The Dragon Wrath: Book Two of the Arlon Prophecies

The old man glanced up and stared right through him with unblinking eyes. “He has been bitten by a Dread Guardian. The last Dread Guardian, mind you. Your friend has lethal Dragon saliva coursing through his blood.”
Except for the subtle cracking and popping of the smattering of torches, the room fell absolutely silent. The physician turned his head away while running his wrinkled fingers through his thick beard. “Most unusual. I would say that it is no small miracle that any breath remains within him at all. Since the dawn of this age, the wounds from a Dragon bite have indeed been fatal in every single case,” he declared gravely.
Paymer released a heavy sigh and pulled Mae’Lee close once again. “Then it is hopeless.”
The elder Sevasti leaned away from the table and rubbed his own right arm.
“Every single case that is…except one,” he said.
CHAPTER 37
Voices.
Muffled. Distorted.
Almost as if he were underwater.
Arlon battled to regain consciousness and fought to control his uncooperative eyelids. His left one finally opened partially. The sliver of light was warm yet subdued.
Where am I now?
He tried in vain to move his head, even slightly.
Am I still on the sailboat?
Was there a Dragon attack?
Or was that all just a dream?
A blast of horrific pain radiated out of his right shoulder.
Ouch…okay…okay…it wasn’t just a dream.
The agony forced his right eyelid to pop open. He might have even yelped a bit.
More voices.
Shadows moving.
A new, clearer voice. “He lives, he moves,” it said, obviously getting closer. “Thank the Zho. Reunions are far more satisfying than funerals, my boy.”
Wait…I know that voice.
A dark figure slipped into view and hovered just overhead. It took a few moments for Arlon’s recently awakened eyes to attempt to adjust.
“How is it that you are always unconscious when I first see you?” the man said. “At least we’re not in a slave cart this time.”
Arlon’s dry mouth cracked open, and he managed to whisper a single word.
“Kash?”
