“We used the recorder…I made a disk…I didn’t know what to do…I feel sorry for her, Nick,” Alice sighed. “You have the same look your father did…”
“Dad knows about this?” Nick asked very slowly, watching her nod.
“I needed some advice…I wanted to break it and pretend it never happened,” she said quietly. “But…your dad said I couldn’t do that because I would let it bother me…I didn’t want you angry…and sad…or hurt…and I didn’t know how to fix it for you…”
He watched as she fumbled through the words. “I’m not happy…and that’s putting it extremely mildly, Alice. I’ve been wrestling with it for days. Do I call the police and tell them? What the hell do I do?”
“If I get a vote…I say nothing,” she said softly, kissing him and sliding closer. “I don’t pretend to understand her anger, and I’m not happy at the…the pain it put you through sitting in the hospital…but she needs help, not…not arrested.”
“Hmm…I get the feeling you’re working to distract me,” Nick felt the shroud of uncertainty melting with each kiss she offered.
“You don’t appear to be fighting it very much,” Alice said with a soft laugh, winding her arms around his neck and relishing the male hands stroking over her back and behind.
“I’m a tad concerned at the amount of power you’re gathering…”
