But Colette hit the red button, ending the call as the tears formed instantly in her eyes. She quickly dialed Clair.

“Hey,” Clair said by way of greeting.

Colette couldn’t say anything at first, her chest felt like it was caving in. She couldn’t speak or breathe.

“I’ll text you my address and see you in a few,” Clair offered.

“Thanks sis,” Colette said finally, crying.

She hung up and not a few seconds later, she got the address for Clair’s house, turned her phone off and turned left toward Clair’s house. She hit the button to turn on her CD player, skipped through a few songs and hit play, repeat and turned the volume up high.

The synthesizer started, then the drums in a wicked fast beat, and Jared started singing how he was closer to the edge. Singing how he wasn’t saying he was sorry and that one day he’d meet again. Imagining a time when the truth ran free, and falling short of glory.

It was perfect for how she felt right this very minute.

One day she’d see them all again, her father, her younger sisters, Gabe, Carter...when she got back from France.

But for now, Thirty Seconds to Mars was serenading her with ‘Closer to the Edge’ as she drove away from it all.

  Coming soon….Marry Me.
