Spring's Destiny
Page 20
“My, Queen hold onto me.” Winding my hands up into his mane he takes off at a gallop, feeling his muscles bunch, I grab a little bit tighter. He jumps, and we launch into the sky. It feels like I’m floating. The wind whips me in the face. I hope we don’t have far to go. Getting comfortable, I watch as we skim the treetops. Looking down, it’s breathtaking. I can’t wait to learn to fly.
“My Queen we are two minutes out. You might want to prepare they are going to need your help.”
“On it.” Taking off my jacket, I let it fall to the ground before. Now all I have to do is think about it and my power comes to me. I don’t know what I’ll see up ahead. But I do know it’s a fight for life.
Chapter 29
Seeing smoke up ahead doesn’t prepare me for what I see. There are guardians in the air fighting. Some are falling to the ground their wings being ripped off and flutter to the ground. Their screams of pain pierce the chilly morning air. Covering my mouth so that I don’t cry out, it’s like a dagger going my stomach. These men are fighting for me. My tattoo burns brighter. Anger replaces the sadness. I want to hurt those that are hurting my men.
“Storm, get us low but don’t land, stay with me. We’ve got to fight hard, my loyal friend. Who’s doing this?”
“Maddox and his ahh … father.” He dives lower, “I’ve got you, my Queen. Rain terror on them.”
Stretching out my arm I let my power surge; I watch as it hits a few of the demons on the ground. Hearing them scream, puts a smile on my face. I see Andy and Sammy fight six demons at the same time. They look up, the moment I fly by them low.
Andy yells something to the men in the air, and they break from fighting to form a barrier around Storm and me. Nodding, I squeeze my legs, letting Storm know we are ready to roll. He gets back up into the air. I let my energy fly into some demons coming straight at us. The burst into flames falling like boulders to the ground. The guardians, that are flying with me, take four of them out. The sky is clear for now.
“Storm to the ground.”
We take another dive and head to the ground fast. He pulls up just in time to land in the middle of the fighting. “Get to the sky and stay above me.” Jumping off I grab my dagger. Grabbing a demon by the throat, I drop him like a fly. It doesn’t take long for the others to notice me they start circling me like I’m their prey. I see Andy and Sammy up ahead, trying to get to me. I take out three more demons that are in my way. There are thousands of them everywhere. All fighting. The hellhounds are coming from the north they are picking them off like crazy. I see Jax for a second he’s sure holding his own. That fae has power seeping out of him.
The demons keep circling me. Making sure my men can’t get to me. They are keeping me for someone. Maddox or Luc.
“Come out you prick I’m done playing games. I will take out all your demons even if it kills me.” I yell.
I watch as the demon’s part letting someone through. Maddox and what I presume is his father. That would be the King of hell he’s got a cloak on I can’t see who it is. The fighting stops as everyone watches what’s going on. I stand my ground. I’m not afraid. Andy, Jax, and Stayne make it through the horde of demons surrounding us.
“Stay behind me; this is for me to take care of.” They do as I ask. For the first time in their lives, they listen. It could be because of the power rolling off me. I’m taking my rightful place. Maddox has only eyes for me.
“Why do you come to my house, and cause chaos, Maddox? I take a step forward. “Your kind is not welcome here.” I hear Andy telling me not to get too close.
“Is that any way to talk to your lover, Spring.” He walks toward me, circling me. I keep my eyes on the older man. He’s more of a threat.
“We were NOT lovers, Maddox. You're delusional.” I growl. My tattoo starts to glow.
“Tsk, Tsk, he says in my ear. I feel him press against me. I have to bide my time.
“Stayne, block them from coming to me.” Out of the corner of my eye, I can see Jax stiffen up. He moves my hair from my neck, “You liked it when I kissed you here before. “He says sliding his fingers down my neck. I can hear the guys yelling, but Stayne must be holding them back. “When your mouth was sucking on me…”
Turning suddenly, I grab him by his shirt. Laying my hand on him. I feel my energy flowing through him. He grabs me but can’t shake me loose. I push more, and he flies backward. The guys start fighting the demons, shit all hell is breaking loose. Maddox gets off the ground stalking toward me. I run and tackle him down, pushing more and more power into him. He starts shaking on the ground. Feeling hands on my shoulders they rip me off him, throwing me five feet into the air. I flip landing on my feet, crouching down I draw my dagger. Everyone stops fighting to see what’s going on. The older man is helping Maddox off the ground shaking his head. Turning toward me, he takes a few steps. Tensing, I watch him like a hawk.
“Now, now Spring is that anyway to treat your brother.” He says giving me an evil grin. He pulls his hood back.
“Oh, hell no,” it’s Luc “You can go back to hell,” I yell. There’s no way that Maddox is my brother. “That thing is not my brother.” I spat. Stayne pads over and stands next to me. Shit, he’s speaking the truth.
“Is that any way to speak to your mate, Spring.” He says laughing. I start to feel dizzy this can’t be happening, there’s no way this man can be my Mate. I fall to one knee. My head starts pounding. Looking up he’s grinning at me he’s doing this.
“Fight him Spring; we cannot help you with this. Don’t let him win.” Jax sends me. I hear Andy and Sammy yelling for him to let me go.
“Yeah, easy for you to say, Jax, he’s not trying to blow your brains up.” I send back.
Grabbing my head, I close my eyes trying to even my breathing out.
“Oh, please you are stronger than that, Spring.” Jax sends. I just know that cocky fae is rolling his eyes at me. Shaking, I start to push him out of my mind. I see the look of shock cross his face, but he hides it quickly. Standing up my fists at my sides. I get him out of my mind. Flicking my hand up, I blast him with everything that I have. It throws him twenty feet into the air. He catches himself in the air. Hovering.
“You want to play with me little girl.” He sneers. The guys are trying to get to me. “I will break every bone in your body, make you suffer. Then you will take your rightful place in hell mated with me.” He hits me with such force that we slide across the ground. I hit him with another power ball throwing him off me. He’s on his feet before I can blink. Standing I lunge at him. He swats me away like a fly. I land in a heap on a woodpile. The breath is knocked out of me. Rolling off the wood, I fall on my side hard. I’m sure I have a few broken ribs. On my hands and feet, I struggle to stand. I throw another energy ball at him, but it’s weak. I’m getting weak fast. My body is trying to heal itself on top of me fighting.
“You’ve had enough Spring. You single-handedly took out half my demons. I will send more to take out you guardians, legions and legions of them.”
“I will not bow to you,” I say standing up straighter.
“Bring him.” He yells to some demons. They part once again. I see who they have dragging between them. By heart shatters in two. The guardians fight to get to him, but it’s no use. We are outnumbered.
“What do you want, Luc?” I ask feeling defeated. I see him smile. He walks over to me. He’s not afraid he’s got the upper hand. He walks around me, looking me up and down. It makes me shiver. He stands behind me. Taking his hand, he runs it up and down my back. Trembling, I take a step forward.
“I want your wings.” Shouting starts all over. I can’t keep up with it. “I will get you at some point. I get your wings, and I won’t let anyone kill him. And you can stay here for now” He says pointing to Nick.
“Stayne, If I do this can he back out of it?”
“No, my Queen but do you understand what he wants. What he’s asking of you.”
“I do, but what can I do? I can’
t let them kill him, they will take his wings, there’s no honor in that. What would he do? I just got mine. How can I miss something that I just got?”
“You will never fly, my Queen.”
“I will on the back of Storm.”
“He doesn’t think you will do it. No one has willingly given them up.”
Looking over to my guardians, I see and feel the horror of their stares. Shaking my head, why does it always happen that I’m the one that still has to take off my fucking shirt in front of everyone. Taking a step forward, I make eye contact with Andy. He’s freaking out. Sammy is the same way. They are screaming at me not to do it. My eyes find Jax and Reggie. They are both ready to attack. Walking in front of Luc. He’s got a smug grin on his face. Standing tall I slowly unbutton my shirt letting it fall in a puddle at my feet. My guardians all turn their backs to me I realize in a show of respect. Hearing Luc laughing, clapping his hands looking happy.
“I will kill you, Luc,” I growl. He looks at me, and I watch as the smile comes off his face. Looking back at Luc, he’s licking his lips look at my breasts. I will my wings to come out. He steps back taking them in.
“Kneel.” He growls. My arm starts to glow. Looking him in the eyes, I fall to my knees. My head held high. I will not show fear. He kneels beside me.
“This is going to hurt like hell, my lover.” He whispers in my ear. He walks behind me. Out of the corner of my eyes, I see him grab a sword.
“Luc,” I say loud enough for everyone to hear.
“Yes, lover.”
“I’ll be coming for you.”
The smile on his face vanishes. He takes his time walking around me. “Spring, please call me by the full name Lucifer.” He murmurs. I find Jax in the crowd I never take my eyes off him. It’s like he’s making me look at him.
“Keep looking at me Spring. I will be here after, I promise.” I look at Andy’s back.
“NO, Spring you look at me dammit. Keep your eyes on me. I can’t help you if you don’t.” I find him once again and keep my eyes on him. I watch as a single tear slides down his face. A tear slides down my face as well. The sword slides through the air, the impact of the slicing through my wings is catastrophic, the pain is excruciating making me fall into my hands.
“Spring, NOOO,” looking up Nick is struggling with his chains. “What have you done, I’m not worth it…”
The blood slips down my back like silent tears of the guardians crying. The pain is horrific I can’t stand it anymore taking a deep breath I let a scream out that could wake the dead. I stay that way as all the demons, Maddox and Luc leave. I know this isn’t over by a long shot. My power reeves up, making it so no one can come near me. Looking at the ground, I’m sitting in a puddle of my blood.
“Spring, power down, let us help you.” Andy pleads.
“Stay away from me,” I yell. I’m at my breaking point I don’t mean to take it out on him. I see them all talking with Jax. I can’t hear what they're saying, but I know it’s about me. Andy doesn’t look happy about it.
Jax walks over to me. My power does not even faze him. Gently he picks me up in his arms and walks toward the house. I cry into his chest. Gripping, his shirt hard.
“Shh, shh, Spring it’s going to be OK.” He murmurs to me. I feel him kiss my head as he makes it to the house taking the stairs two at a time he has me in my bedroom. Shutting the door, he sits me in a chair by the fireplace. He goes into the bathroom, coming out with my robe. He puts it on backwards, so it doesn’t touch my back. I watch as my guardians amble into the room. Jax comes in front of me kneeling. He takes my hands in his.
“Kiss me Spring, let me make you sleep while you heal. Let me take the pain from you. Please, I beg you.” Looking into his eyes he’s in agony, so am I. His lips meet mine gently. I feel something enter my mouth and go into my lungs it seems to be making my eyes grow heavy, I struggle to get up, what is he doing to me.
“I’m sorry baby; I had to.” He whispers in my ear. He holds my shoulder tight and out I go. Into a place where there’s no more pain, no sorrow, just peace.
Chapter 30
Moving, I stretch my legs out on the bed. I’ve never felt so good. Opening my eyes. I take in the room. I’m in my bedroom; it’s dark other than the fire in the fireplace. Sitting up, there’s no one in here I’m alone. Throwing the blankets back I slowly get up. Looking down I’m in a white cotton nightgown. Damn my head is fuzzy. Nothing a shower won’t help. Heading to the shower I turn the jets on. Letting my nightie fall to my feet I look into the mirror. I look perfectly fine in the front. Tears well up in my eyes knowing that my back must be a mess. Closing my eyes, I turn around slowly. Opening them, It, can’t believe what I’m seeing. There’s only faint scarring where my beautiful wings once were. Wiping my eyes, I fall to my knees. I let it all out. The tears flow freely, not just for my wings but for the men I have lost, for my late husband, for Nick. I scream and scream until nothing is left, but anger. I can deal better with rage.
Getting up, I get into the hot water. And let it work its magic. All the blood in my hair washes down the drain. Turning the water off, I grab a towel wrapping it around myself and another one for my hair. Wiping the fog of the mirror I do look better. I comb out my wet hair leaving it down. Opening the bedroom door, I’m still alone, there’s a tray of food next to the fireplace. Going to my closet, I grab a pair of jeans and a soft cotton flannel to wear. Getting dressed I head back to the fireplace. Turning a few lights on as I go. Sitting in the chair, I grab the steaming mug of coffee bringing it to my lips. It feels good warming me from the inside. Eating what’s on the plate, I sit back staring into the fire.
Playing back everything in my head, there was nothing that I could have done differently. I know that. It doesn’t make anything easier. I’ve made my mind up a few things. Jax keeps coming into my thoughts. It’s like I feel what he is, I know what he’s thinking. Getting up, I head downstairs, being as quiet as I can, it’s only five in the morning. The hallway is dark as I hit the stairs, I see a soft glow coming from the great room. At the bottom step, I know Andy is talking to Reggie and a few other guardians. They all look over when I walk into the room. Andy rushes over to me. Putting my hand up, he stops.
“I’m fine.” Looking at them, I head into the kitchen to get more coffee. Heading back into the great room, I go over and sit next to the fire. They don’t say anything. Just drink their coffee.
“I have a few questions.” I stammer.
“What’s it you want to know Spring?”
“I was hurt bad. I know. What I would like to know is why I don’t want blood bad right now?” Did I feed on you guys last night?” Looking at them a look of anger crosses Andy’s face, but he masks it quickly.
“No, we didn’t feed you Spring. Jax did his blood…” He doesn’t finish.
“His blood what Andy?”
“With how bad you were, you would have had to feed off all of us, and it still wouldn’t have healed you all the way.” He murmurs running his hands through his hair.
“Where is Jax?” No one wants to tell me. Looking around the room, the two guardians I don’t really know get up to leave.
“Stay” I growl. Andy’s eyes go wide.
“Answer my question, Reggie.”
“You almost drained him dry; he had to give you almost all his blood. He had to go to his land and heal Spring.” He gets up and hands me a letter. Running my hands over it.
“Who are you guys?” I look at the guardians.
“We are Michelle’s guardians my queen.” The tall one says. Holding in my anger, I have to take a few deep breaths.
“Is that so…”
“It is my Queen.”
“Why has he not graced us with his presence? “I growl.
“Spring…” Andy warns.
Standing up I’m more pissed than I ever have. “NO, Andy,” I shout. “Where is that fucking pussy at?” I yell staring at them. Our yelling brings in other guardians. My hair sta
rts flying around my face. My power is ramping up. Reggie stands up with his hand on his sword. I know all hell’s about to break loose.
“You are young, new, my Queen. You don’t ever talk about my King that…” the taller one goes to say. Lifting my hand, I let my energy fly right at him. He flies back and crashing into the couch topping it over.
“This is MY house. YOU are my guest. Remember YOUR place! Andy stands to my right Sammy is close behind him. The other guardians are behind me. Reggie is a bit closer but laughing his fool head off.
The other guardian helps his friend up. With the back of his hand, he wipes the blood from his lips. Staring at me he doesn’t move, but there’s murder in his eyes. Grinning at him, I dare him to come at me. I’m done, and things are going to change.
“Spring?” Andy asks.
I walk over to the center of the room. Standing there I look at my feet, turning I look at the two guardians.
“You tell you…” I stop feeling someone come up behind me. He doesn’t know what personal space is. Fingers move my hair away from my neck like a gentle kiss.
“Why don’t you tell me yourself, my sexy mate.” Michelle purrs. Turning, I do the only thing I know to do.
I lay my hand on his chest.
“SPRING” Andy growls. Reggie is just laughing his fool head off again.
