Lucifer smiled at him, his eyes filling with respect again. “You are a unique breed of men. I will give you that. Actually, I would like the Heart to come along, and I understand that if he goes, you go. It looks like we don’t have much time, though. So, Commander, call for the Legion to meet us at the opening of the cave system. You, Warrior Laylen, the Heart, the Prime, and the Guardian will come with me.”

“One of those men is my mate. I would like to go along,” Raphael stated as he stepped forward.

“I am sure you would, father of the Prime, but you are needed here more than you are needed there,” Lucifer answered and gave Raphael a pointed look as he glanced quickly at the boys who were now standing around Raphael. Raphael glanced at each of Evan’s boys and saw that they were each about to fall apart with worry. Raphael looked back to Lucifer and nodded. “Remember, wise wolf, we each have a part to play.”

Lucifer turned back to Phenex. “We must go now. Too much time has passed already. The human doesn’t have much time,” Lucifer stated as he moved toward Phenex.

“What?” Josh asked in a panic. “How do you know?”

“Because I can feel his heart slowing. I may not be able to use these powers on Minos to locate him, but the other man you described works for Hell, so I can connect with his soul. Dommiel has a lot to answer for. Prime, Heart, Guardian, grab hold. We’ll be moving pretty quickly.”

Lucifer held out his elbows for them to grab a hold. They all moved closer to Lucifer as Phenex and Laylen went through the wall. They disappeared the moment they all connected with Lucifer.

  “Well, this sucks,” Xander grumbled.

  “What’s that, sunshine?” Shelby asked.

“It is our job to go with our alpha and protect him at all costs, as well as our alpha mate. Staying behind doing nothing is not an option or something we wish to do.”

“I agree, Xander. This is not a role I have ever taken, and I don’t like it,” Raith added between clenched teeth.

“Focus on your mates and keeping them safe right now,” Raphael offered as he drew Josh closer to his side. “Have faith that Lord Lucifer and the Legion will protect them, as well as rescue our mates.”

“I agree with Raphael. We need to have faith that they’ll all be safe. As much as this sucks and I have a clawing need to run after them,” Dante said.

“I wonder who that other man was. Lucifer said Dommiel. So who the hell is he, and what are they truly up against?” Dare asked.

“Dommiel is the name of the keeper of the gates of Hell. As Heaven has the pearly gates which are guarded by Saint Peter, Hell also has a gatekeeper,” Raffy explained.

“So this Dommiel could be the one responsible for guarding the gates of Hell?” Gabriel asked. Raffy nodded. “So if he is working for Minos, what does that mean? Can he open the gates of Hell and release all the evil souls within?”

“Not if his position is the same as Saint Peter,” Demetrius answered. “Saint Peter is there to guard the gates of Heaven and send souls to where they are to go, including Hell. He can open the gates and allow only the souls worthy to walk through them into the Gods Kingdom, but he cannot open them for souls trying to get out, although I don’t think that has ever been an issue.”

“Angel, how about we go do some research on this Dommiel while we wait? Maybe we can figure out what they are up to if we can find out who he is,” Christian said as he took Raffy’s hand, leading him out of the room.

“I will go home and speak with Carmichael. Maybe he can help with that information,” Demetrius offered.

Mitchell ran to Demetrius’s side and grabbed his hand. “But if you go home, will they allow you to return?”

“They should. I will not truly be going into God’s Kingdom, so I believe Carmichael will let me come back.”

“I’ll go with you, Demi, to make sure,” Zane offered.

Demetrius gave him a grateful smile. “How would you do that, Zane?”

“I don’t know, but I don’t like the idea of you going alone.”

“Is there a risk that they won’t allow you back?” Dante asked.

“Yes. I was only given permission to come here to help Rory, but now that he no longer needs me, they may call me home or keep me there once I return.”

“Then don’t go, Demetrius,” Rory rushed his words out. “Don’t risk not being able to return to your mates.”

“I truly believe they will allow me to return because I have found my mates. I think it will be fine, but I would like for you to come with me, Zane. Carmichael always makes me a little nervous.”

“Are you sure about this, Demetrius? We don’t need this information bad enough for you to risk not being able to return. Plus, Lord Lucifer knows who this man is. We can just wait and find out from him,” Raith stated.

“I am hoping I will be back before them.”

“No, Demi. It’s too great a risk.” Mitchell said desperately.

“I’ll go along too if it eases everyone’s minds. I have never spoken with Carmichael, but I do know of him. He is the liaison between Heaven and the Legion,” Ryland offered.

“I still don’t like this idea if there is even a small possibility that Demetrius couldn’t return,” Raith grumbled.

Demetrius smiled gratefully at everyone in the room. “Thank you all. I have never felt wanted before. King Ryland, thank you for the offer of your assistance, and you, Zane, but if it is causing this much concern, then perhaps I shouldn’t go. We’ll just wait for their return and see if Lord Lucifer can help us with the information we seek.”

“Our mate, not Lord Lucifer,” Mitchell said gently and squeezed Demetrius’s hand.

Demetrius gave him a soft smile. “Yes, our mate.”

“Well, I know what I can do. Milo is a human, and he’s hurt. I need to go get a room ready for him so I can start working on him as soon as they return,” Aaron stated and took a step to leave.

Raith grabbed his hand and pulled him back. “Hold on there, mate. You and Rory are never to be alone. I’ll come with you.”

“Raith is right, but none of you should be alone―you or your mates, Raith. We know for certain now that they want to grab all of you. We need to set up a guard schedule again for each of you,” Dante offered.

  Raith grumbled but nodded.

“Well then whoever needs to come with me, let’s go, because I need to be ready for Milo,” Aaron said in annoyance.

“Can we call for Noah to come and heal him if we need him?” Josh asked.

“Unfortunately, no,” Ryland answered. “A fae’s body needs time to heal and recharge after giving birth. Our powers are weak for a while after, and Noah had three. I don’t know how that will affect his healing, but if Milo needs him, we can try. I just fear that Noah’s powers will be too weak to have any effect.”

“Well, let’s keep that option, but for right now, I need to get a room ready,” Aaron stated and headed for the door. Raith and Rory immediately followed him. Cass, Xavier, and Gabriel followed them.

  “So now what?” Tucker asked.

  “Now we wait,” Dante answered.

  Chapter 10

“This is it. This is the door I saw,” Micah informed them.

“This fuck Minos has had this hiding place for so long. How did we not know about this?” Phenex said angrily.

“Well, he is a demigod, Phenex,” Lucifer answered with mirth. “A dead demigod once I get my hands on him, but he is still a demigod. He is very capable of placing wards around this place to keep anyone from noticing. Well, anyone but me, that is.”

“So how do we get in? Because I am sure the asswipe at least locked the door,” Taylor asked.

“You would think, right?” Lucifer laughed as he grabbed the doorknob, turned it, and pushed the door open.

Taylor’s eyes went wide in surprise, and then he met Lucifer’s gaze. “You did that.”

“Although I could have without a problem, sadly no. Someone with the ego the size of Minos’s makes a lot of simpl
e, stupid mistakes.” Lucifer chuckled.

Lucifer slowly pushed the door open and quietly stepped inside. Micah, Jesse, Taylor, Phenex, and ten Legion Warriors followed. Their eyes fell on the bed across the cavern. It was about forty yards away. Maddy sat with Milo’s head in his lap, his wrist pressed to Milo’s lips. Evan sat beside him and ran his fingers down Milo’s throat.

Slowly, quietly, they headed toward the bed, but all froze when Dommiel entered from their left. He walked immediately to the bed, not even noticing their presence. “Why you even bother trying to save this pathetic human is beyond me. I am only going to feed you all to the hellhounds.”

“You’ll have one hell of a fight on your hands if you try,” Maddy stated, giving Dommiel an evil smile.

Dommiel threw his head back and laughed. His gaze then returned to Maddy’s. “You and what army, pup? The three of you have no power, and that one is human. I hope it doesn’t hurt too much when the hounds feast on your flesh.”

“Well, you will personally be able to tell them what it feels like after you are devoured by my pets, and then regurgitated and reborn,” Lucifer announced.

Dommiel spun quickly to face them. His face pale and his eyes full of terror. “L-l-l-lord Lucifer.”

“Surprise,” Lucifer said happily. He slapped his hands together and rubbed them as a gleeful expression stretched his lips. “Now, Dommiel, you pathetic bug, who gave you permission to leave your station? As far as I know, only I can do that, and I certainly would never give that order. You know your place here, you hemorrhoid on the ass of Hell. You are to spend eternity guarding the gates as your punishment for your crimes, but lucky for you, you just got a promotion. I am moving you up to top hound toy. My babies will be so thrilled.”

“I am ever your servant, my Lord Lucifer,” Dommiel groveled and dropped to his knees, bowing his head.

“As much as I love to see a beautiful man kneeling before me, wanting to please me, you are not beautiful, and you don’t please me. Legion, take this dead man and place him in my private chamber until I can get to him,” Lucifer ordered.

“Please, my Lord,” Dommiel groveled as he moved on knees toward Lucifer. “I had to do as he asked. I was afraid of denying him.”

“Yeah, and I got a bridge to sell you,” Lucifer said teasingly, putting his hand next to his mouth and whispering the words loudly.

Taylor burst out laughing. When Jesse and Micah turned to give him a curious look, Taylor shrugged his shoulders. “What? He’s funny.”

“Thank you, Guardian. You are very amusing, as well,” Lucifer said, giving Taylor a smile before turning back to Dommiel. “Tell me where Minos is, and I may save you from the hounds.”

“I don’t know exactly where he is, My Lord. He was going in search of the young wolf’s sibling. He was going to check Malachi’s home for any information that would lead us to her.”

“I see, and why is this witch he seeks so important?”

“He will kill me, My Lord,” Dommiel choked out in a small voice.

“Yes, but I will torture your soul for eternity.”

Lucifer watched in amusement as Dommiel struggled with what choice to make. It also did not go past his notice that when the sniveling man knelt before him, he slowly slid his hand into his front pocket and extracted a black stone. All of a sudden, the room filled with over fifty giant demonic Nephilim. They rushed toward the group and the Prime, Heart, Taylor, Phenex, and the Legion began to battle. Lucifer was unfazed and stayed where he was, his eyes fixed on Dommiel.

“Minos must give a great blowjob if you chose to go against me. “Fluffy!” he called out and a massive hellhound appeared. He stood almost six feet above Lucifer’s six foot ten inches. Lucifer reached out a hand and stroked his flank. “You have been such a good boy, Fluffy. Look what I have gotten you,” Lucifer stated.

Dommiel began to tremble violently. “No, please, My Lord.”

“You chose against me, Dommiel. You summoned the Nephilim here. What else should I do with you?”

“I’ll do anything you want,” Dommiel begged.

“What does Minos want with the witch?”

“The beta’s witch mate has powers of the original six witch lines. He will be one of the most powerful witches ever, as well as Alison’s offspring. She is of the bloodline of Tribecca, the most powerful of the black-magic witches.”

“What does he want with the witches?” Lucifer asked again calmly, but his patience was running thin.

  “Please, My Lord,” Dommiel begged.

“Tell me now or Fluffy will begin his time with you.”

“He wishes to open the gates of Hell to release the demons unto earth. The witch Rory is now powerful enough to cast the spell needed to do it.”

“And what of the other witch?”

“Back up. Minos knows that the witch’s mate, along with the Prime, the Heart, and the Guardian will go to any lengths to keep Rory safe. He does not know who Alison’s other offspring is yet, but when he finds her, he may no longer need Rory. Alison’s offspring should be just as powerful. Minos knows that if he captures both of the beta’s mates, then he can use their love for each other to have them both do whatever he wishes.”

“Thank you, Dommiel. You have pleased me greatly,” Lucifer praised.

Dommiel sighed in relief, and his shoulders relaxed.

Lucifer smiled at him mischievously. “He’s all yours, Fluffy.”

The hellhound licked his chops and took a step toward Dommiel. Dommiel’s eyes went wide in terror, and he began to scramble backward, trying to get away from the beast. “Please, My Lord. I told you everything,” Dommiel cried.

“Yes, but you betrayed me by helping Minos in the first place and then taking these three men and causing a defenseless human harm.”

The hellhound pounced and wrapped his massive teeth around Dommiel. A blood-curdling scream escaped Dommiel’s throat for a moment before he disappeared with the hound. Lucifer took a step toward the bed where Maddy, Milo, and Evan sat.

“We must get him home, now,” Lucifer said, motioning toward Milo.

“But what about them?” Maddy asked and nodded at the chaos behind Lucifer.

Lucifer turned his head and looked behind him. “Yes. I guess they could use a hand, although the Heart seems to have things pretty well under control. The Prime is holding up rather well I think, too, but I guess seeing as they were so willing to put their lives on the line for you and came to rescue you, I should give them a break.” Lucifer turned to fully face the battle raging behind him. His eyes turned pitch-black as he allowed his immense wings to spread out behind him.

“Stop!” he ordered, releasing all his powers into the room in a wave, and all the Nephilim froze. The others stopped, too, and looked at the Nephilim in surprise.

“Legion, take these misguided warriors to the gallows to await my return. I will deal with them later. Prime, let’s get you and your family home where you belong. Come.”

Lucifer turned and went to the bed. He knelt on the side and looked to Maddy. “May I?” he asked motioning toward Milo. Maddy nodded without hesitation. Lucifer gave him a smile. “Thank you for your trust, young one. I will remember that.” Lucifer slid his arms under Milo and lifted him. He looked at the chains holding the three to the bed and they fell from their wrists.

“Thank you, Lord Lucifer,” Evan said.

“Everyone going back to the Prime’s grab hold, but watch where you grab, Guardian. As much as having your skillful hands on my body would have once excited me immensely, I don’t think your mate or either of mine would be too happy,” Lucifer teased.

Taylor gave him a shit-eating grin and laughed as he placed his hand on Lucifer’s back. “Damn, I really like you.”

  “And I you, Guardian.”

The moment everyone placed a hand on Lucifer, the group disappeared.

“Where is Alison’s other bastard?” Minos yelled.

  “We don’t
know,” the female witch kneeling on floor cried.

“You were her coven. Do you wish for me to believe she didn’t share this information with you?” Minos seethed.

“May I, My Lord?” another witch asked.

Minos turned his attention toward him. The coven of sixty black-magic witches all knelt on the floor before him. “Alison did tell us that when Matthew was born, the hospital tried to convince her that she had given birth to twins, but she wouldn’t be fooled by them.”

  “Why wouldn’t she believe them?”

“Because she would know whether she carried two fetuses or not. Well, at least that’s what she said.”

“And did you all believe her?”

“Not entirely. She did get pretty big when she was pregnant, and it did look like she could have had twins inside her.”

“Where did she give birth to them?”

“Manheim Hospital on the other side of town,” another answered.

“But all the records are gone,” another stated.

Minos turned to look at this woman. “How do you know that?”

“I work at the hospital. One day I noticed the kill enforcer, Raith Angel, at the hospital and I followed him. I knew he was the father of Alison’s baby and wanted to know what he was up to. Right before he and his party were about to go into the records office, he received a call. They left right after that, but not before I heard them mention Alison. Once they left, I went into the records office and pulled up Alison’s file. I wanted to delete it, but it had already been erased.”

“So Raith Angel never actually saw the files?”

“No. They never went into the records office.”

“So there is still a chance I can find her before they do,” Minos said absently.

“Her?” the witch questioned in confusion.

“Alison’s other brat, Matthew’s twin sister.”

“Alison told us that it was two boys the hospital was trying to convince her of.”

“So young Matthew lied to me. Very good, Matthew, but I will make your mate pay dearly for it,” Minos said right before he vanished.
