We’re doing this Award Show style. Let’s get right to it, shall we?

I thank the Lord God Almighty, Jesus Christ, for his love and sacrifice every day of my life. Victory goes to God, always and forever, and this sweet book is His domain. He used it to carry me through the massively difficult season of Coronavirus and inspired me to finish despite all the madness. So, He’s MVP, and that’s that.

The award for Most Supportive and All-Around Good Guy goes to my husband, Jimmy. You powered through this with unprecedented enthusiasm for someone who never reads young adult romance books. I know that it was all because you love me.

The triple-threat award for Bubbliest Humans and Most Efficient Havoc-Wreakers go to my three children. EV, Sammy, and Gideon, you are and always will be the reason I was brave enough to do anything. Also, the reasons I am certain of how much the world needs buckets of hope and cuteness.

The award for Biggest Jan-di Park Fan goes to Alicia Groff. You get bonus stars for being so cute and arting really well all the time. If not for you, we wouldn’t have the adorablest member of the JSLP cast, who is clearly Jan-di.

The award for Earliest Member of Team Cale goes to Givens Lam. You also get bonus stars for being so cute and arting really well all the time. Your Jin-chokes-on-a-donut sketch will warm my heart forever. Also, to Givens and Alicia: my love life is a lot like Cale… ;)

The award for Most Helpful and Gushiest Reactions goes to Cait Elise Vandiver. I seriously don’t know how I snagged you as a beta reader AND friend, but just know, I cannot function without you now. I feel like that should read as a warning.

The award for Best Eyeballs and Softest Heart goes to my editor, Elsie Bryan. I am so abundantly blessed to have you on my team, and to know you, and to be in awe of your creations that are separate from this project but not from my heart. You’re wonderful.

The award for Most Precious Cheerleader goes to Zar Foster. Your praise was wildly undeserved and eternally appreciated. You are a beautiful soul, and I’m the luckiest person alive to have you as my partner-in-crime. (Bonus stars for arting greatly to you as well.)

The award for Absolute Most Fantabulous Cover Designer goes to Amelia Buff, who made the cover of this book. You were FAR, FAR more incredible to work with than I dared hoped for, and the results are excessively amazing! I’ll be real, I constantly STARE.

And the award for Best Listener and Beautifullest Sister goes to my sister, Sophie Aston. Your insight and love and friendship gave me lots of energy and hope while I was worrying about the aspects of this project and life in general. There is no one more perfect I could wake up and call every morning. No one can replace you.

Now, I’d love to give awards to everyone, but there are only so many (read: I’ve reached my capacity to come up with clever award titles). Honorable Mentions go to my mom, Tanja Newby and my dad, Jeff Lemire, for being supportive MY WHOLE LIFE and loving me the way I needed. To my brothers, Lucas Lemire and Travis Lemire, for giving me lots of sibling material, showing me how beautiful sacrifices can be, and filling my heart and soul with familial love. To Noliecha Reid, for loving my kids while I developed my writing skills and attempted to learn Japanese. To my Grammie, Susan Dorr, for faithfully liking, commenting, and following my author journey posts, and also faithfully liking and loving me my whole life. To all my other family members, all of whom are genuinely wonderful, unique, and precious to me. To my friends Haley Sharp and Michelle Mertes for supplying me with the most incredible friendships of my youth. Without you two, this book would never have existed. And finally, to all of the inspiring individuals on the Instagram writing community I somehow stumbled upon. Seriously, you all leave me in constant awe.

Wow, I didn’t think my acknowledgments section would be so big, but I owe this debut novel of mine to a lot of people. More than I’ve named. Thank you, everyone.

  About the Author

Piper Bee was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest. For three years, she also lived in Charleston, South Carolina, where her love of air conditioning and fried food fully blossomed. She was married as a teenager and now has three kids who are pretty good at Japanese. She loves singing, learning about other cultures, watching cheesy romantic and/or undeniably epic TV shows, and eating just, like, in general. Currently, she has a princess fantasy series and a co-authored science fiction project in the works.
