“Was it a family name?” She stepped closer.
“I don’t have a clue.”
She moved to stand face to face with me. Her hazel eyes peering up at me turning to a softer green right in front of me. “Where’s your family, Onyx?”
“Define family, Collateral,” I stated, standing in place but feeling the walls close in on us. We were on serious uncharted territory here.
Like in a trance, she watched me before shaking her head. “What do you do for a living? What is your business?”
With my left hand, I reached out and tilted her chin to me. “Do you really care, Collateral?”
“I don’t think selling babies is legal in America.”
I sighed, finding her amusing. “You would be correct. Buying them isn’t legal either,” I reminded her that her sister wasn’t upstanding in her ways of seeking a child either. I didn’t know why I cared to add that, but I did.
“Is that the only source of income you have?”
Dropping my left hand and removing my right, I reached out and gripped her hips. “Collateral, let’s stop the small talk. You don’t give a damn how I make my money nor do you care where my name comes from. In fact, if I was a betting man, I would bet the only things that run through your mind, when you’re in my presence, is how are you gonna get out of this shit and why can’t you keep your body under control.”
She gasped at my honesty. “I do not!”
“I don’t lie to you, you don’t lie to me. I see the way your nipples get hard in your shirts. The way your eyes go from golden flakes to green when I’m near you. The way you squint your eyes from time to time trying to fight the battle between your mind and body. When I undress you don’t turn around until you force yourself to. It’s okay, Collateral, I find you to be irresistible as well.”
She opened her mouth and closed it without saying a word.
“In case you’re wondering, I get hard for you too. I find every curve of your body to be beautiful, and it makes me curious as to the many ways I could make you tremble from head to toe with just my tongue. My cock is long and wide, and I imagine what it will be like as I sink inch by inch inside of you.”
Dropping my head, I teased my tongue on her neck and behind her ear, inhaling her sweet scent. Her hands came out to rest on my hips as she tilted her head to give me access.
“I should hate you,” she muttered while I took my time tasting her skin.
“You should and you probably will,” I continued to tease. “What’s more is you’ll hate yourself for the way you want me.”
Pulling away, I turned and left the room with her standing in it confused, conflicted, and turned the fuck on.

The fact that I was contemplating going into the closet, shutting the door, and bringing myself to orgasm made me certifiably crazy. How could I even think of getting off when I was some man’s collateral? The temptation was there, my entire body humming, ready for the release. Never once had a man made me weak in the knees, but that was broken the minute Onyx’s lips touched mine.
Fire. If there was one word to describe it.
This entire situation was beyond my comprehension, and even knowing one piece of the puzzle I wanted them all. Onyx was a mystery and the deadly kind, but it was so intriguing my curiosity pulled me to learn more.
He closed up when asked about his family. It was like a switched turned off behind his eyes. One moment, he was hot—the next, a wall slammed down. Not knowing one’s family also hit me the wrong way, wondering what his childhood was like. It was a topic though I was going to stay clear of for a while.
Getting to know him didn’t mean family, and it didn’t mean I was giving into him. There was much more to a person than the people who surround them. The biggest mystery was the baby and its biological mother. If I could learn that, it would be a start in learning about Onyx.
Why he intrigued me so, I wasn’t sure, but I had a few weeks to figure that out. If I was able to hold out and not let my body win the war that my mind was having with it. Being attracted to someone as hot as Onyx was a normal thing. There was absolutely nothing wrong with that. Except with that attraction came Onyx, the scary man who didn’t take shit from anyone.
Trusting him to not lie to me was one thing. Trusting him with my body and mind wasn’t going to work. My gaze shifted to the bed. The colossal all white bed with the ostentatious posts. Stepping toward the enormous piece, I ran my hand over the grooves clearly created for hooking someone to them. My eyes closed on their own accord, and my mind went elsewhere.
With my body spread eagle in the middle of the bed, I laid naked before him. My legs were bound with satin scarfs tied to the end of the bed and my wrists done in the same to the top. He covered my eyes, and my mind raced. As I remained in place, the cool air tickled my skin, making everything seem more intense—his stare, his fingers, and even the satin against my skin. God, the way he looked at me, like he was going to eat me alive, fuck me hard, and turn my world upside down for any future men, turned me on like no other.
“The many ways I’m going to make you tremble from head to toe with just my tongue,” Onyx warned just before I felt the touch of his hand on my ankle, hot and searing.
His lips started at the arch of my left foot. Softly, their warmth touched my cool skin. I pulled at my restraints, seeking more contact than the feather light caresses. His breath hit my calf before the heat of his lips pressed against the muscle that twitched at the contact. First, his tongue wet the skin before his teeth gently grazed me. His hand rested under my thigh as he licked the back side slightly before laving at the inside of my thigh. Slowly, inch by inch, his mouth explored moving up my thighs. By the time he reached my heat, I was dripping wet and more than ready for him.
He didn’t kiss me there; instead, he blew on me before sucking just above my pelvic bone. I arched, wanting him to move just a little lower. I ached for him to kiss me there. The desire coursing through me was so intense, one lick of his tongue on my sensitive folds might be exactly what I needed to be sent over the edge.
I was drawn from my thoughts as Onyx opened the door and walked back into the room. He looked directly at me, and I felt my cheeks heat from the thoughts I was just entertaining.
“You look guilty, Collateral,” he muttered, removing his shirt and tossing it to the floor by the closet door. He dropped his pants in a pile but his eyes, they never left mine.
We were stuck in place with my breaths coming uneven. My heart thundered so loudly in my ears I was afraid even he could hear it. Automatically, my eyes dropped to his boxers where his impressive bulge was growing. My mouth watered and I bit my bottom lip, trying to get my emotions under control.
He stalked toward me like a lion eyeing his prey. Every movement was deliberate, calculated, cunning, and each step he took my panties collected more moisture.
I was turned on. I was wet, saturated. All from a man, I knew in my gut, I should despise.
The closer he came to me the smaller everything else felt. This was Onyx Blake. Every time he entered a space, he commanded it.
When he reached me, he turned me around to face the bed. My back was pressed to his front, and his erection settled at the top of my ass. His height allowed his head to be over mine as his hands slid around my hips to settle over my womb. He splayed his fingers so his pinkies teased the edge of my pelvic bone.
“You taking in the bed, Collateral?”
My mouth suddenly dried, my pulse raced, and my entire body felt alive.
“You looking at it and imagining all the ways I’ll make you come between those soft sheets.”
He pressed on my front pushing us even closer together. I could feel his dick throb against my ass like it had its own pulse. He twisted his head, with his chin and nose he moved my hair behind my shoulder. I felt his tongue, hot and wet, trace from my shoulder, up my neck, to just behind my ear where he exhaled, sending shivers down my skin and trembles in my
knees.
“With your legs spread wide, I’ll open you to me. My fingers will part your pussy lips as my tongue flicks against your clit. With my thumb, I’ll trace circles over your entrance as I suck your nub. You’ll want me inside you. You’ll want my cock so deep, but I won’t simply give it to you, Collateral. You’ll earn it with your moans of pleasure as I work you up higher and higher, but never letting you go over.”
A moan escaped as I found my hips rocking to him. We had this rhythm that came naturally, and I couldn’t stop myself.
“You’ll want to come, Collateral. You’ll want to have your juices cover my face, but I won’t let you. No, Collateral, when I allow you release, it will be all over my cock while I pummel your pussy fast, hard, and with no mercy.”
God, I needed a shower. A very long and cold one. If he kept this up, I was going to turn around and kiss him. That couldn’t happen. I fought to calm my body as he kept on, and I was losing terribly. When I willed my hips to stop rocking, they refused, my clit pulsing and wanting to be touched.
His hot breaths came to my ear. “Are you wet for me, Collateral?”
“No,” I lied with my voice in a husky whisper which betrayed me, but it was the only answer I could give. If I didn’t, I’d be falling into bed with this man because my will would’ve been smashed to pieces.
He stilled and forced me to stop moving by gripping my hips hard. “Don’t lie to me, Collateral. Ever.”
On those harsh words he released me, stepping away and going to the bathroom. Moving to the bed because it was the closest thing to me, I gripped the footboard in an effort to remain standing.
What the hell was wrong with me? I agreed to stay here for my sister, but I felt like my time here might just drive me to insanity.
I listened to him move around the bathroom as I steadied myself. I needed to get my guard up. Every chance he got, Onyx Blake was changing things on me, and I didn’t feel like I knew which way was up or down at the moment.
Shaking my head and trying to stop the clenching of my pussy wanting a release that wouldn’t be soon to come, I moved to the dresser. Opening the drawers, I found only black silk lingerie for sleepwear.
Boldly, I went to the other set of drawers where Onyx got his clothing from after first snagging a pair of panties from what I guess would be considered my drawers. Grabbing a pair of his boxers and a white t-shirt I found in a different drawer, I changed.
Hearing him spit after brushing his teeth, I felt the anxiety creep in that I wasn’t in the clothing he apparently wanted me to wear. The problem was I couldn’t lay in that bed, with that man, wearing those seductive clothes. While Onyx may turn me on physically, emotionally he scared me to death.
He entered the room and immediately drank me in. Rushing past him, he reached out and grabbed my arm, stopping me.
“While the idea of those scraps of fabric in your dresser turn me on, I gotta say, Collateral, I like you in my clothes almost as much as I’m gonna like it when I have you naked beneath me.”
The minty scent of his toothpaste hit my nostrils as I tried to absorb his words. Everything I did only seemed to drive him more. I was in over my head and unsure of what would come next.
I made it to the bathroom to relieve myself. My eyes constantly looked to the door wishing it was still present. Finishing up, I washed my face, brushed my teeth, and made my way back to him.
How would I get through the next few weeks with this undeniable attraction? I wanted to hate him for holding my sister’s baby over my head. I wanted to run away from here as bad as I wanted him to make me come. It was this crazy war inside me. A battle that I felt would have no winning side.
No, somehow I felt when Onyx Blake finished with me, I was going to lose more than I even had to give.
Bravely, I stepped out into the bedroom. The lights were turned out, the door was closed, and I didn’t see Onyx anywhere. Taking this as my moment of freedom, I blew out a breath before I made my way to the bed. Maybe if I climbed in and fell asleep before he returned, I wouldn’t have to be cuffed or tied.
It didn’t take long until I fell fast asleep.
Waking up, the morning light came into the white room burning my eyes. After a few moments, I adjusted and got up to go to the bathroom. What hit me first was the absence of Onyx, and I wasn’t sure how I felt about that. The second was I wasn’t tied to the bed.
Taking care of bathroom business, I came back out into the room to find myself still alone. Before I had time to sort out whether Onyx actually slept in here or not, I had the sharp pain in my stomach of hunger that hit me like a punch to the gut.
We didn’t eat yesterday.
In all the craziness, I had barely gotten through a few bites of breakfast before the man showed up and the day went to hell. With so many emotions running through me, we didn’t eat. Onyx didn’t eat, and that seemed to bother me in a different way I wasn’t used to.
Looking to the door, it was closed and panic filled me. If he locked me in here with no food and only the water in the bathroom, what was I going to do? I was already feeling weak from lack of substance. Going to the dresser, I snagged a bra before going into the closet. The elegant dresses caught my eye first. The deep blues and greens were absolutely breathtaking and had price tags to match.
The pit of my stomach fell. These clothes. Onyx didn’t have time to get me set up this quickly. What if they belonged to another woman? One who was supposed to be here instead of me. They could be from a long-time lover or a wife who’s maybe dead.
Just because others thought Onyx didn’t bring people into his home, didn’t mean that he actually didn’t. With a man like him, he could have anyone that he wanted, and I was pretty sure there would be a huge line of takers for a round with him.
It didn’t sit well because I didn’t like the thought of wearing clothes intended for another woman. Nor the thought that I wasn’t the first woman here with him under his roof.
Irrational thinking was becoming a norm for me, and it had only been a little over a week. But I couldn’t push the thoughts of others wearing clothes he had for me. Instead, I pulled down one of Onyx’s button-up light gray shirts and rolled up the sleeves to my elbows. My body swam in the thing, but it was comfortable.
Rummaging through his drawers, which he probably wouldn’t like if he knew, I struck gold finding a pair of black sweatpants that he’d cut into shorts. Slipping them on, they looked more like pants on me, but I made them work by tying them tight around the waist and rolling them up a bit. Damn he was large.
At the closed door, I paused as the fear I would be stuck wove around me tightening its grasp. With my hand on the cold metal of the silver handle, I turned the knob to find it unlocked. Not trapped. The relief washed over me as I started the descent to the first floor and the kitchen.
The house was so quiet it gave me chills, and I wrapped my arms around myself to shake off the feelings.
In the kitchen, I didn’t find Ellen Sue like I expected. I wondered where she was, but decided I needed some sort of nourishment before I tried to make a plan for what would happen next.
Everything halted for a moment as memories assaulted me from yesterday morning. The man bleeding all over the floor, his screams and tears. The ruthlessness of Onyx not allowing anyone to come into his home that he didn’t want and him showing absolutely no mercy or care whatsoever.
There wasn’t one drop of red anywhere in the kitchen. Not where it splattered on the walls. Not where it pooled on the floor. Not on the countertop where the man’s fingers were detached from his body. Nothing. It was like it never happened and was a figment of my imagination.
Everything was pristine and it was a bit eerie, almost a ghost of what happened lingering in the air. Shaking my head to clear my thoughts, I made my way over to the refrigerator, opening it to all the colors this home desperately needed.
Finding a yogurt and some fruit, I searched for granola and found it in the large walk-in pantry off behind
the kitchen table. I didn’t even notice it yesterday. It made me wonder what other secrets were hidden in this house, and did I really want to know. Probably not.
There was a chair at the island in the middle of the room, but it was also where a lot of the blood had been, and the thought of eating right there didn’t appeal to me, so I moved to the table. The screech of the chair echoed through the big room making me feel unbelievably small in the space.
Glancing to the clock, I noticed it was only ten in the morning. I wondered whether Malcom had transferred the money to Onyx or not. Never having asked my sister about their finances before, but knowing he did have it, I still worried he wouldn’t have access to that kind of money that fast. If he didn’t pay, what would happen to me and to my sister. Also, it was this nagging deep in my belly—what would happen to their baby?
While the child wasn’t part of our family yet, my sister obviously was attached in her heart. Seeing her fall apart like that, I knew I’d do anything I could to give her this wish. Now, I had to hope Malcom would do his part so that Onyx didn’t tip the scales in a way none of us could come back from.
“Good morning!” Ellen Sue announced, coming into the room. It startled me so bad, the hand holding my yogurt squeezed, sending the creamy substance all over my hand and the table. “Oh dear.”
Scrambling, I reached for a napkin in the center of the table and began wiping it up. “Sorry, I didn’t know you were here.”
Ellen Sue came over with a washrag and helped clean up the mess while I washed my hands.
“I didn’t mean to startle you, Torryn. Here, let me make you something.” She started flitting around the kitchen faster than I could move back to the table.
“No, please don’t. I’ll eat this and if I’m still hungry I’ll get another. Please don’t make anything.”
