I am further indebted to the City of Loveland Museum-Gallery for its many fascinating and informative exhibits.

  My description of the terrible winter of 1886-87, which was believed to be a second Ice Age (!), was gleaned from almost all of the above-mentioned as well as the web site:

  A word about the author...

  Andrea Downing was born in New York but has lived most of her life in the U.K. where she received her master’s degree from Keele University. She has co-edited a poetry magazine and worked both in publishing and education.

  In 2008 she returned to live in the U.S.A. and visits the West frequently, the area of the country she loves best.
