Frostbitten 2

“Alexa. Stay with me,” I thought to her. “We’ll get out of this.”
Alexa only responded with a teary gaze, and in an instant, I saw Esha’s face again. She was face down on the floor, just like I was, with someone’s knee in her back as they cuffed her. Then I felt burning hot water, and the cold from the freezing room.
Then I saw my own face.
I saw myself sleeping in my bed, smiling at Allie, standing at the top of a mountain…
When a tear fell from Alexa’s eyes, the monster in me roared. There was no way, no way that I was going to let them take her back. That man couldn’t hurt her again. I wouldn’t let him.
“Alright, we need to get them loaded into the truck. Let the others know that the mission is complete,” the soldier standing over me said.
“Rodger that.”
I clenched my teeth, feeling a burning rage swirl inside of my chest, then a similar feeling of being electrocuted burned through me again, leaving me numb.
“What the hell?” the soldier standing over me said.
I wasn’t sure what he saw, but it clearly scared him enough to step back.
“Shit, she’s a fucking M.O.D.”
“She’s also barely conscious. Don’t worry, it’s all good.” When the soldier speaking grabbed my arm, I tensed and hissed. I wanted him to die. I wanted them all to just. Fucking. Die.
And the monster within me would help make that wish come true.
“Ah!” the soldier grabbing my arm yelped and let me go. “Shit! What the fuck is happening to ―” the man was suddenly quiet.
Then the room grew silent.
“He’s…he’s frozen…”
Those words made me smile.
With a surge of energy, I was quick to break through the metal cuffs before they could electrocute me again, then I jumped back to my feet. A second later, bullets were fired, but stopped in mid-air, and when I looked down at Alexa, I saw that her eyes and ears were now bleeding. She was using the little energy that she had left to help me, so I had to make this time count.
I needed to end these soldiers quick, and I knew exactly how to do that. The thought came natural to me, like I had done this over a million times, but I hadn’t. I didn’t even know that I had special abilities until tonight.
Flashing over to the nearest soldier, I slammed my hand into his face, instantly freezing him in seconds, then turned towards the others. Alexa was still covering me but would only be able to for so long before she passed out, so I was quick to move on.
The soldiers were terrified when they saw what I was doing. With only a single touch, I was freezing them alive, well, until they were dead. I knew that this had something to do with Alexa’s venom, but as I killed them, I wondered when I actually developed this ability. It must’ve taken some time to set in, which was why I was a normal vampire at first, but it seemed as if after only a few weeks, the venom may have realtered my DNA, making me an M.O.D.
Reaching for the last soldier, I grabbed her face and slammed her against the wall.
White glowing veins bulged from my arm, and I was sure that they were covering my face as well. I also noticed that I was feeling slightly light headed, and that my nose was bleeding.
Once the woman froze over, she crumbled into chunks of ice on the floor, and then I stepped back.
Looking down at my arms again, I saw that my veins were fading and going back to normal under my skin, then I turned to look over my shoulder to find that Alexa was unconscious on the floor. “Alexa.”

I wasn’t sure of what I was supposed to do, but I knew that we couldn’t stay at the mansion. The soldiers would be back, and probably with more backup. Maybe even more M.O.D.’s, and I really wasn’t looking forward to running into any more of those.
After removing the bullets from Alexa’s body and checking on Allie, I ran upstairs and began packing a bag.
I grabbed her a few random clothes, then me, and then threw essentials like toothpaste, and towels into the mix. I really wasn’t good at fast packing, so I hoped that the things I grabbed would do. I wasn’t even sure of where we would be going, but I knew that we were leaving. Hell, I’d pull over on the side of the rode and we could sleep in the car for all I cared. As long as we were far away from here.
I left the bathroom with a black garbage bag full of whatever and started down the hall for the steps when I smelled a familiar scent. A scent like Loren’s, only there was more than one.
My eyes widened, and I rushed downstairs and into the kitchen where three men surrounded Alexa. Two were on their knees, looking over her, and the other was standing at her side with his hands in his pockets and his back to me. He wore his dark hair down in curls to his shoulders, and he stood in his expensive clothing with authority.
The man raised his chin. “Looks like you two will need a place to stay for a while.”
Neither of the other men paid me any mind as they looked Alexa over. One picked her up and cradled her into his arms while the other grabbed Allie.
When the two of them started walking towards the broken glass doors, I took a step forward, but stopped when the man in front of me turned around with glowing sun colored eyes, just like Loren’s.
“You must be the girl that Loren told me about.” He slightly tilted his head to the side. “Nice to meet you. My name is Argus, and we have much to discuss.”
