Kaily grabbed on to him tightly and buried her head in his chest. It may not have seemed like it, but she was very grateful for Orlando. It seemed like he had come back into her life right on time and hadn’t left her side since.

“It’s alright ma, I got you,” Orlando said as he kissed the top of her head.

After they were done in the shower, he led her to the kitchen so that she could eat because he already knew she hadn’t ate anything all day. “What you want to eat?” he asked.

“Whatever you cook, I’ll eat,” she answered.

“Cool, let’s see what we have,” he said as he opened the freezer and refrigerator.

“Thank you,” Kaily said just above a whisper.

“You don’t have to thank me, I know if I don’t cook, we won’t eat. You always hated cooking.”

Kaily chuckled a little. “Not that, thank you for being here for me. I don’t know a lot of people who would have stuck around.”

“Aw girl, you definitely don’t have to thank me for that. When we were young, I told you I would always be there for you. We had a spat over some bullshit but since I’m back now, I can make good on my word and show you that I’m not all talk.”

“I know you’re not all talk. If you were, I never would have gave you a chance in the first place.” She smiled.

“Quit lying to yourself, you took one look at me and fell in love. All I had to do was smile at you and it was a wrap after that,” Orlando laughed.

“That is not true. I mean, you may be a little cute, but that wasn’t why I gave you a chance.”

“Whoa, hol up. Did you just say ‘a little cute’? Girl, cute is for babies and puppies. I’m a grown ass man, and a sexy one at that. That’s why you couldn’t resist me.”

Kaily couldn’t help but to bust out laughing at him. It had been a while since she had the chance to laugh, but it felt good. She really needed that. “If I’m not mistaken, you were the one who begged Kaison to talk to me and to give me a chance. He came home every day, telling me his homeboy wanted me and wanted me in the worst way.”

“Oh shit, no you didn’t go there. I didn’t beg, shit. I just told him to find out what was up,” Orlando laughed. That was all he could do, knowing he used to ask Kaison damn near every day to hook him up with Kaily because she was the meanest girl in the neighborhood and all the other boys were scared of her except him. He loved a challenge and that’s exactly what she was. In the end, it paid off because he got her and left everyone wondering how he did it.

Since Angel was so hardheaded and just had to work, Kaison decided he and Keymani would take Angel some lunch so she could eat. Ever since she opened her salon, it had been mad busy. So busy that sometimes she wouldn’t be able to eat until she got home later that day. Kaison didn’t like that, especially with her being pregnant, so he would drop off food for her to eat.

As expected, the salon was packed when they got there. Angel had her back towards the door so she didn’t see when they walked in. Kaison put his finger up to his mouth to let Keymani know not to say anything.

He walked over to her and covered her eyes. “Guess who,” he smiled.

“Ohh please tell me God answered my prayers and sent Michael Ealy to me,” said Angel.

“Say what?” Kaison said as he removed his hands and that got giggles from all the other females.

Angel turned and looked him from head to toe. “You’re not Michael, but I guess you’ll do,” she joked.

“Girl, please, Michael Ealy ain’t got shit on me.” Kaison smiled as he kissed her lips.

“Here Mommy! We brought you lunch.” Keymani smiled as she held the bag up for Angel to grab.

“Thank you, sweetie pie.” Angel smiled as she bent down so she could kiss Keymani’s cheek and Keymani did the same in return.

The bell rang to indicate that the front door had opened and everyone’s attention went in that direction. In walked Deonte and all the females in the shop eyes were glued on him.

“What’s up y’all?” he spoke while giving Kaison a brotherly hug.

“Shit, what’s going on your way?” Kaison asked.

“On my way to your sister’s crib to make sure her ass in the bed like she supposed to be,” he answered.

“Hi, Uncle D-Boy,” Keymani said excitedly.

“Hey, lil mama,” he said as he picked her up and hugged her tightly as she giggled. “Angel, I need a favor from you.”

“You need me to braid your dreads for you?” asked Angel.

“Actually, I been thinking about cutting them off.”

Angel eyes got big as saucers when Deonte said that. She never would have imagined that he would want to cut his dreads off. “Umm, okay. I can do it for you now if you would like,” she said.

  “You sure?”

“Yea, I don't have another client for two hours, so I can get you together real quick,” answered Angel.

“Aight, thanks sis. You go ahead and feed you and the baby and I'll be outside,” Deonte said as he put Keymani down. He and Kaison watched as the two ladies walked to the back where Angel’s office was located. “I can't wait for Kaiah to get that big.” Deonte smiled at the thought of his daughter.

“Come holla at me for a minute,” Kaison said as he nodded his head in the direction of the door. The two walked outside and stood in front of the shop. “What's up?” asked Kaison.

  “With what?” Deonte asked.

“You and Kay Kay? Y'all decided to stop bullshitting and get it together or what?” Just like everyone else, Kaison believed that his sister and Deonte belonged together. Yea, they both did some dirt but that was in the past. When they were together, they brought out the best in each other and were genuinely happy, so he wanted them to work everything out and get back together.

“Kaison, you know better than anyone how stubborn your sister is. She’s not going to do shit unless she really wants to. I haven't heard her bring up the divorce anymore, so I guess I'm making progress. The only thing I can do is show her how much I love her and go from there,” said Deonte.

“Yes, I hear you. But what about that other thing? You know I don't appreciate that bitch putting her hands on my sister like that. That was really uncalled for and she could have seriously did some damage,” Kaison said, letting Deonte know he was pissed.

“I feel you man, don't even trip. Imma handle that without a doubt. I'm just as pissed as you.”

“Aight man, I'm rooting for y'all though. I know y'all gon get it together, I have faith.”

Kaiah hated the fact that her doctor had put her on bed rest for the simple fact that she hated sitting on her ass all day, but she understood that it was for the safety of her baby. Since Synai was at school and Shauntez was somewhere doing only God knew what, she had the house to herself.

She heard the front door close and keys hit her glass table and she automatically knew who it was. She climbed out of bed and tiptoed her way down the stairs. When she reached the living room, she didn't see anybody. She knew she wasn't tripping, so she started towards the kitchen.

“Nosey ass!” Deonte said from behind her, scaring her.

“Ahhhh! Tae don't scare…” Her mouth fell open when she turned to look at him. He chuckled at her before walking over to her and carrying her up the stairs. “Your dreads, they're gone!” Kaiah finally got out as he laid her on the bed.

“What, you don't like it?” he asked.

“I loved the dreads but you look—“ Kaiah had to cut herself off before she said the wrong thing. She was about to tell him that he looked sexy as fuck and was making her panties wet.

“Nah, don't cut it off, say what you gotta say.” Deonte smirked.

Kaiah rolled her eyes. “You aight.” She waved him off.

Deonte laughed at her. He walked over to the bed and grabbed both of her wrists in his right hand while he used his left hand to slide down her shorts. Kaiah shuddered as she tried to stop him. It had been a ve
ry long time since she’d had some and he was playing. He inserted his middle finger in her pussy and smiled at her devilishly.

“I'm aight, but ya panties are soaked and you're wet as fuck,” he said as he worked the finger that was inside her.

“Stop, Tae,” Kaiah said. She thought she said it firmly, but it came out more as a moan.

He let her wrists go but didn't make any effort to remove his finger. He found Kaiah’s spot and moved his finger as if he was telling her to come here. Her eyes rolled in the back of her head as she opened her legs wider. Off of instinct, her hands traveled to his belt buckle.

Deonte slapped her hands away and before she could even react, she started to cum. “Ooooh, shit!” she hollered out as she released her juices all over his hand. She slowly fell backwards on the bed while Deonte went to the bathroom to wash his hands. He glanced back at Kaiah and smiled. He knew exactly what his wife needed and he’d be damned if he let her get it from another nigga.

He walked back into the bedroom and kicked his shoes off before climbing into the bed. He pulled Kaiah close to him while lifting up her shirt. He stared at her belly for a few and Kaiah just stared at him. He kissed her all over her stomach before laying his head on her chest and placing his hand on her stomach.

“See, this is how shit is supposed to be,” he said softly.

  “Tae I—“

“Shut up Kaiah, I don't wanna hear shit.” Kaiah did as she was told and just shut her mouth.

Hours later, Kaiah woke up to Synai yelling and the smell of food. She hadn't even realized she fell asleep. She slowly climbed out of bed and went downstairs. “Why are you yelling?” Kaiah asked Synai.

“Because she want her ass beat,” Deonte threatened.

Synai rolled her eyes and turned to Kaiah. “Why is he even here? As a matter of fact, I'm not staying here while he's here,” she said as she went for the front door.

“You got two seconds to get yo lil ass over here and don't make me say it again,” Kaiah said with authority. Knowing better than to play with Kaiah, Synai immediately turned around with her arms folded over her chest.

“I know you are mad at Deonte and I'm not saying you don't have the right to be, but the fact still remains that he is your brother. He was your brother before you even know who the hell I was, so don't let what we’re going through dictate your love for him.”

  “But he—“

“No buts, Synai. I hate that you have to be in the middle of our shit, but as of today you need to stay out of it and remain neutral. What we have going on is our business and we have to work out our own issues without the input or opinion of others. Do you understand me?” asked Kaiah.

“Yes,” Synai mumbled with an attitude.

“Good, now go upstairs and do some homework or whatever until it's time to eat.”

Doing as she was told, Synai ran up the stairs to her room. Deonte stood there in amazement. He had never heard Kaiah use that tone with Synai. “What?” Kaiah asked.

“It's about time you stuck up for me,” he said as he followed her into the kitchen.

“Boy please.” She rolled her eyes. “I did not stick up for you. I just don't feel right being the reason she's mad at you, so I need y'all to fix it,” she said as his phone started to ring. Kaiah reached in his pants pocket and pulled his phone out.

  “Hello?” she answered it.

“Hello, who is this?” a female asked.

Kaiah pulled the phone away from her ear to see who it was calling him but the number wasn't saved in his phone. “Umm, this is Deonte’s wife. What can I do for you?” she asked.

Deonte smirked and folded his arms over his chest. He liked how all of a sudden she was throwing the wife word around.

“Uhh, can you just tell him to call me back later when he’s not busy?” the female said like she had an attitude.

“Maybe you didn't hear me when I said it the first time. He’s married so you might as well lose his number and he’ll lose yours. Don't test me because I'm not the bitch you wanna meet,” threatened Kaiah as she hung up the phone. She put his phone back in his pocket where she got it from and walked away.

She didn't give a fuck if they were together or not. Legally, Deonte was still her husband, so that still made him hers. It was evident that he wasn't going anywhere, no matter what bitch he fucked with or nigga she entertained, so there was no need for her to trip.

“Come on Tae! What are you doing?” Kaiah yelled up the stairs.

Since the day she came home from the hospital, Deonte had been coming over early in the day and not leaving until late at night. It had been two weeks since then and just last week, he decided to ‘move-in’ until she was off of bed rest, which was a week ago. Kaiah was far from a dummy and Deonte wasn’t anywhere near slick, she knew exactly what he was up to.

“Calm down, girl. I don't know why you're so excited to spend my money.” Deonte smiled as he slapped her on her ass.

“How many times I gotta tell you that you can look but don't touch?” she said as she hit him in the arm.

Deonte just hit her with a wink as he headed to the kitchen to grab him a snack. For the past week, he had been staying with Kaiah. His stay had not only been peaceful but they had been having fun. They didn't argue or any of that stuff that they had been doing for the past couple of months. It was like they were back together, but not really.

“Are you ready now, slow poke?” Kaiah asked with her hand on her hip.

“Yea, but I gotta stop by my house and grab my Black Card. It hasn't been touched since the last time you used it,” he said as they headed for the door.

When Deonte opened the door, Shauntez was just about to stick his key in the lock with Cortez standing behind him. Kaiah looked from Deonte to Cortez to Shauntez. “Que pasa?” she asked Cortez. (What's up?)

“Tenemos que hablar,” (We need to talk.) Cortez said as he followed Shauntez into the house.

Deonte looked at Kaiah with a raised eyebrow. He knew the history he and Kaiah had but that didn't bother him. The thing that bothered him was his little brother hanging around with the connect.

“Hold up, we need someone else for this conversation,” Shauntez said as he walked back out the door.

“What’s going on, Cortez?” Kaiah asked. For some reason, she was feeling awkward being around her ex and her husband at the same time.

“You will find out in a minute,” he assured her.

The front door opened again and Shauntez entered, but he wasn’t alone. Kaiah looked around confused. The woman standing in front of her looked familiar, but she couldn’t place her. Deonte stepped back in shock. Nah, it can’t be her, he thought to himself.

“Mom?” he said barely above a whisper.

“Hello, Deonte,” Katrina spoke shyly. She was trying to fight back the tears that were threatening to fall.

Kaiah’s hands immediately went up to her mouth as she gasped in utter shock. His mother was beautiful. She didn’t even look like she had even been strung out on drugs as Deonte described. She looked just like an older version of Synai.

Deonte just stood there in shock, he didn’t know what to say or what to do. It had been fifteen years since he has last seen his mom and she was strung out on drugs real bad then. Here she was, years later, looking like she had never even touched a drug a day in her life.

“Tae, wait,” Kaiah called out as he stormed off back up the stairs. He didn’t stop so she went up the stairs after him.

Katrina wasn’t shocked. She would have been surprised if she would have gotten welcomed with open arms. “He’s always the knuckle-headed one,” Shauntez said.

Kaiah walked in the bedroom and shut the door behind her. “What’s up Tae, talk to me,” Kaiah said.

“I’m not like you Kaiah, I can’t just forgive her at the snap of a finger,” Deonte said.

“Okay, but you haven’t even heard anything she has had to say yet. At least give her a chance to explain,” Ka
iah said.

“Explain what?” he yelled. “That she was a fucking crackhead and left us? She don’t need to explain that shit because I already know how that story goes.”

“Let me talk to him for a minute, Kay Kay,” Shauntez said as he walked into the room.

“Good luck.” She sighed as she left the two brothers alone.

“Is that really how you gon act?” Shauntez asked his brother.

Deonte turned and looked at his brother as if he had lost his mind. “What the fuck do you expect? You thought I was about to hold hands and sing “Kumbaya” with her ass? Fuck that. She ain't never been around and you ain't never been worried about her being around before, so why you want her around now?” he asked.

“See, that's yo fucking problem now. You always acting out on emotions. Okay. It's no secret she was hooked on drugs. Alright we got that. She was never around, and your point is? Stop acting like a damn bitch and go down there and talk to your mother. I had to damn near beg her to come over here because she was scared of how you would react. Me and Synai already welcomed her, so why can't you?”

Deonte was taken aback by the fact that Shauntez and Synai were communicating with their mother. “Yea, all her kids had a chance to sit down and talk to her except the one she really wants to talk to. We had a chance to ask her whatever we wanted and she keep it one hundred. If you want to stay in your feelings, then that's up to you but she will be in me and Synai’s life as of today,” Shauntez said before he walked out the room.

Sometimes he felt like he was the older brother. He seemed to be the one always trying to talk some sense into somebody. Deonte sat on the bed with his head in his hands. He didn't know if he was really ready to confront his mother. He felt arms wrapping around him as Kaiah sat on the bed with him.

“You don't have to do this if you're not ready. Trust me, I know it's not an easy thing to do but it will actually help you out in the long run. Don't you think our daughter deserves to have both her grandmothers in her life?”
