is good this way, Har,” he answered in his usual calm tone.

Harley shook her head. “Wanna explain those points on your ears, sugar? Or the way your canines are just a slight bit longer and pointed than usual?” She leaned forward. “Logan, don’t you dare underestimate me. I am made to memorize every distinct feature of people. You have so many different changes that the naked eye cannot see but I see every one of them.”

Logan narrowed his eyes and he could feel a tingle in those canines she so nicely mentioned. She was threatening those he loved and there was no way he was going to allow that to happen.

“Deni tells me you were recruited into a small band of people?”

Logan’s upper lip twitched. He had no desire to share any information. Not even with his commander.

“You are aware we will find out anything we need to. You can tell us or we will search out where the hell you have been for the last few weeks.”

Logan fisted his hands and fought not to growl at Harley, fought not to let his claws emerge and rip the damn screen apart. “Just get here and I will fill you in on everything!” he growled, clicking on the keyboard before he lost control in front of Harley.

  * * * *

Logan huffed heavily, veering through the thickly treed area. He could feel the moon’s rays as they fought to reach him through the trees. Anger and worry tore through him as he recalled his conversation with Harley. He was sure she would not harm what was dear to him, but she had been gung ho on getting after the others. Would she take it upon herself to make herself the watcher of the clans? She had no right. They had survived centuries without her kind intruding on them. He came to a skidding halt at the sight of the large black wolf standing in the clearing he had been running to. His hot breath billowed around him in clouds of white as his heart rate slowed. He growled and slowly made his way forth to the wolf.

Celeste shifted from her form and waited for Logan to get to her. When he did, she shivered as he rubbed up against her and rounded her. Her hand ran through his thick hair. “Shift, Logan. I want you,” she begged, falling to her knees. He nuzzled her neck and she hugged him close. “Please, Logan… Shift. Take me,” she whispered into his thick hair, grabbing handfuls and pulling.

Logan yelped and nipped at her, drawing blood. He shifted and grabbed the back of her head and pulled her hair. “Bad Celeste!” he chastised, taking her mouth in a hungry kiss. “Where’s Farron?” he demanded breathlessly when he pulled his hungry mouth from hers, the throes of passion ripping through him. He needed his mates right now!

“He’s nearby. He wants to watch his man take his wife,” she purred, laying back, spreading her legs to him.

Logan growled at the carnal look in his wife’s eyes. He pulled her close, sliding her along the grass. He guided her to wrap her legs around his waist.

“We could feel your anger, Logan,” she rasped when he plunged into her wet cunt, sighing at the thickness of his cock filling her.

Logan grunted, his hips rocking against her. His fingers dug into her skin and he lost sight and sense of everything around him. All he wanted was this woman. To feel her around him, to hear her pant his name. To hear it come from her lips. He closed his eyes and pounded into her body with a frenzy he never would have taken with any other woman. He was a man starving for this woman.

“Logan! Oh God, Logan!” Her sweet tone broke him from his trance and he looked down at her. His claws had distended and dug into her hips. Shock filled him and he pulled from her.

“No, Logan! Keep going please!” she begged, pulling him back to her.

  “Celeste! I hurt you.”

She shook her head. “Please, Logan! Now! I need you now,” she begged, turning and going to her hands and knees backing into him. She bumped her ass against his groin. “Please, Logan. I’m starving for you!” she begged.

Logan growled, looking to the trees. He could see Farron’s glowing eyes out there. When his man howled to the sky Logan plunged back into his wife and took her with all he had. His hands grasping her hips as her wet cunt sucked eagerly at his dick. He could feel his balls tightening. He reached up, grabbing a handful of her hair and pulling her head back. Say my name, Celeste!” he ordered, slamming into her wet sheath, her cream oozing out. It turned her on to have him manhandle her. To have him command her. She cried out his name, urging him on. He quickened his pace, his balls slapping against her as his dick was clenched with her heat. He growled and his body arched as his cum spurted in jolts into her hot cunt.

Logan slumped against Celeste’s damp back. Her breathing was rapid and her heart even more so. He hugged her close and didn’t want to ever let go. “Fuck, I love you, woman,” he muttered against her ear.

Celeste panted, nodding. “I know, Logan. I love you, too.”

  “And I love you b
oth,” Farron’s deep voice said from behind them. He crouched and hugged his body around Logan. “We will come with you tomorrow. Celeste talked with Deni. You will need us to stand with you when your team comes.” He laid a kiss on Logan’s neck. “They will understand, Logan.”

Logan shook his head. “I don’t want you two hurt. I don’t want any of the others hurt.”

Celeste wiggled around till she faced him and cupped his face in her hands. “Deni, Ben, and Rachel won’t allow anyone to hurt us.” She kissed his lips and pulled back. “You won’t allow anyone to hurt us,” she said with conviction.

  Chapter Nineteen

Harley looked the two strangers over. She zeroed in on every distinct mark on them, her mind taking in every little piece of information. “Farron and Celeste,” she murmured, rounding them. She could see the points on their ears and feel an odd sense of animalistic stature to them. “Logan?” she asked, not sure what to think of the two people he had guarded with his body when everyone had entered.

“They are mine and I am theirs. If any of you so much as touch a hair on their heads—” He paused and couldn’t believe what he was about to say. “I will hunt you down and rip you to shreds till nothing is left of you,” he promised. A long, slow whistle came from behind him and he didn’t need to look to know it was Jariko.

“Wow. Little brother is in love, and wow.” He looked the two obvious werewolves over.

“He chooses to defend his new mates rather than stand next to his own comrades.”

Logan turned and glared at his comrade. “I stand next to you, Jariko.”

Jariko grinned. “But they are above us.”

Logan narrowed his eyes. “Yes,” he answered

Jariko chuckled, holding out a hand to Farron. “Name’s Jariko. Looking forward to having you on the team.”

Farron took his hand with a firm grip. “Celeste and I are looking forward to being a part of the team,” he announced.
