“I think it takes a special woman to be with a professional athlete, and I’ve wondered if I have what it takes to be that woman for you.”

“Of course you are, Cecily. You’re my little firecracker. You can do anything.”

I loved that he was certain about it, but I wasn’t quite as confident. “It strikes super close to my baggage from past relationships. Not that you should have to pay for other people’s mistakes, but it’s made me cautious.”

“I’m not going to play hockey forever, though.”

“I know that,” I sighed. “Eventually you’ll get injured or decide it’s time to retire. But who knows how many years away that will be?”

“One or two more, at most.”

“What?” I asked, rearing backwards in surprise.

“My plans for after graduation never included a professional hockey career,” he explained. “If Luka hadn’t gotten me into that showcase that led to training camp and my position on the team, I would have gone to work for my mom. Possibly in the hotel we’re in right now.”

“But how do you know it’ll only be a couple of years before you do that?”

“I promised my parents I’d take on a role at Cameron Hospitality by the time I turned twenty-six. Since I’ll turn twenty-four in April, I only have two more seasons until then.”

I beamed a big smile his way, feeling relieved to know the professional athlete issue had an expiration date. It made it easier to believe I’d be able to support him without letting my baggage get in the way, but I would never have been able to bring myself to ask him to stop playing because of me. “And if you guys make into the playoffs that season?”

“Then my parents will wait a couple of extra months because I’d love to drink champagne from the Stanley Cup—off the ice, with you, naked. In fact, I think I’m going to have to add it to the list.”

I wrinkled my nose, liking everything about that fantasy except one thing. “That doesn’t sound very sanitary.”

“Don’t worry. I’ll give you something to wash your mouth out afterwards.”

His hips surged upwards, pressing his hardness against me, and I knew exactly what he was referring to.

  “You’re horrible,” I laughed.

“No, what I am is ready for make-up sex. Tell me the rest so we can get to it.”

“The only other thing is your age and wondering if you’re ready to think about building a life with someone else.”

He twisted, turning us until my back was against the couch cushions and he was hovering over me. The humor from seconds before was gone from his face, and his blue eyes burned with intensity.

“I can’t change the age difference between us, but it’s not like I’m a teenage boy. I’m a man, and I know what I want. You.” His lips crashed against mine for a passionate kiss that left me breathless. “I love you.” He kissed me again. “And we’re going to build a life together, even if you aren’t ready to admit you love me, too.”

  “I do,” I whispered.

His palm cupped my cheek as he pressed his forehead against mine. “Tell me. I need to hear it.”

  “I love you.”

His eyes drifted shut for a moment as he absorbed the words. When they opened again, they were practically glowing with happiness. “Make-up sex time,” he growled, his fingers deftly working the buttons of my blouse.

“Save it for the next time we fight,” I said, pulling his T-shirt over his head. “Right now, I want to be loved. Soft and easy, while we show each other how much it means when we come together.”

“Fuck, firecracker,” he groaned. “I don’t know if I can give you what you’re asking for. I’m dying to be inside you, but I’ll try my hardest.”

I shoved his athletic shorts and boxer briefs down his legs while he got me out of my skirt. He still had my bra and panties to go, but he was gloriously naked and I took full advantage of it. I stretched my neck up and settled my lips against his neck, licking at his skin in short, flickering strokes.

“Salty,” I murmured, with a hitch of breath as his hands cupped my naked tits.

He lifted away from me. “I haven’t had the chance to shower after my run. Want to move this into the bathroom?”

“Fuck that,” I grunted. “I plan on you getting sweaty with me anyway.”

“I thought you said slow and gentle,” he teased, nipping at my thighs as he slid my panties down them. My pussy clenched in need.

“Think of it as a marathon, not a sprint. You’ll have plenty of time to work up a sweat.”

I arched my back so he could unclasp my bra and pull it off me. We hadn’t even done anything other than undress each other yet, and my breaths rasped from my chest harshly already. The sex between us had always been amazing, but knowing he loved me brought it to a whole new level.

“I love your body,” he whispered as his lips trailed along my collarbone. “A marathon sounds fucking fantastic to me because I could kiss your skin for hours. It’s so soft.”

His naked body was braced above mine; the long, thick length of his cock pressing against my thigh. Where I was soft, he was hard. I ran my hands along the bunched muscles of his arms. Across his broad shoulders. “You aren’t going to get any arguments from me as long as I get to do my fair share of touching and tasting, too.”

“Explore away, baby. I love having your hands and mouth on me.” I scraped my nails down his back, making him shudder. “Almost as much as I fucking love having mine on you.”

He bent low and licked at my nipples—his lips closing on them, and his teeth rasping the delicate points. My entire body clenched as the tugs of his mouth sent shockwaves from my tits straight to my core.

I whimpered his name, and he moved lower. His lips trailed down my stomach, his tongue licking across my skin as he skimmed it across my hip bones and then drifted to my thighs. His fingers dug gently into my skin, parting my legs. “I love how wet you get for me.”

His tongue stroked gently along my pussy lips, curling between them. It left me aching and begging for more. “Please, Jason.”

He lifted his head, his blue eyes sparkling with mischief but also full of the heat of his desire. “You wanted slow and gentle, remember?”

I parted my legs wider until one foot was resting on the floor, jerking my hips up at the same time. Then I thrust my fingers through his hair to push his head back down. “How about fast and gentle instead?”

“Whatever you want, my little firecracker,” he whispered before dragging his tongue through my wetness. His movements weren’t any faster than before, but he didn’t mess around when it came to forcing me close to the edge of a climax. When his tongue reached my clit, he sucked it into his mouth. My hips lifted all the way off the couch as he flicked his tongue in a slow and steady rhythm, applying pressure on the swollen and sensitive flesh.

“Yes!” I arched closer as I quickly began to spin out of control. It was all I could do, to hold on to him as he unraveled me. When a thick finger sank knuckle deep inside me, my breaths came out in little pants and my body tightened. His mouth continued to work my clit as his fingers plunged in and out of me at a lazy pace. The slow, deep thrusts into my pussy built me higher and higher, until I was writhing beneath him.

“So fucking beautiful like this,” he growled against my damp skin. “But I want to see you fall apart for me. Now, Cecily.”

He increased the suction of his mouth, and his plunging fingers sped up. Slow was sacrificed to his drive to make me come, and it was absolutely worth it because it worked like a charm.

“Jason!” I screamed as I felt my release explode over me. He licked me through it, his fingers moving slowly again, until I collapsed against the couch cushions.

“I love you so fucking much, but gentle is going to have to wait for another time because I need you hard and fast now.” He rose to his knees and sank the full length of his cock deep and hard inside me with one powerful thrust.

My legs wrapped around his thrusting hips, and
my nails dug into his shoulders while he pounded into me with long, hard strokes. His bright blue eyes darkened to a midnight blue, and sweat started to drip from his body as he drove into me over and over again. My body started to coil tight again, my pussy clenching at his invading length, trying to hold on to him each time he retreated, and sucking him in when he thrust again.

I’d barely recovered from the first climax when the second tore me apart. My vision darkened, and my cries echoed off the walls around us. Jason pressed inside one last time, planting himself deep as he groaned above me.

I wanted to hold on to him, but I felt like a limp noodle. My arms fell from his shoulders, and my legs dropped onto the couch cushions. My heart was racing, and I could barely catch my breath. Jason’s chest was heaving as he dragged in deep breaths, but he had the strength to pull me into his arms and roll me on top of him so we could cuddle on the couch together. I pressed my ear to his skin, listening to the thundering of his heart until it settled to a steady rhythm.

It had been one hell of a morning, but I wouldn’t have had it any other way because the end result was me being able to share this moment with Jason. “I guess the only thing left for me to figure out is what I’m going to do about a job.”

“I think that’ll be easier than you think,” Jason chuckled. “Stan asked me yesterday if you’d consider leaving your job to come work for him, and my mom is planning to offer you a job, too.”

“Nice,” I murmured, smiling widely. I was still in shock a little that I’d actually quit my job, but it was great knowing that I had two more opportunities lined up without even trying. “A girl likes to have choices.”

His arm tightened around me. “As long as you aren’t expecting a choice when it comes to guys.”

“Nah,” I laughed. There was something about his caveman routine that made me happy, letting me know he needed me as much as he wanted me. “I already made mine there. You’re it for me, and I’m it for you.”

  “Damn straight,” he agreed.

“Which is why I think I’ll take the job with Stan for now, so I can travel with you until you’re done with hockey. I’ll ask your mom if I can make the same deal with her that you did and go to work for her when you turn twenty-six.” It truly was the perfect plan, making the next two years of loving a professional athlete less daunting since I’d be by his side more often.

  “Sounds perfect to me.”

“Do you think your mom will be okay with it?”

“As long as we’re happy, she’ll be fine,” he assured me. “And if she gives you a hard time, just remind her that you’ll be part of the family by then. The rule is that there’s always room for family at Cameron Hospitality.”

I pushed up onto my elbows and stared down at him. “Wait! What?”

“You love me.” His tongue speared into my mouth, tangling with mine as he kissed me soft and deep. “I love you.” His lips claimed mine again. “I just took you bare.” He swallowed my startled gasp in another kiss. “You’re going to marry me. Take my name. Carry my babies. Build a family with me.”

“Are you proposing to me?” I gasped.

“No, baby. You’ll know when I’m proposing because I’ll be down on one knee with a ring in my hand. For now, I’m just telling you to expect it to happen sooner rather than later.”

Holy shit. I liked that a hell of a lot more than I should have. “How soon is soon?”

“Fuck it,” he growled, standing up with me in his arms and carrying me to the bedroom. He dumped me on the bed and yanked open the drawer on the bedside table. Tears filled my eyes when he pulled out a jewelry box in a familiar robin’s egg blue color. “You met my mom, found out my secret, and lost your job today. But you also forgave me, we said ‘I love you’ to each other for the first time, and you decided on which new job you want to take. I might as well give you one more thing to celebrate.”

He dropped to one knee by the side of the bed and opened the box. The tapered baguette side stones drew my eye towards the sparkling, round brilliant center diamond set in platinum. My gaze stayed locked on the beautiful ring as he plucked it out of the box and slid it on my finger. “Marry me.”

It wasn’t really a question, but an answer slipped past my lips anyway. “Yes.”

He dove onto the mattress, tackling me. “Now that I’ve felt your tight, wet pussy wrapped around me, I want to take you bare all the time,” he whispered in my ear. My pussy clenched as my biological clock roared to life. “So do me a favor and don’t make me wait too long before the wedding. Okay?”

I didn’t make any promises, but only because my mouth was busy doing other things. We were celebrating our engagement, after all.

  Epilogue

  Jason

I scanned the crowd of our family and friends. There were more people than we’d originally planned on having, but it was still a small group considering why we were all in Vegas. I bent my head and whispered into Cecily’s ear, “You sure you want to do this?”

Her head whipped in my direction. “Yes! Why? Are you getting cold feet?” she asked, her gaze clouding with worry.

I grabbed her hand, lifting it to my lips and kissing her finger just above the ring I’d placed there six weeks earlier. “I can’t wait to put my wedding band below this one.” Her eyes lit with relief. The silly woman actually thought I was having second thoughts. “There isn’t a single cold thing about me when it comes to you.”

“Then maybe I’ll have to rethink my nickname for you, ice man.” She leaned into my side, smiling up at me.

“I’ve got the perfect one you can use.” I tilted her head back and captured her lips in a deep kiss. “Hubby.”

“Fourteen hours and counting,” she sighed, cocking her head to the side. “Why did you ask me if I was sure, though?”

“Our list shouldn’t be limited to sexual fantasies.” I grinned wolfishly, thinking about everything we’d crossed off and the new things we’d added. “I want you to have the wedding of your dreams, too.”

“As long as you and I are there, then it’s exactly what I want,” she reassured me.

I gestured around the restaurant. “I thought maybe you’d want something bigger than this.”

“It’s not like we’re getting hitched in a drive-thru wedding chapel tomorrow,” she pointed out. “We’re only in Vegas because I fell in love with this property when your mom showed me pictures of it. It’s the perfect place, with the people I want surrounding us, and exactly the right time—the one year anniversary of the night we met.”

I slid my hand over her belly, thinking the timing was perfect for another reason as well. I’d been true to my word, fucking her bare ever since the day we’d gotten engaged. Considering how often I was inside of her, it wasn’t a surprise to either of us when her period was late a couple of weeks ago. The plus sign on the pregnancy test she’d taken in a hotel room in Pittsburgh the night after we’d been knocked out of the playoffs more than eased the sting of the loss.

I’d wanted to shout it from the rooftop, but I promised Cecily I’d wait until after we were married to share the news. She wanted to keep it between the two of us until then. Little did she know that I had pink and blue bubble gum cigars to hand out to everyone at the reception. Since nobody else was in on the secret, I’d spent a lot of my night helping her hide the fact that she hadn’t drunk a single one of the shots her friends had shoved into her hand. Nobody had caught on yet, but when they did I planned to play the over-protective fiancé card and drag her up to our room. It wouldn’t surprise anyone considering how I usually acted around Cecily—and how drunk almost everyone else was.

“Enough of that, you two!” Alec tried to pull me away from Cecily. “You’ve got one more night of freedom. We should hit the Strip and close the bars down. This is basically your bachelor and ette party!”

Andrew and Josie were right behind him, and Andrew didn’t look happy about his brother’s suggestion. “You can count us out. My wife needs her rest
.”

  “Rest, right,” Josie snorted.

“I think I could use some rest, too.” Cecily burst into a fit of giggles. “A lot of it.”

“You guys are more than welcome to use the limo to go do whatever you’d like, but my bride and I are going to head up to our room for a private, co-ed party. Just the two of us.”

“Anyone else want to go out and celebrate without the bachelor and bachelorette?” Alec asked.

As we headed up to our room, Alec and Ryan made plans to hit the Strip with a few others from the group. I didn’t care what they got up to, as long as it didn’t interfere with our wedding plans for the next afternoon. And they didn’t; the ceremony went off without a hitch. But the unexpected plus one Alec needed us to add to the reception was a bit of a shocker.
