Harmless (Pier 70 Book 4)

Epilogue
Wednesday, April 12th
“ARE YOU NERVOUS?” GANNON ASKED Seg as they stood on the back porch of the house Roan and Seg had just moved into.
The spacious two-story was in a quiet, gated community that offered them a little more privacy than either of their houses before had. With four bedrooms, they had plenty of room to expand and had a room always ready for when Seg’s mother came to visit.
Seg glanced over at the man. “I wasn’t nervous. Until you asked me that.”
The horrified expression on Gannon’s face was amusing.
Cam laughed, putting his arm around Gannon’s shoulder. “Leave the poor guy alone. It’s just the playoffs. No biggie. Just another game.”
Seg snorted. “Exactly. No biggie.”
“Really?” Gannon appeared confused.
“Of course it’s a biggie,” Seg’s mother called from where she sat at the patio table, Liam in his high chair beside her. “It’s the playoffs, you goofs. The Arrows are going all the way this year!”
Grinning, Seg scanned the people standing around. They’d all come over for dinner as a way to celebrate the fact that tomorrow was the first game of the playoffs for the Arrows. Everyone was there. Cam and Gannon, Noah and Dare, Hudson and Teague, Daniel and Lydia, Milly, AJ, and Miranda, as well as Seg’s mother, who had flown in yesterday so she could attend the game. Kaufman had stopped by for a few minutes earlier, and Phoenix had promised to stop by before the night was over.
Of course, Seg’s mother had claimed she’d only come to town to see Liam. And he knew that was high on her priority list, but he also knew his mother was vibrating with excitement that they were in the playoffs.
“Hey,” Roan greeted, coming to stand beside Seg.
He turned to face his husband, grinning. He still couldn’t believe they’d tied the knot and he officially got to refer to this man as his husband. March fourth. Their anniversary.
It had been a small but perfect ceremony with only their closest friends and family in attendance. Cam had officiated and the day had been perfect. They’d intended to keep it small and personal, but to Seg’s surprise, Cam had reached out to Phoenix, and several of Seg’s teammates had come to crash the after party. Seg imagined that day felt a whole lot like what it would feel like to win the Stanley Cup.
“Need anything?” Roan asked, his eyes locked with Seg’s.
“You,” Seg whispered, leaning in so his mouth hovered by Roan’s ear. He lowered his voice even more. “Naked. With your dick in my mouth.”
Roan shuddered, pulling back to look at him. “Say the word and I’ll send them all on their way.”
“My mother’s here,” Seg reminded him.
Roan frowned.
“We could always sneak inside while everyone’s outside,” he proposed.
When Roan didn’t argue, Seg took his hand, setting his beer on the table. Without saying a word, he pulled him into the house, then led the way down the hall to their bedroom. With a quick flick of his wrist, Seg had the door locked. He wasted no time at all, crushing his mouth to Roan’s while he started pulling articles of clothing off. Roan wasn’t a wallflower, by any means, and the next thing he knew, they were both naked.
And yes, Seg instantly dropped to his knees, sucking Roan into his mouth as he looked up the length of his body.
“I’ve been waiting for this all week,” Roan groaned.
Seg hated being away from Roan and Liam when he was on the road, but he’d learned that when he came home, Roan usually made it up to him. Since Seg’s mother had shown up yesterday, they hadn’t had time to play catch-up from the few days Seg was gone.
“Fuck, yes,” Roan hissed, his fingers tugging Seg’s hair, jerking his head closer. “Fucking suck me.”
Seg deep-throated him, his fingers digging into Roan’s thighs as he held on to him.
“Can I come in your mouth?”
Seg gave a slight nod, then increased the friction and the movement of his mouth. His one goal was to drive Roan right over the edge.
“Later, I’m going to fuck you in the shower. I’m going to drive my dick deep into your ass… Oh, fuck, Colton. I’m gonna come… Ahh…”
Seg swallowed Roan down as he came on a strangled moan, then quickly got to his feet.
“I think that might’ve been a record,” he told Roan, turning him so that he was facing the bed. “Bend over.”
Roan bent over while Seg retrieved the lube from the nightstand. Within seconds he was balls deep in Roan’s ass, gripping his hips as he ground his pelvis against Roan.
“Fuck me,” Roan insisted. “God, I’ve missed you.”
Seg couldn’t speak, his body strung tight as he fucked Roan roughly, pounding into him, his hips jerky, completely out of control. He wasn’t going to last, but that was the point of a quickie, so he had no intention of apologizing for it.
Seg heard the back screen door slam shut.
“Better hurry,” Roan urged, rocking into Seg.
Seg picked up speed, pounding into Roan, focusing solely on the sexy man in front of him. Seconds later, he soared right over the edge into a blissful climax.
And not a moment too soon.
The doorknob jiggled across the room.
“Seg? Roan? Dare said you better get your asses outside,” Teague hollered from the other side of the door.
Seg retreated to the bathroom at the same time Roan replied with, “Why?”
There was no answer.
Within minutes, they were both cleaned up and dressed.
“They know what we were doing,” Roan told him, his cheeks flushed.
“I’m sure they do.” Seg wasn’t sure whether he should be embarrassed or not, so he put on his game face as they headed down the hall toward the kitchen.
Everyone was still outside, which was a plus. Perhaps they didn’t know.
“They’re on the way,” Teague announced as Roan pushed on the screen. “I’m pretty sure they were sneaking in a quickie.”
Okay, now he was embarrassed. Then again, he should’ve known. Roan had already warned him about Teague. The guy had come out of his shell in recent months, and somewhere along the way, he’d seemingly lost the filter from his brain to his mouth.
“Teague!” Three voices said in unison, all eyes going to Seg’s mother as Roan and Seg stepped outside.
Deb giggled but turned her attention to Liam. “Your daddies are silly, you know that?”
Yeah. It was clear she knew what they’d been doing.
“There they are,” Teague informed everyone unnecessarily.
“What’s goin’ on?” Roan asked, looking around.
Dare stepped onto the bottom step of the deck, his gaze floating from face to face, a smile forming on his lips as he did.
“The suspense is killing us,” Gannon informed him.
“We’re getting married,” Dare announced.
“Uh…” Roan’s forehead creased. “That’s not news, Dare.”
“What I meant to say is”—his grin widened—“we’re getting married right now.”
“What?” Milly squealed, getting to her feet. “What do you mean right now? You can’t get married right now.” Her head snapped over to her stepbrother. “Why didn’t I know about this?”
“Because we didn’t want a big production,” Noah said, taking Dare’s hand.
Both men looked at Cam expectantly.
Cam retrieved an iPad and headed over to the couple.
“Wait!” Milly shrieked. “You can’t be serious. We need a best man.”
Roan stepped forward, moving to stand beside Dare.
“That’s only one,” Milly said, frowning.
Hudson got up from his spot at the table beside Deb.
“What about your mom?” Milly asked Noah. “And my dad?”
“We’ll call them afterward,” Noah told her.
“No, seriously,” Milly countered.
“We’re serious,” Noah told her. “I’ve been asking
this man time and time again to give me a date. If he wants to get married today, then I’m going to marry him.”
“What about a marriage license? Did you think of that?”
Cam reached into his back pocket and retrieved what Seg could only assume was a marriage license.
“This is not funny,” Milly groused.
“We’ll let you put together a party,” Dare told his future stepsister-in-law.
“Really?”
Seg was shocked at how that seemed to appease the woman. In the short time he’d known her, he’d learned that Milly Holcomb was the female equivalent of the Tasmanian devil. Sure, she’d been a little subdued when she was pregnant, but Seg had seen a different side of her since then.
“Are we ready now?” Cam asked, glancing around. “I assume no one is going to interrupt this ceremony or insist that these two should not be married.”
All eyes went to Milly.
Her fingers went to her mouth and she zipped the imaginary zipper before moving closer to AJ, who was holding their sleeping daughter.
When Cam spoke again, Seg moved closer to his mother, his eyes on the life-changing event taking place in front of him. Although he was happy for the couple, he couldn’t take his eyes off Roan.
His husband.
It was amazing how much his life had changed from a year ago. He’d come out of the closet to the world and married the man of his dreams. They had a son, a house … a life.
And to think, it all started with a little harmless one-night stand.
Seg grinned.
Yeah.
It was safe to say there was absolutely nothing harmless about that night.
And if he could go back and do it all again, he damn sure wouldn’t change a single thing.
Oh, except maybe a little more than one night in the beginning.
Then again, he had a lifetime to make up for all the time they’d lost that first year.

Acknowledgments
There were times when I wondered whether this book was actually going to be written. Throughout the first three books, I knew something was going on with Roan, but I wasn’t sure what. I knew something was going to happen to his sister, but it wasn’t until I was writing it that it all made sense.
Okay, now on to the acknowledgments. I know that I will likely leave out someone important, but here goes.
First of all, I have to say thank you to my amazing husband who puts up with me every single day. If it wasn’t for him and his belief that I could do this, I wouldn’t be writing this today. He has been my backbone.
Chancy Powley … Chancy, Chancy, Chancy. All those hours spent on the phone is what motivated me through this book. I love our brain storming sessions and I hope we have many, many more.
