“I was there when you first met her. She didn’t know who you were so do not make it seem that she is one of those puta who thinks fucking someone with Mafia connections is worth bragging about.”
Reid poured himself another shot, but the burning liquid that sloshed down his throat could not purge the images that flayed his mind.
A rainy day…
A shared umbrella…
A kiss in the night that should never have happened…
“She’s engaged,” Reid snarled. “Have you forgotten that fact?”
He threw his shot glass against the wall and it shattered into pieces. Whatever dreams – whatever fantasies he wanted with her were destined to be shattered, too. There was no point prolonging the inevitable when they were not meant to be.
“She’s not for me---”
The door to the office suddenly opened and Reid spun around, his face whitening when he saw who was standing there.
His angel.
Her voice was soft, shaky, but full with conviction as she said, “I want to be yours.”
Something dropped to the floor.
Reid’s gaze moved down, and he sucked his breath in when he saw her expensive engagement ring glittering on the midnight-black carpet.
Over his head, he heard her talk again, her voice as angelic as the rest of her. “I want to be yours,” she whispered. “So please…please don’t make me leave you.”
