Seeing Her

“How was your shift?” she asked, pulling Chloe in for a hug before she even closed the door behind her.

“It was good,” Chloe said. “You know how I get sick of the music at Jubblies? I got them to play some different stuff tonight.”

  “You talked to the DJ?”

Chloe nodded proudly as she stepped into Jennie’s bedroom. “She’s actually pretty nice. She told me to come talk to her anytime.”

  “That’s amazing.”

Although Jennie wanted to pull Chloe’s clothes off all over again, she told herself to wait long enough to catch up with her. With their conflicting schedules, these moments were valuable.

Jennie had booked as many night classes as possible so that she could be home while Chloe was home, and they went to the gym together several times a week. It still wasn’t the same as spending their whole work night together, which they had done for far too short a time. Someday they would spend every night and day together. For the moment, Jennie would treasure the time that they had.

“Oh, I almost forgot the other thing I was going to tell you,” Chloe said, lying down and snuggling into Jennie’s arm.

Jennie brushed a hair from Chloe’s temple. “What?” She truly wanted to hear about every second of Chloe’s night at the restaurant… but a pressure was also building inside her, increasing with every second she spent next to Chloe.

“Tony hired new waitresses,” Chloe said. “I guess business is picking up.”

“Hmm… are they hot?” Jennie teased.

Her jealousy was only half for show. Now that Chloe was acting friendlier with the other girls, Jennie did sometimes fear that someone would steal her away. Chloe seemed to only have eyes for her, though. She had never given the slightest indication of being less than a hundred percent into Jennie.

“They’re all right,” Chloe said, laughing. “They would never take me away from you. Nobody could do that.”

“I love it when you tell me that.”

Jennie slid her hand along Chloe’s arm, enjoying the way it was soft and strong all at once. Chloe aroused her constantly. As her clit hardened, she kissed Chloe’s neck with more urgency.

Chloe squirmed away. “I haven’t forgotten about the real question. Did you get your first exam back?”

This was the wrong time to talk about school. Jennie’s mind was decidedly on other things. She pushed Chloe down to the mattress, her kisses landing just inside Chloe’s collar as her hand slipped under her waistband. “Yes,” she murmured.

Chloe didn’t resist her. She inhaled sharply as Jennie stroked her clit. “And… how was it?” She threw her head to the side, gasping against the pillow. “It must’ve been bad. You don’t seem to want to talk about it.”

Jennie undid Chloe’s zipper so she could pull her out of her shorts. “It was good.” She slipped her hand between Chloe’s thighs. “Eighty-two percent.”

“Eighty-two! With a mark like that, I should be the one getting you off.” Chloe turned over, pushing Jennie down even as she climbed between her legs.

Lifting her hips enough for Chloe to work down her panties, Jennie sighed in pleasure. “Okay, you can do that as long as I get to do the same to you after.”

A few orgasms later, Chloe flattened herself against the bed. “I am exhausted.”

“I could stay up all night, but I do have school in the morning.”

Nodding, Chloe curled up in an adorable little ball. “I’ll see you at the gym around two, then?”

She would still be sleeping when Jennie got up. They had fallen into a routine of meeting at the gym, then seeing each other after Chloe’s shift. “That sounds good,” Jennie told her.

Jennie rubbed her back and watched as she quickly fell asleep. A good orgasm always knocked Chloe out, while it gave Jennie a burst of energy. Still, Jennie had no complaints about their bedtime ritual.

There was plenty of time. She could still stay up for a few more minutes. She moved to the desk and picked up her phone, pondering. The mark on her first exam had been better than she’d expected.

Then again, all of her tests up to now had gone well. She hadn’t failed a single thing. It was as if her adolescent experiences and her passion about the subject matter had actually made her smarter. Back in high school, she could never have imagined grades like this.

All of it made her almost believe she was succeeding. Was she ready to admit it was true? While the idea was terrifying, the evidence was overwhelming. It really didn’t seem like she would flunk out of college. Her scholarship was here to stay… so maybe she could stop doing things she didn’t want to do.

For the past three months, Chloe had turned a blind eye to her dealing. Jennie had kept it small-scale, only dealing to Kylie and a few other friends. Although she was aware that Chloe wasn’t happy about it, she liked the safety net the extra money provided. Now… maybe it was time to take away the net. She didn’t need it any more, especially when it could be interfering with her relationship.

Going silently out to the hallway, she pressed her supplier’s number on her phone. Ray was always up this late. That was part of the lifestyle that Jennie was eager to get out of.

Ray answered after only a few minutes. “Jennie, what’s up? I have some great product for you. Your clients are going to love this stuff. It’s the best shit I’ve had in ages.”

Jennie took a breath. She pictured Ray’s filthy apartment and her stressful lifestyle. People calling her at all hours, demanding more drugs. Dealing with sketchy people. Running from the police. As a small-time dealer, she’d only had a taste of that life, and it was more than enough. She was ready to get out of it.

“That’s what I’m calling about,” she said. “I’m not going to sell anymore, so I don’t need anything else from you. You hooked me up for a long time, so I thought I should give you a heads-up. Thanks, but I’m out.”

“Seriously? You always do so well. Where else are you going to make this kind of cash for so little work?”

Although Jennie paused to choose her words, her resolution didn’t falter. “I’ll be fine. I’m back in school, and I’m going to get a real job when I finish.” A job she could be proud of. Where she could make a difference. “It might not be a high-paying job, but I’ll get by.”

“Damn, that’s a shame. Take care, I guess. You know where to find me if you change your mind.”

As Jennie hung up, she already knew that was never going to happen. She was with Chloe now – a woman who deserved a social worker rather than a drug dealer for a partner. She would do whatever it took to be enough for Chloe.

Already feeling better about herself, she climbed back into bed. Chloe smiled in her sleep as Jennie moved behind her and wrapped her arms around her back. She held her tightly, spooning her. Lying here like this, she felt like she could keep Chloe safe forever.

She wanted to spend every single minute with Chloe. Her girlfriend was the only thing that had made Jennie feel like going back to school was even possible.

Chloe was the best thing that had ever happened to her. And Jennie planned to love her until the day she died.
