by Shataya Simms

“We about to partttttyyyyy,” Morgan and Sabrina squeal as we enter a bar.

“And we don’t got no supervision. No kids and no men,” Gia chimes in pulling my arm.

We spend the whole night bar hopping and cutting up on Bourbon Street drunk as hell. I think at one point I even tried to have a conversation with one of the police horses. Bastard was rude too. He wouldn’t allow me to pet ‘em. Kept turning his head every time I tried as the police officer just laughed at my efforts.

Drunk as all hell, we stagger back to the house around four in the morning after we showed out at the strip club.

“Oh my god. I’m totally fucked up,” Pree says, passing out in the foyer. I clumsily fall on her laughing hysterically and holding my private part trying to prevent myself from peeing.

“Oh my god…Oh my god…Oh my god,” I chant as I jump up and start dancing in the foyer trying to prevent from peeing on myself. I dart for the bathroom, strip out of my clothes and relieve myself.

“Hurry,” Morgan drunkenly bangs on the door.

“Shhhh…” I hiss while laughing. “You’re making too much noise. Use the other bathroom.”

“I’m not gonna make it. OMG Aneesah. Hurry up,” she bangs on the door. “Oh my god. It’s happening.”

  I open the door.

“Did you piss yourself?” I laugh.

“Shut-up,” she snaps, pushing me aside and slamming the door in my face. I walk back to the foyer and am looking at now three fallen bodies sprawled out on the floor.

“I’m not picking y’all up,” I stagger over to them before falling. “Now there are four,” I laugh, trying to unbuckle my shoe.

“Ugh…I promise…God…if you make it stop, I’ll never drink again,” Jada cries.

“I have to check on my babies,” I say, trying to get up. Using Pree’s butt to steady myself off the floor, I stagger up the stairs and make it to Rita’s room.

“Mom,” I whisper but not whisper.

  “Aneesah…shhhh,” she snaps.

“My babies…my babies…,” I ogle over them, watching them peacefully sleep.

  “Were they good?” I slur.

“Aneesah, get the fuck out of here with all that damn noise,” Rita snips.

“You don’t have to be rude,” I tell her walking out the room and falling in front of her door, laughing at myself.

“The boyz are in the houssssseeee. Yo, why the fuck is my wife on the fuckin’ floor?” I hear Knuck slur and the front door slam.

“Baby, I think I peed on myself,” Morgan cries, as I laugh hysterically.

“You good, fellas?” I hear Kay ask. “I have to shower this one up and put her to bed,” he says sounding completely sober like the niggah’s on-call at the hospital or something.

“Where’s my hoe at?” I hear Nyce slur.

“I’m not a hoe you dog,” I slur from upstairs.

  “Babe, where you at?”

“Watch my wife, niggah. You almost stepped on her,” Black snaps.

“Ain’t nobody about to step on her big ass,” Nyce chuckles.

“Drunk and all, I will still fuck you up,” Sabrina mumbles.

“Babe, where you at?” Nyce asks again.

“Upstairs. I’m drunk bae,” I whine, room starting to spin.

“Shit. Me too,” he says, coming up the stairs. “Fuck,” he curses, falling at the end of the hall, laughing at himself. “Babe, you gonna have to meet me half way. Crawl to me, Ma.”

“Okay,” I slur, rolling onto my hands and knees, only making it about four steps…crawls…paces…I don’t know what the fuck it’s called.

“I’m not going to make it babe. The room is spinning,” I whine.

“It’s cool. I’m coming for you, boo,” he says, army crawling towards me. “Shit! My boot,” he laughs. “A niggah is fucked up.”

I lift my head and watch him crawl towards me with one Timberland boot on. I laugh at the sight and hold out my hand for him. He finally reaches me and locks his fingers with mine as we both lie on our stomachs, heads touching.

“Are the babies alright?” He asks.

“They’re with my mom,” I mumble, eyes heavy.

“Did you have a good time?”

“Uh-huh,” I answer before passing out.

“Awww. Wake up you two,” I hear Destiny’s voice. I crack my eyes open and see that she’s holding Arden in her arms as Mookie’s daughter Marley is holding Jasir.

“Owwww…my head,” I whine, looking at Nyce who is still passed out snoring.

“Look,” Destiny says, showing me a photo on her camera phone. One of the photos are of Nyce and I sleeping in the hallway, still holding hands and another photo of Jasir lying on Nyce’s back while Arden is on mine.

“What a sight to see,” Miss Annette laughs. “I’ll take care of the babies. Get them fools up and tell the ones who are passed out in the foyer to get up too,” she says walking off.

After sleeping the day away with all of us young adults neglecting our responsibilities, the following morning we fly back to Philly with fun filled memories to take back with us, vowing that we would make this a habit to celebrate Thanksgiving together going forward.

  Chapter Thirty-One

  December 2018

It’s already the beginning of December and the babies will be five months by the end of the month. Nyce is at a business meeting for the club and I am in my dance studio with the twins. I can tell already that Arden is the bossy, sassy one and Ja has more of a laid back, I don’t give a fuck, just make sure I’m fed, personality.

I am dancing ballet as they watch me silently being nosy, fighting their sleep. Nyce walks into the studio wearing a business suit looking powerful and sexy as hell. I finish up my chaines and run, leaping into his arms.

“Hey baby,” I greet giving him a kiss and a taste of my tongue.

“Hey beautiful,” he laughs pushing the hair out of my face. “Don’t be having my son watch you dance. You’re gonna make him gay,” he says putting me down.

“You watch me dance and you’re not gay.”

“That’s different. I watch you dance because the shit turns me on,” he laughs, slapping my ass.

“I know plenty of male dancers who aren’t gay so stop feeding into that bullshit. That is society’s stupid notion that men can’t be dancers without being gay,” I roll my eyes.

“Whatever. Come here man. Your mom is trippin’,” he says taking Jasir out of his carrying seat.

  Arden begins to cry.

“What’s wrong baby girl?” I ask picking her up. When she doesn’t calm down, Nyce and I switch babies and she immediately stops crying once in her daddy’s arms.

“Oh, you little heifer,” I frown.

“She’s daddy’s girl,” Nyce says kissing her. She nestles in his arms and shuts her eyes. Jasir follows suit. We bundle the babies up and walk back up to the main house putting them in their room before retreating to ours.

“Stop taking your birth control pills,” Nyce says while lying on top of me and staring into my eyes.

“Huh? Boy, our babies aren’t even five months yet.”

  “So what. I want more.”

“I’m not gonna settle for just being your baby mama,” I tell him, all jokes aside. He cracks a smile.

“I love you. You’re my Diamond girl. I ain’t ever giving you up,” he sings. I laugh.

  “I haven’t heard that in a while.”

“What was the other thing I use to sing to you?” He asks.

“Oh…um…I call her Diamond because my dick is her best friend,” I giggle.

  “Yeah. I remember now.”

“Me too even though you got the lyrics all wrong.”

“What you mean? We never even figured out who said it.”

“It’s Apache’s “I Need a Gangsta Bitch” and the lyrics go “I call her Dollars ‘cause that’s what she liked to spend. She called me Diamond ‘cause my dick was her best friend” so I really should be call
ing you Diamond and not the other way around,” I crack a smile.

“Yeah right. Like I would answer to some shit like that,” he laughs. We hear one of the babies crying through the monitor.

“Sounds like Jasir’s greedy ass. Feeding time,” I say getting up.

“Damn. They always interfering wit’ daddy’s feeding time.”

“I just fed daddy,” I laugh.

“Yeah but daddy ain’t full yet and he wants some more,” he says pulling me back into bed. Arden starts to scream at the top of her lungs.

“Little brat,” I laugh getting up.

“Don’t be calling my daughter no brat. She acts just like her Mama,” he chuckles.

  “What you tryin’ to say?”

“Like mother like daughter. She’s gonna be a stuck up, snobby little brat just like you.”

“Is that what you think of me?”

“Hell yeah, but you’re my stuck up little brat and that’s all that matters,” he says kissing me as we walk out the room to tend to the babies.

I spend the rest of my weeks helping Pree with this damn wedding and Christmas shopping. I am so excited about my first Christmas with my new family. On Christmas Eve, after spending the day at Mr. J’s and Diana’s house for their Christmas Eve party, Nyce and I enter our house and put the babies to bed.

“I’m exhausted, baby,” I tell him, stretching out across the bed.

“Me too,” he says walking into the closet. Not sure what he did after that because the next thing I know, it’s morning and he’s tickling me to wake up.

“It’s Christmas baby,” he whispers in my ear.

“Go away,” I yawn shooing him away.

“Wake dat ass up,” he says bouncing on the bed. I roll over and stare at him coldly in his face before he pulls an envelope out from behind his back.

“Merry Christmas baby,” he cheeses before kissing my cheek.

“What is it?” I ask opening the envelope. It’s a brochure to St. Croix. I smile before kissing his lips. I wouldn’t mind getting out of the winter cold for a while.

“When do we leave?” I ask.

“On the 28th. I figure we can spend the New Year there.”

  “What about the babies?”

“They’re coming too. Rita, Jada and Joe agreed to come along to help.”

“You got this all planned out, huh?”

“And you know this,” he says kissing me.

We gather the babies and walk downstairs to open gifts. I got him a pair of black diamond earrings, some outfits, a new watch, cologne and a new wallet. Nyce gifts me a whole new wardrobe for our trip. Shorts, dresses, bikini’s, you name it.

I look around our grand room at the piles and piles of gifts scattered all over the floor.

“Um…I think we over did it,” I smile as he films me and the babies sitting on the floor surrounded by presents. The babies are sitting quietly, staring up at the lights on the Christmas tree.

“They’re only five months. What were we thinking?” I laugh.

“We’re thinking how much we love them,” he says kissing Jasir and then Arden.

I jump up to feed them while Nyce showers. We exchange roles and then head out to Knuck and Pree’s for Christmas dinner that Jada cooks. We are eating dinner when Morgan announces:

  “I’m pregnant.”

“Damn Morgan, you just stole my thunder,” Jalena laughs.

“Well you don’t count. You already have one,” Morgan says as we all laugh and bask in the good news.

“You think that they will all be best friends like we are?” Jada asks.

“I hope so. God knows that they are all close in age.”

“Except Taj because he is the only boy. He’s gonna have his hands full trying to protect all these girls,” I laugh.

“He’ll be fine. He can teach Jasir and baby Machai,” Pree says, smiling at a very pregnant Melissa. We sit around drinking, talking and having a good time.

“Did you pump enough milk?” Jada asks.

“Damn J. All up in mine. I pumped so I have enough bottles to last a couple of days. You’re worse than Nyce’s ass.”

“Sorry. Just checking. I don’t want my niece and nephew ending up a little touched,” she laughs, kissing on Arden.

“They’re fine. Oh, and thanks for coming with us on the trip to help out.”

“No problem. Maybe I will meet my dream guy down there.”

“I thought you don’t believe in that.”

“I don’t really but I look at you and Nyce and Pree and Knuck and well, I look at all of y’all and y’all seem so happy. I’m 28 and I’ve done what most people only imagine doing. I’m ready for my happily ever after too.”

“It will happen J,” I smile.

A few days later, we fly out to St. Croix with Rita, Jada and Joe in tow. When we land, we are all pretty exhausted so Nyce and I check into our private villa as Rita, Jada and Joe check into theirs. The following day, we hand our babies over to Rita and stay shacked up in our villa making love, sleeping and eating. We repeat the cycle the day after, enjoying this alone time without the kids.

“We have to at least leave the room one of these days,” Nyce says kissing my forehead. It’s a little after 10 in the morning.

“Mmmmm…I am so comfortable lying here with you,” I smile.

“It’s New Year’s Eve. Let’s see what this place has to offer.”

“I want to go to the castle. It looks so pretty on the brochure,” I smile. He rolls his eyes.

“Don’t make that face,” I scorn. He laughs.

“I’ll call to see if it’s not too late to get a tour for the day.”

“Okay. I’m gonna pump and get dressed,” I tell him, kissing his chest and jumping out the comfort of his arms.

After pumping, I shower and get dressed. Nyce comes strolling back inside the villa as I’m packing up the babies’ bags.

“Did you see the babies?” I ask while putting the bottles in the bag to walk over to Rita.

“Yeah. They’re good. I’m about to hop in the shower.”

“Okay. I’ll be next door.” I grab the bag and walk over to Rita’s villa.

“Hey mom,” I greet her with a kiss.

“Hey baby,” she says handing me Arden.

“Hey baby girl. You being good for Mom-Mom?” I ask giving her a kiss. She smiles, and her tiny hands grab my face.

“No. She’s the bad one. She’s gonna be a piece of work,” Rita laughs.

“No, she’s not. She’s my little sweetheart,” I smile, kissing all over her face.

I peek in on Jasir who is rocking in his swing with a mean look on his face staring at me like woman, I know you see me so hurry up and come get me. I laugh and walk over to him.

Once I feed and play with my babies, I put them to sleep and sit with Rita for a while talking. Nyce comes walking in, swooping me out of the chair.

“I need her. Bye Miss Rita,” he says carrying me out the villa as I giggle in delight.

  “You missed me?” I ask.

“Always,” he says putting me on my feet. He grabs my hand and we walk to the pool. I pull my cover up over my head, displaying my lime-green bikini. Nyce whistles.

“Hey baby. What’s your name? What’s your sign?” He winks.

“You are so corny,” I laugh.

“Oh yeah?” He asks scooping me up in his arms and throwing me in the pool.

“ASSHOLE,” I yell at him as I try to get the water out my ear. He just stands there laughing. He jumps into the pool and grabs me.

“Tell me you love me,” he says.

  “No.”

  “Oh word?”

“To tha motha,” I reply, snaking my neck with attitude. He laughs.

“Come here girl,” he says giving me a wet kiss. We play around in the pool for a while before getting out.

  “I’m hungry,” I whine.

  “You’re always hungry.”

  “Feed me, baby.”

p; “Come on. It’s time to head to this damn castle tour anyway,” he says looking at his watch.

“Yay, you got us a tour?” I squeal.

  “Of course,” he smiles.

We grab our stuff and board the tour bus, being the only ones on it.

  “Where is everybody?” I wonder.

“It’s New Year’s Eve,” Nyce shrugs his shoulders. I look out the window admiring the beauty of the island. When I turn my head, Nyce is staring at me.

“What the fuck you lookin’ at?” I jokingly snap. He cocks his head to the side and smiles.

“Fuck you, you jerk,” he laughs, holding up his middle finger.

We arrive at the castle and I am in pure amazement as we tour the grounds.

“It’s so beautiful. Like a fairy tale,” I squeal as we walk through the gardens. I admire all the beautiful flowers planted and the landscape. You still have a view of the ocean from here. Nyce plucks a flower and places it in my hair.

“Hey. I set something up for you,” he smiles grabbing my hand. We walk through the labyrinth until we come upon a table draped in white linen with blood red roses sitting on top.

“You’re so romantical,” I joke as he lets out a chuckle.

“Sit.” He pulls out my chair. I take a seat and he sits in the chair across from me.

“Lunch in the garden. I love it,” I smile. The waiter comes and pours us a glass of wine as well as some water. Two men emerge carrying violins.

“Are you trying to recreate a scene?” I giggle.

  “Is it working?” He laughs.

“Always,” I smile. The men begin to play Ginuwine “Differences”.

  “Very smooth, Romeo,” I giggle.

“You know I love you, right?”

“Not as much as I love you.”

“I highly doubt it,” he laughs. The song ends just as the waiter is wheeling a cart of food to the table and place our dishes in front of us. The food is hiding underneath a silver cloche. I watch the waiter lift Nyce’s lid off revealing a succulent lobster. My stomach growls in anticipation but when he lifts my lid, I am left staring at a plate of lettuce.

“Hey, where’s my…?” I was about to go off until I look up and Nyce is holding a ring in his hands, smiling at me. He walks around the table and gets down on one knee.
