“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she tries to deny it.

I lean closer, breathing in her delicious scent. “I think you know exactly what I’m talking about, Mia.” I lift my hand and trail my fingertips down her arm with featherlight touches. Her face reddens, and her eyes dart away. “If you didn’t know what I was talking about, you wouldn’t react this way when I touched you.” I lean my head down and press a kiss to her bare shoulder. The moment my lips touch her skin, she sucks in a loud breath.

The sound she just made makes my heart leap to my throat, and my dick twitches against my thigh. I force myself to sit up and take another drink of my beer, needing to numb these emotions in any way I can.

She sits silently beside me, and I watch her from the corner of my eye. Her chest is rising and falling quickly. She keeps worrying her bottom lip between her teeth, and her skin is flushed and dewy. My elbow is mere inches from touching hers, and it feels like I’m holding two magnets close together. I can feel the pull, but I’m trying my best to resist.

“Can I get two shots of tequila?” I ask the bartender.

She nods her head and gets to work on pouring the shots. Mia looks over at me with a grin. “Haven’t had enough yet, huh?”

  I snort. “No, have you?”

She shrugs one shoulder and diverts her eyes.

The bartender sets the shots in front of me, and I slide one over to Mia. “Come on. Shot for shot just like we used to.”

I think she may deny me, but she has a gleam in her eyes—the fire is burning brighter.

“Alright,” she agrees, picking up the shot. “Want to resume our game from earlier?”

  “On one condition.”

“What’s that?” She turns in her barstool, angling her body towards mine.

“No backing out of the questions this time. This time, if you want to ask a question, you have to take a shot. Deal?”

She bites that damn lip again, thinking it over. “Okay.” She throws back her shot. “Why did you want me to come on this trip?” she asks again.

“I already told you. I missed you. I missed your smart mouth, your soft touches, the way you’d always laugh at me, roll your eyes, and tell me I’m stupid. I missed everything about you, Mia.” I throw my shot back and slam the empty glass back onto the bar. “Why did you lie and tell me you had a boyfriend before? Were you trying to avoid me?”

“Yes,” she admits, not looking at me.

“Why?” I ask, placing my hand on her thigh and turning her to face me fully. My other hand moves up to her other thigh, massaging gently.

Her eyes jump up to mine, and her lips part with her heavy breathing. “Because, Trent. We always do this.” Her voice is getting louder and louder. “We always jump into bed together, and someone always ends up hurt when it’s time for you to run back to your perfect little world. You know you can’t stay with me. And I know you won’t stay with me. What’s the point?” she asks, but she doesn’t stick around long enough for me to reply. She jumps up and rushes toward the elevator.

No fucking way am I letting her run away as soon as she starts to give me answers. I drop some cash on the bar and chase after her. The elevator doors are closing as I’m approaching, so I stick my hand between them and make them open again. I step inside, finding her leaning against the corner with her arms crossed over her chest.

“Why in the hell are you always trying to run away?” I ask a little louder than necessary. “How fucking hard is it to give me one goddamn answer?” I run my hand through my hair, the anger and annoyance getting to me.

“Pretty fucking hard. Because if you don’t get the answer you want, you turn into this massive dick.” She motions toward me with one hand.

“I’m being a dick?” I point at my chest. “Me?”

“Yes!” she yells. The elevator doors open, and she rushes out, but I’m on her heels.

“This situation we’re in, it’s all your fault, you know,” she says, sliding the key card into the lock. The door opens, and she marches through it.

“My fault? How is this my fault?” I ask, walking angrily to the far end of the room. I kick my shoes off and yank my shirt over my head. I’m so angry that I pull it off a little too rough and hear the fabric tear. I sling it against the wall where it falls into the floor.

“Because you’re the one who always calls and expects me to drop everything for one night of being with you. You march into my life out of nowhere and completely unexpected, we have one amazing night together, and then you’re running off the next day. Did you ever think about how much that fucks with my head, Trent?” Her eyes look me up and down, and even though they’re bloodshot and glassy from drinking so much, I can still see the fire smoldering in them.

My mouth drops open, my words falling short. All this time, I thought I was giving her what she needed without hurting her, but it turns out, I’ve been hurting her the whole damn time. Why didn’t I realize this? Why didn’t she just come out and say it years ago? She thinks I’m using her. I am using her. I’m taking what I want without giving her anything but one night of fun in return. No wonder she’s been avoiding me.

“I…” I start, but I don’t know what to say. My anger starts to fall away, now replaced with regret and sadness. “I’m sorry,” I say. “I didn’t realize that our being together was fucking with your head. I just thought you loved being with me, and I love being with you. I thought we were both settling for what we could have.”

“It started the way, but it didn’t end that way. Not for me,” she says, and her eyes that are already glassy begin to water.

My heart cracks and breaks at the same instant.

She leans her back against the wall, and her hand moves up to push her hair out of her face. When she looks back at me, her face is red, with fresh tears streaming down her cheeks. I don’t think. I can’t. I can do nothing but act. And even though it may be the wrong move, I rush to her, picking her up against me while my mouth moves to hers.

I realize she’s in this pain because of this, but right now, I just want to stop her pain. I just want her to feel better, to feel anything other than the hurt I’ve caused her.

Our kiss is hard and rushed as her tongue dances with mine. I have her pinned between my chest and the wall, her legs wrapped around my hips. My hands tour her body, feeling her toned thighs, her round ass, her flat stomach, and upward still: grazing her breasts, holding either side of her face, and tangling into her hair. Her nails dig into my back, pulling me closer as her hips begin to move against me. My body comes alive, and my dick aches as it hardens against her.

God, I’m in fucking heaven. Her scent is sweet, like sweet pea and lavender. Her taste, like cherry and tequila. Her skin is so fucking soft that it feels like silk beneath my hands. And her soft cries and whimpers, they’re music to my ears. It’s like I’ve been deaf my entire life and just heard my first heavenly sound of angels singing.

Somehow, I’m lost and no longer remember why we’re doing this. All I know is that it feels good, feels right. And I’m nowhere near ready to stop. My hands land on her thighs and work their way up her body again, only this time, pushing her dress upward as they go. When the thin material is at her breasts, I grab it and pull it over her head and toss it onto the floor. She’s in nothing but her bra and panties, and I’m moments from coming undone completely.

“God, you’re so fucking sexy, Mia,” I whisper against her lips while my hands try to unclasp her bra. Normally, this isn’t an area that gives me trouble—it’s not like I’m a sixteen-year-old virgin—but right now, I’m drunk, wanting to rush, but also wanting to give her the time she needs to stop this if she wants to.

“You have no idea how badly I’ve been craving you. I’ve dreamt about this moment, sliding into your hot, tight body.” A growl escapes my lips, and I sling the bra onto the floor just as my hands fall to her hips, ripping off her panties. When the fabric tears away, she sucks in a breath and lets out a loud moan of
pure ecstasy.

I reach between us and unbutton my jeans. As I move her over to the bed, my jeans drop to my knees, and I kick them off as my mouth closes in around her clit. Her back arches off the bed as she calls out my name. Her hands move to my head, her fingers lacing through my hair as she tugs against the root. Her thighs clamp around my head, keeping me from moving until I’ve given her exactly what she needs.

I know her body as well as I know my own. I know the exact moves to have her seeing stars. I hold the key, the password, every combination. It’s only minutes before she is screaming beneath me.

I tug my boxers down my hips as I position myself at her opening. I look into her eyes, giving her time to back out even though I know she won’t. With one roll of my hips, I’m sliding deep inside, and we both let out a relieved moan of appreciation. Every muscle in my body is hard and flexed, trying to hold back my release that’s ready to come just from sliding into her. Her hand wraps around the back of my neck, and she pulls my mouth to hers, kissing me passionately. This is what I love about this woman. Even if she’s pissed at me, even if she hates me, I own her body, and she knows it. She can’t deny me, no matter how much she wants to. She’s always so responsive. I bet I could tell her to come right now, and she would. However, my body is just as responsive to hers.

With my hands gripping her hips, I pull out just to thrust back in. I’m moving slowly with precision, but forceful, causing her to move up the bed with each hit from my hips.

“God, Trent,” she breathes out in a gasp as she lifts her hips.

“I know, baby. It’s been too long. You feel too good,” I say, pulling out of her and flipping her over on her knees. I pull her ass up into the air and slide into her from behind, and she rewards me with a loud moan.

“Fuck, Mia,” I whisper, never slowing my assault on her. “I swear, I never want to leave you. I want to be right here, always,” I mumble, pumping into her with hard, fast movements. With each thrust, her arms get weaker and weaker until her chest is against the bed, and only her ass is in the air.

I feel her beginning to tighten around me, and I wrap my arm around her hip while my fingers work over her hard nub. I rock into her while my fingers move over her slick folds. She calls out my name with loud, breathy moans.

“Fuck. So good,” falls from my lips as my release rises and breaks, washing over me. My hips pick up speed, pounding into her fast and hard as we both ride out the final waves of our orgasm.

When my high ends, I find myself leaning against her. I press a kiss to her back as I pull out and fall to her side. She collapses without me, and I pull her against my chest. She allows me to hold her, and I pepper her back, shoulders, and neck with kisses.

“I swear, Mia, I never meant to hurt you,” I whisper. “You’re the only thing I’ve ever cared about. You fucking own me,” I mumble, feeling sleep tug at me.

Don’t ask me what’s changed because nothing has. I’m still traveling around like crazy. I still can’t be the boyfriend that Mia deserves. But I fucking love her with everything inside of me. I don’t want her with another man, but I want her to find someone she deserves—I know that doesn’t make sense. I need her. Our little arrangement has worked for us this long, and I don’t want it ever to end. But I’m a selfish asshole. This is all for me. I know that. And what do I do? I keep taking and demanding more of her even after everything she’s done for me over the years.

But there’s something about her I can’t walk away from. I’ve never felt this high before with anyone else. My body doesn’t respond to anyone else the way it does her. All it takes to get me going is her golden eyes. One simple smile has me dropping to my knees, begging. Fuck, if she only knew the power she has over me.

This won’t work. You’re going to end up hurting her, hurting yourself.

I push the thoughts from my head and let sleep take me as I listen to her deep, even breathing. I let her scent and her heat sink into my body, taking me to a place I haven’t been to in a long time, but a place I call home nonetheless.

  Mia

“OUCH,” I cry, holding my head in my hands when I wake in the morning. I roll over to my back, my eyes straining against the bright morning sun that’s streaming in through the windows. We didn’t think to close them last night. We. We?

Oh, fuck! No, no, no, no, no. I didn’t! That wasn’t real. I’m breathing heavily, trying to think about last night in a way to convince myself that the images burned into my memory didn’t really happen.

With my eyes closed, I feel the bed move, the blanket dragging across my bare stomach.

“Fuck. No. Please, no,” I say out loud.

“Not so loud. My fucking head is killing me,” Trent says, causing my eyes to pop open. I sit upright in a rush and look over at him. He’s lying on his stomach, his back bare, the blanket covering his ass.

“Trent!” I yell, smacking his ass.

“Ouch!” He yells, rolling over. “What the hell was that for?” he asks, looking up at me as he lays his arm above his head.

“You… We…” I growl. “You!” My eyes narrow on him.

He smirks. Fucking smirks. “I thought we had a pretty good time.”

“You did this,” I growl out, standing from the bed and pulling the sheet with me as I go. I wrap it around my body as I begin backing away. “You… you tricked me into this somehow,” I say, feeling dizzy. My hand moves up to tangle in my hair.

He lifts himself up with his elbows, still laying on his back but now looking at me. “I what?” he asks, grin still in place. “You enjoyed it, and you know it. Don’t say you don’t remember.” His eyes rake up and down my body, even though the only thing you can see is my bare legs and upper chest by my neck and collarbones.

My mouth opens, but no words come out. “This is…” I shake my head. “It was… You…” Finally, I stop talking and sit on the edge of the bed, too dizzy to remain standing.

He scoots down the bed and presses his lips to my shoulder, causing me to jump.

“Oh, don’t be like that now, sweetheart. I’m ready for round two. How bout you?” he asks, pulling me back against his chest where his lips land on that magical spot on my neck. His hand lands firmly on my breast, and he massages it gently before lightly pinching my nipple.

Despite everything I was just fighting against, a moan leaves my lips, and it only eggs him on. While his mouth devours every inch of my neck, his hands explore my body. Neither of us has moved, so I’m between his legs, my back against his chest. He’s kissing, sucking, and biting my neck while his hand runs down my body, landing between my shaking thighs. His fingers run between my slick folds while his other hand squeezes my breast.

God. This man knows how to manipulate my body like no other. I feel him hard against my lower back.

“Trent, we can’t,” I whisper, allowing my eyes to close.

“Yes, we can,” he says, rolling us over, so he’s on top of me. “Once we leave his room, time resets. Until then, this is you and me,” he whispers, moving his mouth to mine, and I accept his kiss willingly. He’s right. This is us. A hot mess that only knows how to make the other person feel good despite every reason we shouldn’t.

We’re lost in this world, stumbling around and trying to find our way, a way to live without the other. But no matter how hard we try, we’re always brought back together. Despite the pain, the tears, the heartache, I want him. I need him. And nothing will stop me from being with him. I can’t deny him fully dressed, but now that he’s naked and doing things to my body that very few have, there’s no stopping it. I couldn’t even if I wanted to. But I don’t want to.

Trent and I spend an hour in bed before moving to the shower to get ready for the day. However, one way or another, we end up coming together again in the shower. And then on the bathroom counter. Finally, we manage to get dressed, and I grab a tiny bottle of vodka—the hair of the dog—before heading out to the balcony. He follows me out, and once again, I fi
nd myself legs spread, back against the building as he moves inside me once again.

Our balcony romp doesn’t seem to be ending. Instead, it moves back into the room when we fall through the open door and onto the carpet. After both of us getting painful rug burns, he sits me on the dresser with my back against the mirror.

That’s where we are when someone bangs on the door.

“Come on, guys. We’ve listened to you all night. Give it a break while you still have fluids left in your body,” Levi says with a laugh.

Even though he’s still inside me, he pulls away and meets my stare. Our time in our own little world has been broken.

“Be out in a sec,” Trent says, before swallowing and looking back at me. He rocks his hips against me, and my mouth falls open. Even though we know this can’t last, we can at least finish. Bringing his mouth back to mine, his hips begin moving with force and speed once again.

A little while later, we’re both walking into the hotel restaurant, finding the group in the big corner booth. We take our seats, and everyone looks at us.

“Did you guys have a good night?” Dani asks with a smile.

“I’d say they did,” Levi says, laughing. “I think they could both use some Gatorade at this point.”

Trent doesn’t reply or even smile. I can tell he doesn’t appreciate the ribbing they’re giving us, probably more on my behalf than his.

“Is this alcohol?” I ask, picking up the flute of orange juice.

“Of course,” Dani says with her smile still in place.

I take a sip, tasting champagne. It only takes minutes before I’ve thrown the whole thing back. By the time my breakfast arrives, I’ve already got a little buzz. I’m not a big drinker, so I’m taking advantage of this trip and planning on holding the hangover off until we arrive back in Chicago when I can crawl into my bed and recover all alone.
