The Wolf With The Silver Smile (The Silver Series)

As she stepped near to the car, her father's eyes met hers.
"Hey Morgan sweetie how are you? Thank God you are alright we have been looking for you everywhere."
Her father had changed, she could see flecks of grey in his short hair, his eyes were rimmed red which meant he had been drinking the night before as usual, and as such his face was always a red, today was no different. Wearing jeans and t-shirt with his jacket undone, he looked confident, much more confident than she did.
"Now you found me, what do you want?" His eyes widened, she had never spoken so openly to him, normally she would look down and avoid his gaze so today he was surprised. The streets were quiet, with few people in the near vicinity.
"I just want to take you home where you belong."
"No, I am home. I am where I belong."
This time his eyes widened but not in surprise this time it was anger. "What?"
"That's my little Pixie, keep going. I want to know if Lucifer is here."
"I said no and that is what I want you to tell Lucifer when you go home. I am not coming home; I want nothing to do with you." Lucky was right, even though she was still terrified just saying the words to his face was making her feel stronger.
"Look I know we had some problems, but we're your family and family stick together." His fists were clenching and unclenching, his face blanching at her words, and she could feel the anger radiating off of him. She saw the men with her father sliding round behind Ben and the other's. Steven had gone to Lucky's side.
"I don't recognize any of you as family, my families behind me. They actually care about me as I do them." Morgan understood what she had missed all of these years, the love, happiness and acceptance of a real family.
"I have a gift for you." He opened the trunk and looked to be rooting through; he accidentally dropped the whip to the cold tarmac of the road.
"Are you sure you don't want to come willingly?" Even though she knew what he was doing, seeing the whip that had been used on her day and night for years was too much, she felt herself freeze until the little voice in her head joined her.
"Breathe little Pixie, he's trying to scare you. Remember he can't hurt you anymore. Pick it up, take his hold on you away, and remember I am with you." she stepped forward with Seb flanking her, she picked up the whip, her father just stared at her as she smiled, moving back with the whip in her hand.
"The answer is still no." Her voice was now louder and clearer, offering a confidence that she didn’t feel.
"You silly little girl, he will come for you and it won't be long now. We know where you are and when he finds out you have been consorting with animals, shit you will be in a world of trouble. If you run we will always find you."
"I am not running anywhere, when he arrives I will be waiting." When had she decided to fight? It didn’t matter the words were true, she would fight.
Morgan was concentrating so hard that she didn't hear what Steven said to Lucky, she did however see Lucky smile sweetly, before kicking him in the balls. As he bent down, she kicked him in the face hard and he fell back spilling the Taser from his pocket, she calmly picked it up.
"Look Ben I have a new toy." Morgan listened to Lucky's words and wished she could be like that, all strong and capable, Lucky was actually enjoying this.
When Morgan turned back, Seb had her father pinned face down on the trunk of the car, Ben had Andrew; Theo had somehow knocked two other men out. What the hell, she had missed it, Nicky was laughing in her head.
"That's the way of the wolves Pixie, welcome to the family."
Ben had clearly had enough. "This is how it is going to work, if you want to live then you need to go home and I would suggest that you stay away here and your sister. Morgan is now part of our family and we don't like people upsetting her. Now you (looking at Andrew) are marked as being Nicky's to deal with, you too will also be for Nicky to deal with I would imagine (looking at her father), but the rest of you are fair game. It is now your choice, you have ten hours to pack up and leave, or we will start hunting and believe me when I say you don't want that, although we need a work out so maybe you should stay."
As the cars came around the corner, the first stopped next to her and Lucky.
"Ladies get in the car." Nicky was driving with Cane blindfolded next to him while another car followed them. As they drove off, she saw four of the pack shift into wolves in front of some suddenly worried looking men. God she felt so exhilarating as though a weight had lifted from her. She leaned over and planted a loving kiss on Nicky's cheek.
"I did it, I really did." Her voice was excited and amazed, her face flush.
"Always knew you would do it little Pixie." She saw Nicky smiling from the rear view mirror, he had believed in her all along so now maybe she ought to start believing in herself.
"Thank you."
"Any time Pixie, anytime."
Chapter 1 2
They all met back at Ben's, Sylvia and Leyland were waiting with the boys who were clearly happy to see their parents. Now that she knew them better Morgan could see the subtle differences, not in looks but behavior, Logan was always calmer than the other boys, Ethan was just trouble but so sweet and always smiling whereas Oliver was so boisterous he needed constant food to keep his energy levels up.
The twins were also waiting, May rushed to Lucky and gave her a hug and Ellie did the same to Ben. The scene was so sweet and then just as she couldn't take seeing anymore kindness, May turned and hugged her. Morgan felt so touched by their kindness; this was a family and one that had accepted her.
Sylvia had made lunch for them all; apparently she cooked when she was worried although Morgan wasn't convinced for she always seemed to be cooking. Ben declared that now was family time, planning time would come later. Cane had gone to the pack doctors where May was desperate to head off to after stating that she wanted to see a human patient. That was until she realized that said patient was Morgan's brother and she was acting all clinical forgetting to be human, she apologized but Morgan was laughing.
"Nicky I want to see if Cane's okay and we could take him some food." Nicky stopped smiling and frowned, she knew it was based on his fear for her and not a demonstration of ownership.
"Can I go as well mom, I promise to come back when Nicky does, please."
How could a mother say no to that, Morgan wanted to give in to her and she wasn't her mother, but Lucky gave the decision to her anyway? "Morgan?"
"That's fine; I was thinking that May might be able to explain how we can now talk telepathically." Everyone stopped and looked at her and then Nicky, who shrugged.
"Hey I don't know what going on it just happened, not that I am complaining."
Sylvia looked between them both. "But you haven't you know…. or have you?" She looked at the girls trying to be discreet; it was wasted when May answered. "If you haven't had the mating ceremony it shouldn't have happened."
"I can't hear Morgan." Ben was thoroughly confused, as alpha he could hear everyone, other pack members could hear those in the vicinity, although no one had informed Morgan of that so she failed to understand the relevance in his words.
"Why would I hear you Ben?"
May took her hand and sat her down. "Once you mate with the pack you get to hear the other members. Nicky will be the loudest and the one you can hear over the longest distance, but Ben's will be next because he is the alpha and then it will be those closest to you. When we get back, could I interview you on what it's like and if we explore when and how it happened, we might find the reasoning, there will be an explanation somewhere."
"MAY." Morgan had seen May at work before; when something interested her, she immediately started interviews and experiments. "Sorry mom."
"It's fine Lucky, how about we set some time aside in the next few days when everything is more settled?" May was nodding enthusiastically, Morgan was relieved that everyone seemed to accept her; she had feared that people would resent her for bringing trouble to the
pack regardless of how many times people had reassured her.
When they arrived at the pack doctor, Cane had just finished having his arm set, his face was still a mess but cleaned up he was more recognizable.
"Hey Morgan." She came to stand in front of him, bending so that she was eye level with him.
"I missed you Cane; you should have come with me." He leaned his forehead against hers with a weak smile.
"It doesn't matter, this way you had a twelve hour head start."
"How?"
"I told them that I had decided they were right and I had beaten you and locked you in the garage. They didn't notice till morning."
"And then what?" She knew before she even asked, through the bruises she could see a scar from his eye, down his cheek ending just above his lip.
She saw his gaze drop, as a child she had taken the brunt of the beatings but she knew that Cane had taken them too, by the looks of him quite a few. "Morgan I am so sorry I didn't get you out sooner, I tried you know, three times they caught me." She hadn’t known.
"It doesn't matter I am pleased you didn’t." When he looked surprised, she carried on, "if you had succeeded I wouldn't have ended up here."
Cane nodded, he was a male version of here before she had to disguise herself, taller than her but still short by a man's standard, Cane had always been thin, though mainly because her father and Andrew took most of the food. His green eyes matched hers, she always assumed they got them from their mother, his blond hair was cropped short the way all of the Order had their hair cut, well other than Lucifer who kept his long.
"I was going to say your friends look nice except that would be a lie, they look scary as shit though they have obviously taken care of you the way a family should care for each other, and even though my eye is swollen shut the one scowling behind you genuinely seems to care about you."
Morgan turned to look at Nicky, he was indeed scowling. "Nicky, stop it." She chastised him as she playfully slapped him; he smiled at her before continuing to scowl at Cane.
"It doesn't matter what you say Pixie, until we can confirm he is not here to harm you, he stays under guard." Nicky's voice was harsh and Cane didn’t miss it.
"Surely you don't plan to guard him twenty four seven?"
"No, but they will." Morgan turned to see four of Ben's warriors stood near the door.
"What the hell Nicky, I don't think so." Morgan was insulted for her brother, she trusted Cane.
"Morgan wait! Think about it." Cane drew her attention, even though he focused on Nicky. "If they guard me, will you still have enough men to guard Morgan because this hasn’t finished?"
"Damn right we do, here we have men and women all are as valued as much as the men."
"Good that's how it should be, Morgan let them guard me. Your man is right they don't know who I am and neither do you, five months is a long time, I could have changed."
As she looked at Nicky and then Cane, she sighed. "Have you changed Cane, are you really here to hurt me?"
"No but…"
"Then that's enough for me." She kissed his cheek taking in her big brother sat in a stark white room though the center held more comforts than a normal hospital with recliner chairs and bright bedding.
Nicky came to stand behind her, she could feel his presence as he closed in on her. "Do you still trust me Pixie?"
She nodded. "Always."
"Good because it's not enough for me, and it won't be until they are all gone from your life." He turned to Cane.
"Now you need to start by telling me exactly what's been happening for the last five to seven months, I want to know everything including who is here, who is coming and when?"
As Cane nodded Morgan sat down to listen. By the end of it, she was gob smacked. "Why have they tried so hard to find me, why hasn't Lucifer just picked someone else as his wife?"
"He thinks you were sent to tempt the whole congregation, and that you alone can bring down the world and turn everyone to God."
"But why?" She had sat on the bed meant for Cane, who had chosen to stay in the chair, she had a feeling she would not like the truth.
"When you were really little you dreamed of wolves, you used to talk in your sleep and say that the wolf would take down Jacob."
Morgan didn't remember that and she had no idea who Jacob was. "Cane I really don't understand."
"You won't remember, you were too young but at that time Lucifer was called Jacob. They used to watch you sleep, dad, Lucifer and at least two others. When you kept saying the same thing, he called the congregation together and told everyone that Lucifer had come to him in a dream and told him to change his name. He did that in hope to change your dreams but the very next night your dream changed and you kept saying the wolf would kill Lucifer. He then told dad that he had to drive God out of you."
Nicky had watched Cane and Morgan as they talked, he could tell her head was reeling but Cane was telling the truth, she was also looking at him now, not her brother. Unlike Cane, Morgan knew what her dreams meant and so did Nicky but where she was scared at the implications, he was ready to fulfill the prophecy.
"Enough for tonight Pixie, why don't you go and find May and make sure she is behaving herself while I talk to Cane?"
"Okay but don't hurt him Nicky, he is all the family I have left."
"I won't hurt him unless he gives me a reason to but he isn't all you have left, he is just one of many family members you now have Pixie."
Smiling, she stood on tiptoes to kiss him before she left them to talk.
Nicky didn't waste time. "Right I want you to tell me which members of the Order are here now and who is still to come?"
"I will but first I need to know something, I know I am a piss poor brother but believe it or not I tried to protect her and I am the only one here to ask."
"Are you asking for my intentions? If so you are right, you are a piss poor brother but after meeting your other family you are the best of a bad bunch, and quite frankly I have no intentions of ever talking to your father, except maybe to give a few truths while I am killing him. Is that a problem?"
"You will have to kill him to get rid of him, and if I can I want to help and yes that was what I was leading to, what are your intentions to my sister because she has already been through so much and I want her to finally be happy?"
Nicky felt his wolf sigh with him, how did he feel about her? He didn't want to answer to anyone, yet he wanted to say what he was feeling. "I never thought I would say this but I love her with everything I have. I won't promise not to hurt her, because as far as relationships go I don't have a track record, but I would never hurt her intentionally."
"What do you mean; you don't have a good track record?"
Nicky thought about this before answering. "I said I don't have a track record period, however I won't let anyone hurt her and I will take care of her."
As Nicky watched Cane, he seemed satisfied with that. "Ask me whatever you like, I will tell you what I know, shit; hook me up to a lie detector."
To this Nicky smiled. "I don't have to, your scent will change if you lie and believe me, I will know of that happens."
He saw Cane turning it in his head. "What the hell are you all? Of course, Cane had not seen any of them shift to wolves; he had been blindfolded when the others did.
"I'm the wolf that's going to kill Lucifer."
He partially shifted so that Cane could see his arm as the wolf. "I will also kill you without a seconds thought if you hurt her."
"Shit, you really are the wolf." Cane leaned back and started laughing though Nicky saw his pain. "Any chance you can heal me quicker, I want to be part of this."
"Afraid not and no offence but I don't trust you enough."
He saw the disappointment on Cane's face. "Just so you know, we have a lot of land here, when you leave here you will go to a house on the other side of the land, that way if you are planning something it will be contained away from the others including Morgan."
>
"Agreed, what do you want to know?"
Chapter 1 3
Morgan and Nicky arrived at his house and although it was dark of there was a sense of peace. Even though she had only been here a couple of times she had liked what she had seen, it had a real cabin in the forest feel, which is essentially what it was. With an open plan, lounge and kitchen she loved the wide open spaces, it was lined with wood throughout and had a matching floor. To prevent the appearance of too much wood, Nicky had rugs throughout and some lovely animal photos on the wall. She knew from previous visits that Nicky had taken the photos and that he also had a little dark room at the back of the house.
