Breakaway

I watch those eyes as they turn from happy to embarrassed when she realizes the point behind my question.

“Oh my god!” She hits my arm. “I forgot you had company,” she groans.

I chuckle and she slaps my chest playfully before rolling to lay on her back. Presley’s skin shines slightly and I can’t help but grin at how that thin layer of sweat is from us. As if realizing that she’s simply laying naked in front of me, she moves and quickly covers up.

“Hey,” I say low and seductively. I didn’t mean to, but the tone and words are out of my mouth before I can stop myself. “Why,” I kiss her shoulder, “don’t you stay here tonight?”

Presley turns her head to look at me and then runs a hand through her hair. She looks away from me, staring at my ceiling, and closes her eyes. I assume she’s thinking. What is there to think about anyway? All she has to do is say yes. I curve a finger around her chin and make her look at me. I can tell that she wants to stay, but something seems to be holding her back.

“I can take you home once the guys leave and the other two go to bed, if you don’t want to stay. Otherwise, they’ll say something. Well, Harper won’t, but Nichols definitely will.”

Presley always seems to make a decision after I’ve given her an out. Usually a decision that works in my favor. This time is no different.

“No,” she begins, rolling back to face me and placing her hands flat on my chest. “I’ll stay, but I have an early class tomorrow.”

“Okay, no problem.” I reach across her to where my phone is sitting on my nightstand. It’s been there since I came back from Presley’s. I enter my passcode and my messages pop up, showing she texted me. “What time?” I ask, switching to my alarm and setting it to six when she answers. “Hey,” I ask, thinking of where we are. “How did you find out where I live?”

Presley’s cheeks flush and she looks a little guilty. “Marley talked Jere into telling her. Why?”

I shake my head. “Don’t worry about it. You.” I smile as I get under the covers and pull her to me. “You’re going to be very happy and tired by the time you leave in the morning.”

She raises an eyebrow, pretending to be skeptical. “Oh, really?”

“Most definitely.” I end our conversation by kissing her, a plan already in my head. I shift and hover over her as those hands of hers grab on my upper arms and dig. Oh, that is so hot. Leaving her lips behind, I nip and nibble my way down her neck and chest. One hand grabs her breast and focuses on twisting and tugging her nipple between my thumb and forefinger. I take the other one into my mouth, swirling my tongue before biting down gently. Presley’s fingers leave their place to bury themselves into my hair.

I abandon her breasts and kiss my way down her stomach. The covers drag down with me and leave her exposed and beautiful. I look up at her to find that she’s watching me intently and hungrily. I grin and kiss her navel.

“Levi,” she breathes heavily yet breathlessly.

I have no doubt that she’ll be saying it more and louder throughout the night. I hook my hands under her knees and spread her wider for me. Presley’s already glistening as I lower my mouth, flicking my tongue so it barely touches her. Her breath catches and I begin to slowly devour her by sucking, grazing my teeth and working my tongue.

Presley writhes underneath me and I place my hands on her hips to stop her, making her moan. I assault her core with my tongue for a few minutes before removing one hand from her hip and inserting my finger. I smile against her when she groans and clenches around me.

“Oh my god, Levi,” she yells as I push in another finger and move them as roughly and as fast as possible. Presley hands grab a handful of my hair and I can feel her stomach tighten as she arches her back, bursting to pieces as she climaxes.

I pull out my fingers and lick her gently one last time. Her hands fall to the side and when I bring myself up to lay beside her, she glances at me with hooded eyes and a wicked grin. Her lips part to say something, but she’s interrupted by a banging on my door. I want to chuckle at her suddenly covering herself up, but the voice on the other side pisses me off.

“If she’s going to be yelling all night, y’all can go somewhere else,” Nichols hollers from the other side.

“Payback’s a bitch, Andrew,” is all I say to him.

“What are you talking about?” Presley asks, rolling to face me.

“He’s been loud when he comes home lately, that’s all.”

  She yawns and nods.

“Have I worn you out already?” I smirk.

She giggles and says, “For now, anyway.”

I wish I could say the rest of our night together was spent having sex, but after one more time, Presley was spent and fell asleep. I’ve only spent the night with one girl before. It was only once and it was with Sunny. Usually I leave once we’re finished. Waking up with Presley in my bed is so different from the experience with Sunny. For one, Sunny snores like a man and she doesn’t cuddle.

Presley, on the other hand, managed to get all of the comforter on her side and leaves me with only the sheet. I would probably be cold if not for her body intertwined with mine. Her naked body is so hot against mine and her hair seems to be scattered everywhere, across my chest, shoulder, and even a little on my face. I carefully reach for my phone, so I won’t wake her, but that’s when my alert starts blaring. I quickly turn it off, but it doesn’t even faze her.

“Smarty, wake up,” I say. No response. “Presley,” I call her name a little louder. She snuggles closer to me, something I didn’t even think was possible. I shake her shoulder a little and watch a sight I’ve never seen before. She rolls away from me, taking all the covers, and stretches, releasing a cute little groan. Her knuckles knock against my headboard and then she turns her head to look at me with such pretty, sleepy brown eyes.

“Morning,” she smiles lazily as she curls up into a ball.

“G’morning,” I kiss those pink lips quickly. “You’re a cover hog, you know that?”

Presley shrugs and hands over some of the comforter. “I better go,” she says while closing her eyes.

I laugh. “We do need to get up so I can take you home.”

“But if I get up, I’ll be cold,” she whines.

I shake my head and get up, pulling on a pair of boxers, gym shorts and then a sweatshirt. I grab Presley’s clothes off the floor and hand them to her. “Here. Get dressed underneath the covers so you won’t get cold.”

“That’s kind of sweet,” she says as she takes them. While grabbing my phone and keys off my nightstand, I watch as she wiggles on her clothes. Sweet, huh? When did I start being sweet to girls? Seductive or polite, sure. But sweet? That’s new. I try not to think about it as we both put on our shoes and I take her hand to walk to my car. It’s frigid outside and Presley rubs her hands together in my SUV until the heat blasts through the vents.

Something is off. It’s all I can think about as I drive to Presley’s. I keep glancing her way as she holds my hand in her lap, but she doesn’t notice because she’s looking out the window. I can’t pinpoint what it is exactly, but something isn’t right. It’s not until I’m standing outside of Presley’s door with my arms loosely around her as I give her a kiss that I realize what it is.

“When do I get to see you again?” she asks.

“Um, I don’t know. I’ll call you, okay?”

Presley nods and I can tell that she’s a little disappointed. I give her one more kiss and say, “I’ll call you tonight.” That seems to satisfy her. Once she’s inside, I leave to get ready for the day with my thoughts running rampant. What is wrong with me?! All I wanted was to get her to trust me, fuck her, and then leave her. I’ve accomplished the first two. I’m hesitant to just leave her, though.

If she hadn’t spent the night, called me sweet, or looked disappointed when I answered her question, this would be no problem. It shouldn’t even be a problem to start with actually. I like having her in my bed so maybe, I’ll keep
her around for a little while longer and annoy McCarthy while I’m at it. Win-win for all of us, right?

After my classes, I head to the rink early for practice. We’ve got two games this week and then two more next week, one of which is against JWU. Tomorrow’s game is against a tough team and Coach wants us ready. I don’t get to the rink as early as I’d like, but I have thirty minutes before anyone arrives. It’s just as magical to be on the ice alone as it is during a game with players everywhere and spectators yelling. Practice starts and Nichols is playing better than what he has been. Afterwards, Coach tells him he can play in the next game.

I want to hit him when he smirks at Jere. This is a team and he doesn’t need to boast about getting his spot back when he shouldn’t have lost it in the first place. Nichols should be happy, sure, but he doesn’t need to try and put down his teammate. I catch up to Jere in the hallway on the way out. He’s one of the last to leave again.

  “Hey, Jere.”

  “What’s up, Captain?” He grins.

“Don’t let Nichols get to you, alright? You’ve been playing really well and Coach has noticed. Keep doing what you’re doing and it’ll pay off.”

“He doesn’t bother me, but thanks. Are you heading to the gym?”

“Wasn’t planning on it, but I probably should.”

“Good. You can spot me,” he laughs.

We agree to meet there in twenty minutes. That’ll give me enough time to grab a quick bite to eat. I call my old man and check on him. He’s still coughing and when I tell him he should go to the doctor, he laughs. I’ll have to go see him soon, I guess. After that, I call Presley like I said I would.

When she answers, she’s laughing as she says, “Will you quit?” Presley’s laughter calms down and then she speaks to me. “Hey, Levi.”

“Really? You’re going to talk to him while I’m here?” I hear McCarthy in the background and smile.

“Hey, Smarty. Tell McCarthy I said hello to him too.”

“I am not. Be thankful he hasn’t stolen my phone from me yet. How was your day?”

  “Fine. Yours?”

“It went downhill after this morning,” she sighs.

I laugh. “I’m sorry about that. I’m on my way to the gym, but I figured I’d give you a call.”

“Want to come over afterwards? I can fix you a late supper?” she asks hopefully.

  “I just ate. Thanks, though.”

“Oh, okay. I’ll let you go workout then.” She sounds disappointed.

“Hey, Smarty?” I wasn’t planning on seeing her at all today, but I guess I can.

  “Yeah, Levi?”

“I’ll bring dessert if you miss me that badly,” I say with a smile.

“Ha, don’t kid yourself, Levi. But if you insist...”

I chuckle and say, “Oh no. If you want me to come over, you’re going to have to insist on it.” She’s silent for a second and I know it’s probably because McCarthy is there.

“Hey, Trev. Will you go check my mail? I forgot to check it earlier.” I hear her ask him. “Thanks.” A couple of seconds pass and I can’t help but grin as I wait. “Levi Whatever-Your-Middle-Name-Is Carr, I could kick your ass.”

“You started this, Presley,” I interrupt quickly.

“Iinsist that you come over, not for dessert, but so I can kick your ass.”

I snicker. “That’s all I wanted to hear. See ya, Smarty.”

  “Bye, Levi.”

I’m at the gym as I have been for the latter half of our conversation. Inside, I find Jere easily and we work out. He apologizes for handing out my address, and I tell him that it’s no big deal. Well, it is depending on how badly things end with Presley when I do leave her. I don’t need McCarthy showing up at my house, but I could handle him if he did, especially if Gavin and Andrew are there. Not going to worry about that too much, though. Instead, I focus on the task at hand, which is working out.

A shower and an hour and a half later, I’m heading to Presley’s after a little pit stop. The nights seem to be getting colder and colder. I rap twice on her door and wait. My fingers wrapped around the plastic cup holding a strawberry milkshake are frozen by the time Presley opens the door. She’s wearing sweatpants and hoodie again, but this time it has the Penguins logo on them.

“Aw, is that a strawberry milkshake for me?” she asks, clearly excited as she lets me in.

“I told you I’d bring dessert,” I say and hand it to her. Presley’s smile is breathtaking and she stands up on her tiptoes to kiss me, but I have to lean down in order for her to reach.

  “Thank you, Levi.”

‘It’s not that big of a deal. It’s just a milkshake, Smarty.’ That’s what I want to say, but I don’t. Presley takes my hand and tugs me into her living room to sit. I take a seat on one end of the couch and she sits on the other, propping her bare feet in my lap as she slurps her milkshake. The action takes me off guard at first, but I don’t pay it too much attention. She’s just getting comfortable.

“Why didn’t you have a good day?” I ask, noticing even her feet are cute with her red toenails.

  “Where do I even start?”

Presley goes into detail about her day. She tells me about how she didn’t do well on a paper, and she was upset over that. Then she had to tell Trevor she was still seeing me, and he wasn’t happy about it.

“Enough about my day,” she finishes the talk about her day as well as her milkshake and she sets it on the coffee table in front of the couch. “You’re good at that.”

“What?” I ask, wondering what she’s talking about.

“Massages,” she points to my hands. Apparently, somewhere during her conversation, I started massaging her feet.

“Did you doubt what these hands could do?” I raise an eyebrow and smile my lopsided grin. She shakes her head with a laugh. “Don’t you want to come to my game tomorrow?” If I’m not mistaken, JWU has a game tomorrow as well. McCarthy would be pissed if she missed his game to go to mine.

  “Trevor has a game tomorrow.”

“Okay. I just thought I could take you somewhere afterwards too, but it’s cool. I understand.”

“No, I’ll go. I usually go to all of his games, but I didn’t tell him I would go tomorrow. I’ll come to yours. Missing one game of Trev’s won’t hurt him.”

  “Are you sure?”

“Absolutely. Want to watch a movie?”

  “Sure.”

“We’ll just watch whatever’s already in the DVD player, okay?”

I nod and she turns on the TV and the DVD player. A Bourne movie is what we are going to watch. I have to say I’m a little surprised and impressed that that’s the last movie she last played. Presley starts the movie and turns off all the lights. When she gets back to the couch, she lays with her head in my lap. She sure doesn’t mind making herself comfortable, does she? After a second of hesitation about what to do with my hands, I decide to leave one on the armrest and place my other on her hip.

It’s about halfway through the movie. I notice her breathing has slowed and her eyes are closed. She’s fallen asleep. The flickering light from the television illuminates her face, and she looks so peaceful and beautiful. There has to be someway that I can get up without disturbing her. Well, if she sleeps as dead to the world as she did this morning, then I shouldn’t have any problem. I ease myself from under her head and off the couch.

I turn on the lamp and then go to her room. I flip the light switch to see that unlike myself, she doesn’t make her bed every morning. For some reason, that thought and the sight of her strewn covers makes me smile. I pull them out of the way to make room for her before going back to pick up her sleeping body. Her head falls backwards, and I try not to laugh at the sight of her hanging head. When I lay her down, those beautiful brown eyes flutter open.

  “Levi?”

“Just go back to sleep,” I whisper as I pull the covers up to her shoulders.

“Stay.” She’s already half asleep, so I co
uld leave without her knowing. When I walk back into the living room, I have a thought. If I leave, her door will be left unlocked. I can’t just leave her here like that. Of course, I have to stay. For her sake. Those are the thoughts that run through my mind as I lock the deadbolt, turn off the lamp in the living room, and return to her bedroom. With a flip of the switch, the room turns pitch black.

I pull out my phone to light my way to her bed. I don’t know if she has an early class tomorrow, but I don’t. After setting my alarm for seven just in case she does, I pull my shirt over my head while slipping off my shoes and take off my pants next. As soon as I crawl into her bed, Presley wraps herself around me as if a magnet was pulling her to me.

“Thanks,” she mumbles before quickly falling asleep.

Presley’s hair is soft against my chest, and I can’t resist touching it with my own fingers. It’s ridiculous how it has an almost silky feel to it. I wonder what she would look like if she put it up in a ponytail. She always wears it down. Does she not like to wear it that way? Why am I even thinking about this? I clear my head of such silly thoughts and soon drift to sleep.

  ~ ~ ~

These past two nights have been the best sleep I’ve ever had and I always wake up too soon. Groaning, I reach over and shut off my alarm, realizing that someone isn’t in my arms. Patting the space beside me, sure enough I’m alone. Where’s Presley? I frown at the thought because I’m usually a light sleeper and she’s managed to leave the bed without waking me up. It’s still dark in her room, so I turn on the lamp beside her bed and sit up.

Just then, little Miss Smarty walks in with only a towel wrapped around her body and her wet hair hanging on her shoulders. She’s holding the towel around her and a shirt in one hand. The towel barely covers her because her hip and leg are playing peek-a-boo with me.

“I didn’t wake you, did I?” she asks, walking into her bathroom as if she didn’t just pass me wearing only a towel.

“No. My alarm did. Why are you getting ready so early anyway?”
