Carwyn made a face and Brigid laughed. “You’re fighting dirty, Murphy. I’ll tell him.”
Murphy glanced over his shoulder. “I’m being paged, so I have to go. Keep us updated and call Anne when you get the chance. She misses you.”
“I miss her too. Tell Tom and Josie I said hello.”
“Not Declan?”
“Fuck no. He knows I can’t stand him.” She smiled, knowing Declan was probably the one paging Murphy.
On cue, she heard him calling in the background, “I heard that, Brigid!”
She blew the screen a kiss. “Fuck off; I love you all.”
The screen and the speaker went blank. Brigid stared at the empty black rectangle, knowing that her life had just inextricably changed. She didn’t know what the next chapter would bring, but it would be different. It would be…

Carwyn was standing at the door, holding out his hand. “You ready to go?”
Brigid closed the computer and nodded. “I am.”
