  “Of course, you did.” He wrapped his hand around my finger and brought it to his mouth, kissing it. “There’s a reason you love cats.”

  My mouth opened to argue and then snapped shut. He was right. I loved cats. He was a cat, and I’d always loved him. I thought it had been a girlish infatuation, but when I’d seen him at my Uncle Zed’s place, all those feelings came rushing back a hundred times stronger. I scowled at him. “I should be mad at you.”

  “You should.” He kissed the inside of my wrist and then ran his tongue along the cut. “But you’re not.”

  I growled. “You’re so lucky you’re cute.”

  “No.” All humor evaporated from his expression, and he pressed my hand to his heart. “I’m lucky because I have you, Poppy Carlyle. I love you.”

  Whatever angst or doubt I’d had, melted. I swallowed past the lump that had formed in my throat. “I love you too, Jax.”

  “What do you say we go back to your place and get down to some serious bonding?”

  “Absolutely.” I scooted onto the seat. “But the phones get turned off.”

  He gave me a panty-sizzling smile. “Definitely.”

  Leaning in, he kissed me. It was gentle and full of promise. What we had was real and right, and I wasn’t about to spend the rest of the night second-guessing what both of us had always known. We were meant for each other.
