Antares stirred slightly as they settled back down. Naveenah burrowed into his arms. Nikolai lay running his hands over her neck and back. A new life started that night, not only in the child he knew she had conceived, but it was as if everything he’d ever known in his life was gone, as if it had been nothing more than a practice run.
Tomorrow the new rule began on Vaturia, and Vaturian and nay-chi alike would work side by side to see their planet thrive once more.
A sense of melancholy spread over him.
“I wish Mother could have been here to see this.”
Antares rose up on his side, placing his hand beneath his head and looking over Naveenah’s body.
“She would be so proud.”
Naveenah caressed each of their cheeks with her palms. “She is so proud.”
Nikolai felt such comfort in her words, for it was true. If it was the way the nay-chi believed, his mother still lived, only now in the great realm of Chibelle where she could see what became of her children.
As Naveenah kissed Antares, no doubt starting another round of passion between them all, Nikolai gathered three glasses filled with nectar and brought them to the bed where he offered a toast. “To Vaturia…and to a new day.”
The three toasted that sentiment, losing themselves in one another and the love they now shared. The restoration had just begun. Difficult times awaited them, but their life together would be good, the family they built would be strong, and the love they had begun to share would be extraordinary.
