“Well,” she sighed, taking a long, sultry sip, “when you put it that way…”
They laughed, and clinked glasses again, and peered at each other, and then the clear night sky. All night long beachgoers had been setting off fireworks, ones that snapped, crackled or popped, and others that lit up the cloudless black sky. As if that wasn’t enough, the Seaside City Council had promised a fireworks spectacular at the stroke of midnight, and Derek didn’t want to miss it for the world.
“I can’t believe you did all this,” she said, admiring the champagne bucket and noisemakers. “You really are an old softy, huh Derek?”
“I always told you that,” he murmured, taking her in his arms as the countdown neared. “You just never believed me until now.”
“I know, I know,” she teased, punching him playfully in the ribs. “Old sourpuss Sage.”
“I never said you were old,” he teased back, smothering her in kisses until she pushed him away.
“Not until midnight,” she warned and, as if on cue, his watch alarm beeped.
“Ten,” he began immediately, watching her join in as they continued together until they reached the final, climactic moments: “3, 2, 1… Happy New Year!”
The streets erupted in cheers, and so did their balcony! Between sloppy kisses and spilling toasts, between noisemakers and blowing horns, the town of Seaside was a mad, happy, celebratory cacophony. And as if the firecrackers and blow horns and sloppy kisses and popping corks weren’t enough, fireworks lit up the sky. Brilliant blues and powerful purples and sizzling streaks of red and silver illuminated the streets, and ocean waves, below.
Derek chuckled and hugged and kissed and danced with Sage, feeling like a little boy who’d just slid down the banister to arrive under the tree on Christmas morning. And, in a way, his life with Sage in Seaside, Florida, was a gift – the greatest gift of all.
He stood, hands on the railing, watching the fireworks fizzle and fade, explode and pop, his own noise blowers and horns and even champagne forgotten. He turned after the grand finale, surprised to see the balcony deserted save for tired streamers and winking Christmas lights and overturned plastic glasses and an empty champagne bottle.
“Hey,” he said, turning, to find Sage leaning back against the bed. Her silver skirt lay on the floor, hiding her overturned heels and mingling with the black blouse she’d worn that night. Her breasts, small and boyish and bare, peered back at him under Sage’s sexy grin.
“Happy New Year, Derek,” she murmured, gently toying with her fingers between the waistband of her sheer black panties. “If you want to see some more fireworks,” she purred, wriggling from her panties until they dangled carelessly around one flawless ankle, “I’m feeling something sizzling between my legs!”
He chuckled, tossing his plastic glass over the railing at his back. She laughed and spread her legs demurely as he stripped in the doorway, making short work of his black tank top and gray pants before tugging off his black boxer briefs.
“Guess it’s time to get started on my New Year’s resolution,” he said, kneeling between her legs and peppering her knees, then her inner thighs, before moving to her quivering belly.
“Yeah, what’s that?”
“To have you for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day,” he teased, rising up to slide first one then the other nipple between his lips before brushing her lips with his own.
“Every day?” she murmured, leaning up on one elbow to peer back at him as he climbed next to her on the bed. “That’s a pretty tall order.”
“I’m young,” he reminded her, drawing her close. “I think I’m up to it.”
“I suppose we’ll see,” she said, pushing him onto his back and straddling him happily. “But first, I have a resolution of my own.”
“Oh yeah?” he chuckled as she wriggled around on his belly. “What’s that?”
“To see how many times I can make you come before sunrise,” she chuckled, leaning down to kiss him.
“Now that’s a tall order,” he murmured, a new kind of fireworks brewing between their naked, fragrant bodies. “But I think if we work together, we can both make our resolutions come true!”
