“I think that’s all I need.” I say and stand up. “Christopher, can you come in here?”
I wish Josh could have seen the look on his father’s face when he realized he’d been played. I know he thought he was too smart to be taken down, but his lust and greed clouded his judgement enough for me to fool him. I’m quite proud of myself, and I straighten my spine and stand a little taller.
A call comes in on his cellphone. I thought it was strange that he took a call in the middle of this, but it occurs to me that it must be Annabel. By the crestfallen look on his face, it becomes obvious that Josh’s mission was a success as well. I can’t wait to get back and have Josh fill me in on the details.
“I guess you understand now that you’re done. Josh wants you to leave the country and never, ever come back.” I have zero intention of letting this scumbag skulk out of the country to continue his antics somewhere else, but I’m curious to see what he has to say.
“You’re a dumb bitch, you know that? I’ll just bide my time and come back eventually. How much will you have to lose in ten years? Do you really think you’ll be able to keep your children safe from me? Maybe you’ll have a little girl, and her grandpa will have to pay her a special visit.”
Do not claw his eyes out Zoe. I have to keep repeating that to myself to maintain my composure. I’ve already got him, and now he’s trying to push me over the edge so I do something stupid. He knows he’s done for, and he needs me to slip up. I won’t give him the satisfaction.
“Oh, I was hoping you’d say something stupid. See, I know that even if you leave, you’ll keep hurting women and so does Josh. I never had any intention of doing anything but turning you into the police.” I say and smile triumphantly. “Christopher, please make sure that your connections in law enforcement get the recordings from my wire and Josh’s as well. We wouldn’t want Annabel to feel left out.” I say to my bodyguard.
“It will be my pleasure Ma’am.” He says.
“Now who’s the dumb bitch?” I say to Andrew as Christopher and I leave.
Chapter 20
Josh
I fill the partners in on everything during the afternoon meeting, and they agree to stand by me. My father and Annabel are arrested at the airport later in the evening, and it looks like they’ll be going away for a long time. Stacey is going to press charges too, and apparently several more women have come out of the woodwork to tell their stories about my father’s attempts to hurt them. I finally feel like I can relax. I don’t remember a time when I felt so safe. Now, I’m ready to leave the past behind me and start my life with Zoe.
Cadence wants to move in with Stacey since Zoe won’t need to live with her anymore. She’s ready for a fresh start too, and now that she’s safe, I can stop being so protective of her. Besides, I got the honor of meeting Princess recently, and I don’t think anyone will mess with the girls as long as that beast is around. I’ve offered her a part time job in the firm while she attends school, and she’s enthusiastically agreed. Stacey and Cadence leave Zoe and me alone so they can start packing up Cadence’s things.
“I guess I can move back into my apartment now.” Zoe says as she watches the two other women walk down the hall.
“Oh, I don’t think so.” I say, but she hasn’t turned around to see that I’m on one knee yet.
“What is that supposed to mean, Josh?” Zoe says and whips around like she’s about to lay into me yet again, but she gasps and covers her mouth with her hands when she sees me on one knee.
“It means you’re going to be my wife, so you can just live here from now on.”
“Is that supposed to be a proposal?” She says sarcastically, but she takes a big step towards me.
“No, baby. I’m not asking. I’m telling. You’re mine for the rest of our lives, so come over here and get this ring so I can get up off the floor.” I say and pull the five-carat canary yellow diamond ring from my pocket.
“Fuck me. Oh my God. Josh. Are you for real? Is that for me?” She says and sticks her hand out.
I slip the ring on her finger and stand up. “Yes baby. You can have anything you want. I’ve told you that. But, I have to know, when you said fuck me, was that a request?” I ask and pull her into my arms.
“I’m not asking.” She says and bites my bottom lip.
“Yes Ma’am.”
Epilogue
Zoe
Three Months Later
Three months was barely enough time to plan a wedding, but Josh made sure that I’m getting everything I want. We’re getting married on a beach in the Caribbean, and it’s like a dream come true. Stacey and Cadence are my bridesmaids, of course, and I’m pretty sure the two of them met a couple of promising prospects during the few days we’ve been on the island getting everything ready.
Josh sneaks into the hotel room where I’m getting ready for the ceremony, and I want to strangle the insufferable ass.
“You’re not supposed to be here.” I warn him.
“Baby, I do what I want. You haven’t figured that out yet?” He responds and walks up behind me. He wraps his arms around me, and as I look at the two of us together in the mirror, I figure now is as good a time as any to tell him.
“Well, Big Daddy, you won’t be doing whatever you want for much longer.” I say.
“Oh, you think being married is going to change me?” He says and kisses my bare shoulder.
“No, baby. I think being a daddy will, though.” I say and place his hand over my belly.
A few tears spill over onto Josh’s cheeks, and I see my bad boy crying openly for the first time. He picks me up and carries me down to the beach. Josh sets me down in front of a shocked audience and an even more stunned priest.
“Right now, Father. Make us married right now. I’m not waiting one more second to make this woman my wife.”
