  Skye squeezed Nate’s hand and grinned at the doctor.

  “Okay.” Dr. Azzabi rose from his desk and rounded it as Skye and Nate followed. The doctor shook Nate’s hand firmly, “Look after her, young man, she is a very special woman.” Skye was shocked at Dr. Azzabi’s words, and deeply touched.

  “I will,” Nate said firmly.

  He came to Skye and folded her into his arms in a rare show of unprofessional familiarity. “Look after yourself, Skye, and enjoy life. It’s time.” Skye felt her throat tighten and her eyes get wet with his words and the fatherly hug. “I will,” she mumbled, “And thank you for everything you have done for us. I’ll never forget it.” The doctor nodded and released her.

  She followed as Nate led her to the door. She felt slightly unsteady and very emotional. It was shock and happiness. She clutched Nate’s arm and he wrapped his arm around her.

  Looking at Noah while he sat, talking to the receptionist and organizing the stickers, she stumbled as her heel caught on a dip in the linoleum and Nate caught her up against him.

  “I got you, mi cielo, I got you,” he said in her ear. And in that moment, she knew he did–he totally did. She walked to Noah with her arm tucked around Nate’s waist.

  “Hey, champ! You ready to go?”

  “Yep. Just finished doing the stickers.” Noah said goodbye and Skye confirmed the follow up appointment for three months’ time.

  The ride home was filled with a contentment that Skye couldn’t ever remember feeling. Nate had her hand in his, and was resting it on her thigh as he drove, only letting it to change gears. Her son was healthy. Even thinking that in her head made her want to giggle with unsuppressed joy.

  Liam met them as they got out of the car. He had just finished a perimeter check. He had a quick word with Nate and then smiled at Skye and gave Noah a fist bump.

  “Hey dude! How goes it?” Liam asked Noah.

  “It goes great! Guess what?” he asked, the excitement showing on his face.

  “What?” Liam asked as he studied Noah’s contagious excitement.

  “I kicked cancer’s butt!” Liam looked at Nate and Skye who nodded.

  “Wow, man that is excellent news! You must be, like, a superhero or something.”

  Noah nodded in agreement and then his face went serious. “I’m going to need a costume,” turning to his mum, he asked, “You can make me one, right?” Skye looked at him and wondered at kids’ ability to just keep on going and moving forward.

  “Sure can, sweetie,” she replied.

  “Come on, let’s go inside,” said Nate, looking around, clearly not happy with being outside.

  They went inside and since it was special occasion, decided it was definitely a celebration tonight, so it was Noah’s turn to pick dinner, and he chose hotdogs and his favourite toffee, banana sponge pudding. Skye felt her hips widen as she ate, but couldn’t care less. Her baby had, in his words, ‘kicked cancers butt.’ And, anyway, she could think of one or two ways to burn some calories later, she thought, her gaze sliding to Nate.

  He was on the floor in the living room, his arms resting lightly over his knees, an Xbox controller in his hands. He had changed into dark running shorts and a pale grey t-shirt after his shower. He’d let Noah watch him train in his weight room while she made dinner and did the obligatory round of phone calls.

  Lizzie had burst into tears, which had made her do the same. They had talked for a while and agreed that when things settled, they would have a girl’s night out. Skye got off the phone feeling like Lizzie sounded better, she was still determined to get to the bottom what was bothering her friend though.

  Looking over at Nate, again, she marveled at the bond he and Noah had formed in such a short time. They sat side by side, in exactly the same pose, and for all intents and purposes, could be father and son. She thought about what Nate had told her about having kids of his own and knew it would be a crying shame for his genes not to be passed on. Her stomach clenched in the best way at the thought of how they could go about, trying to make that happen.

  She’d changed into yoga pants and a thin, long-sleeved t-shirt and felt her nipples bead against her top as her mind went into overdrive as she watched Nate. She wondered if it would always be like this–this need for him. She’d never been overly sexed, she liked it well enough, but she didn’t understand when Lauren went on about Dane and how she couldn’t keep her hands off him, but she felt the same with Nate. It was as if he had woken some thirst in her she couldn’t quench.

  He must have felt her looking, because he looked up at her–the smile on his face froze and then turned into something, altogether, different that made her wriggle in her seat. His beautiful, dark eyes went almost black and his eyelids dropped to half-mast, his shoulders flexed.

  “Noah, buddy, I’m all tired out. I reckon it’s time to hit the hay,” he directed his eyes to Skye, but spoke to Noah.

  Skye knew she had woken something in him as he looked at her.

  She heard her son groan, “Aww, I was having fun.” She immediately snapped into mum mode.

  “I know, sweetie, but it’s already late and you need your sleep if you’re going to be a superhero.”

  “Okay, mum. Nate, will you tuck me in?”

  “Sure, buddy. I’ll be up soon.” Noah, being the good kid he was, went straight upstairs to get ready for bed.

  Skye went to step past Nate, but he grabbed her arm and tugged her down so she fell onto his lap. He grasped her hips and lifted her so she straddled him. Threading one hand into her hair, he lifted it from her neck and kissed the pulse that hammered.

  Her body, already primed from her visual exploration, shot straight to tingly.

  “When you go upstairs, I want you to take a nice, relaxing bath. And when you get out, lie on the bed in nothing but a smile. I want you to do exactly as I say. Do you understand?” The deep command in his voice almost made her climax on the spot. She nodded and he rewarded her with a toe-curling kiss. “Go, baby. Say goodnight to Noah. I’ll make sure everything is secure down here and be up soon.”

  There he was, totally commanding and sexy as fuck, and in the next breath, he made her melt with his constant desire to look out for them like the protector he was. God, she loved him.

  Skye went upstairs, said goodnight to her son, and made sure he was tucked in. She read him his stories, but at his request, left the last one for Nate. She left the door open a smidge so that she could hear him if he needed her, not that he ever did. He seemed to have settled well at Nate’s house. She wondered if, like her, he felt the innate protection that cloaked them like a shroud.

  Climbing the stairs to the room she currently shared with Nate, her blood started to hum and she felt the all-consuming anticipation of Nate’s words and the way in which he’d uttered them. Something felt different, he was more commanding, and she found it HOT.

  He told her to take a relaxing bath and then lie on the bed naked. Something about lying there, naked, waiting for him, felt deliciously naughty. She ran the bath, adding some of her favourite cranberry bubble bath. She’d pinned her hair to the top of her head and sunk into the hot water up to her shoulders.

  It had been years since she felt relaxed enough, or had the time, to just relax in a bath and know that someone else was there to see to Noah. She could let go of the worries that had felt like a dead weight to her.

  Granted, they still had the threat of Felicity and the Watchers hanging over them, but she didn’t feel the constant nausea and fear that Noah’s illness made her feel. She knew Nate would protect them. She trusted him and everyone at Fortis, implicitly.

  Maybe that was stupid, and perhaps she was being over-generous about their ability. Nevertheless, that was how she felt, and for now, she would enjoy the moment.

  Thinking of the moment made her think of Nate, and she could hear his deep rumbling voice as he read to Noah. She snapped out of her dreamy, relaxed state when she no longer heard him reading. He must be finished. S
he knew Noah would be out like a light after such a busy day. Finished with her bath, she got out and wrapped the large, fluffy towel around her body.

  She chose her favourite orange blossom body lotion and carefully smoothed it all over her skin. Her stomach was full of butterflies as she went to the bed, discarding the towel as she lay down to wait for Nate.

  Skye didn’t know if it was the anticipation or the nerves fluttering in her tummy, but her skin felt electric–like the slightest touch and she would go up in flames. She turned her head as she heard Nate come in. He didn’t say a word as he entered but the look on his face made her tingle in all the right places.

  His eyes were hooded and the look of desire in them was so intense, she thought he wouldn’t even need to touch her at this rate before she went up in flames. He crossed to the bed and sat on the edge by her hip.

  Still looking at her, he ran his hand down her cheek, over her neck and through the middle of her breasts, down to her navel. He stopped as she arched her body towards him.

  “I want to blind fold you, mi amor.” He watched as her breath hitched and she nodded. Somehow, she thought the hypnotic spell would be broken if she spoke. Nate didn’t speak again, but leaned in and kissed her. His soft lips teasing until she opened to him, and then he tasted her with a fervor that had her writhing and reaching her hands up through his hair.

  He pulled away, though. “Thank you, mi amor, for trusting me.” He reached into the drawer by his side of the bed and withdrew a black piece of silk. He lifted her head, reverently, and tied it tight–not enough to hurt, but enough that it wouldn’t move.

  She felt him move, then his weight left the bed. She was amazed that her other senses kicked in so quickly. She could hear rustling as he stripped his clothes and then could hear a tinkling sound, like glass touching glass. Her sense of smell was improved, and she could smell Nate’s aftershave and the smell of arousal, which she’d never noticed before. It was intoxicating.

  Her tummy started to flutter, and her heart started to race, as she felt him approach. The bed dipped at her feet and she flinched when she felt something cold being dragged up the arch of her foot. She hissed as the feeling was followed by the heat of Nate’s tongue. He slid the ice up her leg all the way to her most intimate places, then stopped and did the same to the other leg.

  By the time he got to the apex of her legs the second time, she was wriggling and clutching the sheet. Instead of touching her, though, he moved and she wanted to scream in frustration but all that came out of her mouth was a whimper. He came back and she heard the smile in his voice.

  “You look so beautiful, Skye. I’ve never seen anything more beautiful than you, right at this second.” She felt her skin flush at his compliment and turned to the sound of his voice. He straddled her hips, then, and she felt his hard erection against her stomach. He grasped her wrists and lifted them above her head. “Leave your hands here or I will have to cuff you,” He said in a heady voice. The thought of him cuffing her had a flood of heat flushing her body. That sounded so hot.

  He then set about twirling an ice-cube over breasts, but never touched the place she wanted most. Her nipples were hard and aching as she arched, again, trying to force him to give her some relief from the delicious achy feeling.

  Finally, after what felt like hours of torture, he fastened his lips around her nipple and sucked, deep and hard. She cried out and arched of the bed, the feeling zipped from her breast straight to her clit. Nate let her nipple go and repeated the treatment on the other side.

  Instead of moving down towards, her ignored clit, he moved away, again, coming back seconds later, getting back in the same position–only lower down, so he was straddling her hips.

  She felt his erection bob against her clit as he bent forward and they both hissed out a breath. Skye was elated to know he felt the same as she did.

  “Open your mouth, mi cielo,” he said softly. Without thought, she slowly opened her mouth. She was tentative, not knowing what to expect. She jumped when she felt the juicy sweetness of strawberry juice on her tongue. Nate rubbed the soft fruit over her lips and then licked the sweetness from them before taking her mouth in a heady kiss.

  Skye itched to run her fingers over his body, and it was only through sheer, stubborn willpower that she kept her hands up above her head. Nate released her mouth, putting the fruit back to her lips and fed her the fruit.

  She chewed and the sweetness exploded on her tongue. The blindfold making the taste seem more pure and sweeter. He trailed kisses down her neck and the then did the same with the strawberries he’d done with the ice, driving her to the brink of madness with wanting some sort of release.

  Thank god he carried on, tracing the sweet strawberries over her stomach, kissing and licking the juice as he went. He stopped when he got to her navel and dropped soft kisses on the marks from her pregnancy. She let out a soft cry as he did. Part desire and part pure emotion.

  Finally…finally he must have felt sorry for her, as her whimpers became louder and her hands scrunched the sheet into knots above her head.

  He traced the strawberries over her outer lips then sucked the juice from them. Her body came off the bed and she arched as tiny electrical currents flowed through her body. He twirled the fruit over her clit and she bucked and writhed as he then sucked her clit into his mouth and proceeded to blow her mind. He added his fingers and she lost control as a climax started to crash over her in giant waves, almost drowning her in feelings. She gripped her hands in his hair and rode the wave of bliss as she writhed. Nate slowed and gentled as she came down from her climax–the best, most intense, climax of her life.

  She felt him crawl up her body, dropping kisses along the way, causing her to shiver.

  “I lied,” he said. She frowned. “That, was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen,” he amended as he slipped the blind fold from her eyes. She blinked several times as her eyes adjusted to the light.

  “That was amazing,” she breathed. “I never knew being blindfolded would be like that.”

  “So, you like?” he asked with a sinful smile that said he already knew the answer.

  “No,” she paused trying to get him back for earlier and he frowned. “I don’t like, I love.”

  They laughed and he leaned in and kissed her. She thought she was done after the intensity of that climax, but she was wrong. As he slid into her heat a little while later, she marveled at his ability to make her feel so sated–so safe and so loved. As she drifted off to sleep in his arms, her legs tangled with his, she wanted this moment to last forever and prayed that it would.

  ~~~
  Skye woke to the sound of screaming. She shot up in bed, but before she could move any further, Nate was up and running down the stairs. She hurried out of bed and followed the terrified sounds of her son’s screams.
  Her first thought was the dreams about Kanan were back. He’d been fine for weeks; surely, they hadn’t started up again. Noah had predictive dreams since he could cogitate, but it was only when he was three and could properly describe them that she had thought there was more to it than night terrors.
  She had been extremely reluctant to admit that her son had a gift. She’d seen the way people treated Uncle Reg, and she didn’t want that for her son. It was only meeting Lauren that made her realize she could not deny what it was.
  She needed to accept it so that she could support her son properly and not make him afraid, or embarrassed, of who he was.
  Entering his room, she found Nate on his knees beside Noah, his big hand gently brushing his hair off his head. Noah was awake, but, as always, after one of these dreams, he looked groggy and confused.
  Some dreams he’d have and not awaken. He would just happily recount it in the morning as if it was nothing. Some were more vivid and sometimes he awoke upset or fearful for the person he had dreamt of, as with the dream with Kanan, until all of a sudden, Noah told them it was fine now.
  Tonight must have been a bad one.
She crawled onto the bed and wrapped her son in her arms, easing him back against her, his little head next to her heart. It always calmed him listening to her heartbeat, even as a baby.
  She waited until he was breathing more peacefully. Nate went to get up and leave, but Noah reached for his hand.
  “Will you stay, please, Nate?” her son said in a small voice. The sound revealing how much the dream had upset him.
  “Of course, buddy,” Nate said, catching her eye and easing onto the bed with them. She could see it meant a lot to Nate that Noah wanted him close. His dark eyes were so expressive and warm when he looked at Noah.
  They sat like that for about five minutes until Noah started to speak. Skye always found it was better to just let Noah get it all out before speaking. What he said, though, turned her stomach to lead.
  “The bad people who tried to steal my dreams, they have Sly and his friend. They were trying to help the girl but it was a trap and now they have them. They have them in a hospital bed like I was in and they are hurting them.” Skye felt Nate go rigid at her side and her eyes slid to him. His face had turned to stone, his eyes cold.
  She hugged her son tight and realized he’d finished.
  “Do you know where, honey?” she asked, “Or when?”
  “It was yesterday. I don’t know where, exactly, but it is close. I can see writing and it is all funny. I can’t read it.”
  “Is it in this country, buddy?” Nate asked him softly, despite the anger brewing in his eyes.
  “I think so. They all speak English and sound funny like, Pop.”
  “You mean Welsh?”
  “Yes, like that.”
  Nate got up and then lent down to kiss Noah’s head and then Skye’s. “I’m going to call Zack. I will be back soon. Don’t worry, buddy. I’ll find out what is going on and we’ll sort it out.” Noah looked up at Nate, “I know you will, Nate, you’re a superhero.” Skye watched as Nate smiled and ruffled Noah’s hair, “You bet I am, buddy.”
  Skye watched Nate leave and marvelled at his calm manner. If what Noah said was right, Sly was in big trouble. She prayed it wasn’t true, but she also knew her son hadn’t been wrong so far.
