Blake was standing not more than two feet from her.
She stood up immediately, unsure of what to say or what to do. So she just answered his question with the truth. "Yes. I am really going. After what happened between us yesterday, I couldn't just stay and pretend it never happened. You made it clear that you didn't want me and so, I am moving on with my life."
The conductor began to call for tickets to her train and passengers started to board. She retrieved her valise and stepped forward to get in line to board her car.
Blake's hand shot out to touch her arm and to stop her. "But I do," he said. She stared at him like she hadn't heard what he'd said. He said it again. "I do. I do want you. I was wrong, Viola. I was scared. Scared of commitment. Scared of responsibility. And now I'm afraid I've lost you."
"Why didn't you tell me any of this yesterday?" She asked as the conductor called for tickets again.
"Because I didn't really know how to," he answered with a genuine eagerness. "I'm inexperienced and I just messed it all up. I thought I could have it both ways. When I found out you were leaving, I realized I only want one way." He sighed, "I truly thought I was doing the right thing by not rushing and building a relationship through friendship. It may have worked if I'd just shared my ideas with you," he continued.
He put his arms around her and pulled her close. "I love you," he said. "Please stay."
At that moment, as she felt her heart began to patter excitedly in her chest, Viola heard the whistle of the train as the conductor called last call.
Feeling rushed and pulled in too many directions, Viola stared at Blake and tried to make sense of what was going on. Of course, she wanted Blake, but she did not know if she should trust him. After all, he had rejected her on more than one occasion.
Still, as she looked at him now she could not imagine a more genuine plea.
When she didn't say anything at first, he added, "I know I acted badly, but I am asking for your forgiveness, hoping that it isn't already too late to receive your mercy."
Then, before she could even think too much about what she was about to do she heard her lips answer, "Blake, I love you, too." And then she kissed him.
Immediately, Blake kissed her back and wrapped his arms around her.
It was now that Viola realized this was the first moment of the rest of her life. There was no more guessing and no more maneuvering. She was finally home.

Other Western Romance Authors I Recommend
I enjoy reading Western Romance books and I read often. I thought you might like to see some of my favorite authors so that you can check them out to see if they’re a fit for the kind of reading you love.
Jenny Creek Tanner – Jenny is a country girl who writes about cowboys and heroines who tame them. She’s one of my favorites.

Lorena Dove – Lorena is a relatively new author who is writing a different kind of Mail Order Bride story. Her heroines are immigrants in her Sweet Land of Liberty series.

Indiana Wake – Indiana is a prolific writer. She has published many books and most of them deal with difficulties faced by the heroines. Her main characters face and overcome the same issues many of us face every day. I love her honest approach.
