Tesla rushed up then and reached for Maddox. “Give me my brother. I want to spin him around the dance floor.”
Forest handed him over.
“Oh, yes, big boy,” she said in that silly voice only reserved for when she talked to him. “You’re such a chunk, aren’t you?”
As she watched Tesla take Maddox to the dance floor, she suddenly felt choked.
“Are you all right?” Rahaxeris asked.
“Fine, I just need a minute…” Forest walked away from the party, out to the edge of the cliffs, where she stopped and turned back. She took a deep breath, trying to get her heart to stop racing. The ocean breeze cooled the tears on her cheeks.
Syrus came up silently behind her and wrapped his arms around her. She sighed and leaned back against him. For a few minutes, they just stood there, silently watching the party.
“You know, I’ve never felt from you what I’m feeling right now,” he said quietly. “What is this feeling?”
“Joy... Wild, unabashed joy.”
“Ah, yes. That’s it.”
“Look at all this, Syrus.”
“I am. It’s amazing.”
She turned in his arms and looked up at him. “We’re safe. There’s peace and oh, so much life. Children everywhere.”
“And Dryads,” he offered.
“Totally. How awesome is that?”
“Pretty awesome, my love.”
She put her hand flat on his chest and felt his heart beat. “Thank you.”
“For?”
“Saving me.”
“You are my heart, my soul, the breath I breathe.”
“You were the catalyst of so much of this here, now, when you came into my life.”
He shook his head. “No. It wasn’t me, Forest, and it wasn’t you either. It was us.”
The eternal bond that lived inside them lit up and pulled them together.
They kissed, silhouetted against the backdrop of the sea. A symbol of strength, honor, and love to all who knew them… They were legends.
The End
Acknowledgments
When the concept for Forbidden Forest first came to me, I had no idea it would become a seven book series. I have to thank a few people for sticking with me on this writing journey. First of all Amanda. You have been with me on this from the very beginning and you’ve helped me so much when I would hit a wall. You’ve listened when I was hyper with ideas and advised me through it all. You truly are my book’s midwife. They are my babies, but you tell me when to breathe, when to relax, and when to push. Thank you.
Thank you to my husband, my real life alpha male. My children for being sweet turkeys. My writer’s group, I love you all so much! You’re such good friends. A special thanks to my editors and beta readers, Val, Ally, and Kristy. A huge shout out to my FB group for all the encouragement and support, especially Jessica C.
And a heartfelt thank you to you, my reader. I hope you will stay with me and come on many more adventures in the future.
