Connors' Devils (Devil's Riot MC Book 5)
Page 3
Those are the nights I dream of being between two men who caress every inch of my body, men who I know I can never have. They wouldn’t want someone as damaged as I am. I mean, if they were to really look at me, they’d see not just the physical scars but the mental ones that Nick gave me.
No matter how much I try to be a good mom, and he might think I’m great, at the end of the day I know the truth. I’m not worthy of his love. Of anyone’s. Nick saw to that.

I can’t believe Doc decided to dodge coming back to check on me, leaving my care to the doctor working the night shift. I’d been pissed when Jordan walked in with the doctor, not once looking up as she relayed Connors’s message. I kept my calm until she left the room, then I went off on the doctor who came in with her. He was a fuckin’ douchebag, looking down on me like I was beneath him. The fucker was lucky he didn’t get punched in the face.
I had been able to get him to discharge me. I didn’t want to be here another minute. Dragon could handle anything they could if I needed something done. And if he couldn’t, I’d send him after our woman and she could deal with it then.
Didn’t take me long after Doctor Douchebag left to realize why Doc left without coming back here. She needed to get to her son, a son I still need to inform Dragon about. Once we get back to the clubhouse, I’ll show him the file and let him see what we’re dealing with. I know it won’t change his feelings for her, but he needs to know so he can get the anger out before we approach her.
Funny thing is her son is in the after-school program we set up with the club. That’s one thing I know for a fact Dragon is gonna be pissed about when he finds out.
He loves that kid.
Every time Dragon sees Logan, he gets this big smile, and for him, that’s something. He’s not one to smile. Hasn’t since the accident.
Shaking my head, I glance over at my brother who seems to be lost in thought. I clear my throat to grab his attention. “How long do you think it will take them to discharge me?” I ask jokingly.
Shouldn’t take long with the way you cussed that asshole out, he signs, smirking in approval.
“The douche deserved it. Hell, did you see the way Jordan couldn’t get out of here fast enough? I wonder if it has anything to do with him. Swear when I get back to my computers, I’m gonna look into her,” I inform him.
Nodding his head in agreement he signs, Yeah, let me know what you find. I guarantee she’s our sister.
“I agree. Also, when we get to the club, I need to show you something. You might be pissed I didn’t share it with you before, but you’ll get over it. Fact is, it really wasn’t my business to share. Hell, the only reason I’m sharing it now is you deserve to see it before Twister asks us to bring the file to church,” I tell him.
If it has anything to do with Doc and why she wouldn’t meet my eyes, I’ll get over it, he signs.
“We’ll see,” I mutter as I lean my head back and wait for someone to bring my discharge papers and let me out of here. Fuck, I hate being laid up.
“You’ve got to be fuckin’ kidding me,” Dragon growls, throwing the file I’d handed him the moment we got back to the clubhouse. “How could she have been married to Hydro?” I don’t move from my chair as he slams his fist through the wall, leaving a hole behind.
“I take it you finished reading the file?” I ask.
“Oh, I read the whole fuckin’ thing. And before you ask, this doesn’t change a damn thing. Connors is our woman. Ours. Her and her son. Fuck, how did I not realize the resemblance between Logan and her? All this time I thought he was Emerson’s kid. My mind is all over the place,” Dragon mutters as he runs his hands through his hair, making a noise in his throat. I’m sure his talking as loud as his outburst was had to hurt. I fuckin’ hate he can’t talk without pain, but sometimes it’s the only way he can get a point across.
“I wasn’t even gonna ask, but are you pissed I didn’t share this before now?” I ask, needing to know what else is on his mind.
I should be pissed at you. She’s ours and you kept this from me, but I get why you didn’t share. I also get why we gotta share with the rest of the brothers but fuck, Gadget, she doesn’t deserve to be caught up in the middle of this war with the Dragons Fire MC, Dragon signs, giving up on using his voice.
“Yeah, Drag, I get it,” I say, wincing as I stand up. My body feels like it’s on fuckin’ fire right now due to the pain. I’ll take something for it once we’re out of church. “Come on, let's get this out of the way so I can catch some sleep.” Moving toward the door, I clasp my hand on his shoulder.
Slowly, I make my way to the room where church is held and a thought pops in my head. Does Connors know we run the program her son is in? With her working at the hospital, it has to be hard being a single parent raising a child, even with Emerson’s help. The more I think about it, the more I begin to plot a way to get Connors to see the two of us again.
“What the hell are you plotting?” Dragon’s voice breaks through my thoughts.
“Oh, I’ll fill you in after church, but I’ve got a plan on how we reel our woman in.”
“Spit it out now.”
“We’re gonna have a parents night at the afterschool program. She wouldn’t want to miss out on something like that for her son and it’ll be a way for us to speak to her.” Smirking, I walk ahead of him, not giving him a chance to say anything else, knowing he’ll agree with me.
The moment I walk into church, cheers fill the room as all the brothers welcome me back. I make my way to my chair and sit, placing the file on the table.
“Alright, now that we’re all here, we’ve got shit to discuss,” Twister says. “But I’d like to start by saying, Gadget, it’s good to have you sitting at this table again. Don’t know what we’d do without you.”
“Thanks, Prez, I feel like shit right now but I’ll be right as rain soon enough. Now, let’s get started so I can get some shut-eye. Those hospital beds definitely don’t have shit on a Serta, that’s for sure.”
Laughter fills the room for a moment before everyone goes quiet as we begin going over details, starting with what happened at the docks when Rage was shot. Which I didn’t even fuckin’ know about.
Fuck, this war needs to end and it’s only just beginning. I have a feeling this war is about to get personal for Dragon and me. I only hope no one gets hurt in the process. We’ve already lost enough in our lives, we can’t lose the one woman I know we can give our hearts to.

Connors
“You’ve got to be freakin’ kidding me,” I mutter, removing the phone from my ear after listening to the voicemail Jordan left me letting me know what that dummy of a man did. I can’t believe the doctor working the night shift let him leave.
I mean, the damn man did just have surgery to remove a bullet from his chest, for God’s sake. He should still be in a hospital bed, not going to that damn clubhouse to do God knows what with whoever will do it with him.
Holy mother of pig shit, I swear I sound like a jealous girlfriend at the thought of him— or Dragon, for that matter— being with some skanky ass bitch of a clubwhore. I’ve had my share of dealing with them and at the time I didn’t freaking care. It meant Nick wasn’t hurting me when he was with them. But this is different.
“What are you muttering about over there?” Emerson asks as she walks into the living room. We spent the evening watching the new Aladdin movie with Logan before he fell asleep against me. These are the times I cherish. He won’t be so little or sweet for long.
“I just grabbed my phone to shoot an email over to HR to request time off and saw I had a voicemail from the hospital. Ended up being the nurse I told you about, Jordan, letting me know the night doctor discharged one of my patients who just had surgery. The man should still be in the hospital, not off gallivanting around the clubhouse getting his rocks off,” I ramble out. Dammit to hell, I need to learn when to shut my mouth, especially since Emerson
starts laughing so hard she bends at the waist to catch her breath.
“Oh, my fucking God. I knew it. You have a thing for Gadget,” she says, still laughing.
“How did you know I was talking about Gadget?”
“Umm, duh, because I’m friends with Cleo and the rest of the women. Kenny and Lynsdey are actually who stepped in to run the afterschool program for the guys who usually run it,” she informs me.
“The guys who usually run it? I thought . . . ” I don’t even finish my sentence as her words dawn on me. Someone please slap me! “You mean to tell me the instructors for the program Lo goes to are Gadget and Dragon?”
“Yep.”
“Dammit, how did I not know this? Wait, don’t answer that I know the answer. It’s because I’m a horrible mom that works all the damn time and doesn’t have time in the afternoons to pick my own child up from a program that he loves. God, I need to quit working at the hospital,” scolding myself more than talking to Emerson.
“You know, you could always open your own practice in town instead of working at the hospital,” Emerson suggests.
“It takes just as much work opening a practice as it does to work in the hospital.”
“Yes, however, you’d be able to be home with Lo every night. It’s something to at least consider, Steph.”
“I don’t know.”
“Well, just think about it. But back to Gadget. Why would you care if he’s getting his rocks off?” Emerson asks, crossing her arms and giving me that look only a sister can give you. Jesus Christ, I don’t want to go into this.
“I’m not talking about this right now,” I mutter as I pull my legs up to my chest.
“Oh, no, you don’t, Stephanie Connors. You never get worked up about a guy ever and here you are flustered over one.”
“It’s not just one,” I mumble under my breath.
“What was that?”
“I said it’s nothing.”
“Fine, if you want to play it that way, I’m gonna call Gadget up and ask him over for dinner.”
“No, you won’t.”
“Oh, you know I will. I’ll invite him and Dragon both over,” she says, challenging me. Damn her.
“You better not, Em. I swear to God, I will kick your ass,” I say, flustered, knowing my face is giving me away. It always does. Emerson knows exactly what she’s doing getting me worked up the way she is.
“Like you could kick my ass. Seriously, Steph, you might think it but we both know when it comes down to kicking ass, it’s me that would wipe the floor with you. Now, either tell me or I’m calling Kenny and getting their phone numbers.”
“Ugh, fine, I said it’s not just one, okay,” I whisper yell.
“No shit,” she laughs.
“What are you laughing about? It’s not a laughing matter. I mean, how can I be attracted to two men at the same time? Even if they’re identical twins, they’re still separate people,” I huff, frustrated with my sister. And myself.
“Steph, I’m not laughing at you but at the fact you’re just now admitting it out loud. I mean, it's been, what, two years since you first met these two men and they have both been pining after you since the first day they saw you.”
“What are you talking about? They have not.”
“Oh yes, they have. I know all about how those men want you. And the way I see it, if you want both, then go for it. See what they say. Don’t let your past ruin what could be a great future with not just one man but two.”
I don’t say anything in response as I take in her words.
Could I do it? Could I have a great future with them both? Would they want that? Would they be okay with me having a child? Better yet, could they handle my past? Or the fact I was married to a member of the Dragons Fire MC.
Questions continue to form in my head. I’m not sure what the answers would be to any of them.
But right now I can’t let these questions rule my thoughts, not when I’m pissed at Gadget. He was shot and almost lost his life, yet he got himself discharged from the hospital mere hours after waking up.
I should go to that clubhouse and give him a piece of my mind.
“Em, would you mind watching Lo for a little bit? I need to go do something. I won’t be gone long,” I say, a split second after making the rash decision to go fuss at Gadget.
“Yeah, I got him. Go get your men, chick-a-dee. No worries here.”
Grabbing my purse, I head for the door. “Thanks, Em. I’ll be back shortly,” I call out over my shoulder as I leave.
This may or may not be a good idea.

Dragon
I’ve been fuming from the moment I started reading the file Gadget gave me. At first, I wanted to be pissed with him, but I know why he didn’t share. My road name isn’t Dragon because I think they’re cool or some shit. No, that’s my name for a reason. I blow and when it happens, you don’t want to be in my path. I’ve been known to torch those who cross me. I may be the club’s medic, but I know how to get my hands dirty. Hell, my hands are stained just as much as the rest of my brothers.
I wouldn’t mind staining my hands with Hydro’s blood. Not after what I read in the file. I wonder if Doc even knows the fucker’s out of jail.
Shaking my head, I try to focus on what Twister’s talking about, but my mind keeps flashing back from everything that I read to Connors’s face when I touched her arm earlier in the day. I wonder if she knows Gadget was discharged from the hospital. Fuck, I’m beginning to sound like a damn pussy. Focus, Dragon. Get your head out of your ass, I think to myself.
We’re about to wrap up church for the time being when the door bursts open. Everyone jumps, drawing their guns to point at the intruder. I freeze at the realization the intruder is none other than Connors.
“What the fuck is up with women barging in here? Do you all have a death wish or something? I swear, Prez, one day someone’s gonna fire off a shot and ask questions later. This shit needs to stop,” Burner mutters as he puts his gun away.
“Shut the fuck up, Burner,” I growl.
“Doctor Connors, do you have a reason for barging into our meeting like this?” Twister asks from his position at the head of the table.
Turning back to Connors, I take a second to appreciate what she’s wearing before deciding she shouldn’t be allowed out of the house in it. She’s in leggings that show off her shapely legs and a top that is sheer enough we can all see her nipples through the bra she has on. Fuck, the sight of them have my dick instantly hard.
“I’m sorry, Twister, I didn’t mean to intrude, however, when a patient demands to be discharged and goes against doctors’ orders after waking up hours prior, it kinda puts you in a really bad mood,” she huffs, earning chuckles from several of the brothers who in turn receive her icy glare. It would be laughable at any other time but not after putting her life at risk walking in here unannounced.
“Still, you should’ve knocked,” Twister says, his voice stern yet the small lift of his lip tells me he finds this shit amusing.
“Well, if there's a next time, I’ll be sure to knock. Now, if you don’t mind, may I have a moment with the said patient?” she asks, placing her hands on her hips as she turns her glare on Gadget and myself.
Is it sad to want to fuck her right now? I much prefer this look to the one at the hospital.
Nodding to my brothers, I tap Gadget’s shoulder to get his attention. He’d been staring at Doc dumbfoundedly. “Let’s take this to another room,” I mutter and move toward our woman. I don’t touch her, but I show her out of the room and guide her to Gadget’s room where the three of us can talk without an audience.
The moment Gadget closes the door behind him, Connors is in his face. “Do you realize what you did could potentially be dangerous for your body?”
“I’m fine, Doc, nothing I can’t handle,” he replies, smirking, though his mood speaks differently. I can feel his tension and pain through the bond we share.
“Do
n’t try that bullshit with me, mister. I know you’re probably in pain. I mean, how thick-skulled do you have to be? You just woke up earlier today. You could get an infection if not treated properly.”
“What do you care if I left the hospital or not? It’s not like you cared enough to come check on me when I woke up. You left without so much as a hello,” he growls into her face.
“You sound like a baby whining for its mommy right now. You’re not my only patient and there were plenty of doctors to tend to you as I dealt with other things. And as for leaving without so much as a hello, screw yourself with a monkey dong,” Doc screams out the last part.
“Calm the hell down, woman,” Gadget mutters, stepping even closer into her space, causing her to back up. He continues moving until Doc bumps right into me, caging her in between us. Gently, I place my hands on her waist to keep her against me. “You want to know why I left the fucking hospital? Because I didn’t want some other fuckin’ doctor touching me. Hell, I didn’t even want those damn nurses coming in there gawking at me. And the reason for that is you,” he informs her right before pressing his lips to hers. On a gasp, he takes her mouth completely.
When she moans, I lean down and run kisses along her neck, loving the taste of her skin. I’ll never get enough of this and I haven’t even had her mouth yet. When Gadget lifts his head, he steps back just enough to turn her so that she’s facing me. I take her mouth, spearing my tongue into hers.
Damn, this is the best feeling in the world having her in our arms.
I’m not sure how long the kiss lasts before I pull away, all three of us breathing heavy.
“You’re ours, baby, just like we’re yours. When it comes down to someone taking care of Dragon or me, we don’t want some stranger putting their hands on us. We want you,” Gadget says huskily as he cups her chin to make her look at him.
