“The days last for over thirty hours here,” I explain. “It’s strange, but the sun dips behind the planet in the middle of the day and everyone takes a long, relaxing break when the sky goes dark.”

UrTak pulls me close to him. I know he’s enjoying the fact that I’m the one educating others about the moon instead of the other way around.

“Do you mind if I steal you away?” he asks. “We have one more stop to make before we head home.”

I look to the women. “You know how to reach me with the communications device?”

Kelsey nods. “We’re fine.” She drops her voice a little. “Go, have a nice mid-day shade.”

I laugh and wave my hand. I know the women will have a million questions for me next time we’re alone. Until then, I’ll be happy just to know they’re safe.

UrTak walks me down a long corridor, lit from above with soft blue lights. He slides his hand into mine and I squeeze his large fingers and run my thumb across his palm.

We’re at a research facility a short flight outside of the CrysMond. When we arrived, several KrysOlakns in what looked like laboratory robes greeted us without much of a word, then left us alone to walk down these endlessly long corridors as the facility stretched into the ground beneath a large cliff.

“I was proud to hear what you told the humans about KrysOlakns,” he says. “Our women would be pleased to know we have maintained our honor, even without their companionship.”

I lean my cheek against his shoulder, then reach my hand to his back. His horns are beginning to break through and I trace my finger along the bony protrusions. “They would see it for themselves the second they got to know one of you,” I say. “Although I’m pretty sure there’s no one on the planet as brave as my man.”

“My woman,” he growls, and I tremble.

I brace myself to ask the question that’s been tugging at my mind. “Do you think we’ll find Marie and PryZor?”

He tenses but doesn’t break stride. “We have launched seeking drones toward the barbarian planets. Our next best move is to attack the Wehizx and see what we find. If they do not have information that leads to our family, we might still uncover the location of Earth.”

“Our family,” I say, repeating the phrase he used. It grabs me, tugging at my heart.

“All of you,” he says with confidence. “My destined is my family, and her people are my people. This is how it has always been.”

For a moment, I think he’s about to say something more, and maybe ask me a question. After a pause, though, he continues.

“In the old times, the joining of families, friends, and villages was one of the most joyous moments. The stars would bring two together not simply to mate, but to bring their worlds together, too. Fortunes were made and wars won in this way. Along with our second growths, the creation of a new bond between communities is among the most important milestones in our lives.”

“KrysOlakn women have second growths, too? Is that where my psychic abilities are coming from?”

He pauses before a large metal door that stretches to the ceiling. “Our women never gained psychic abilities. No species but the Wehizx have demonstrated those powers. Instead, the second growth made KrysOlakn women young again. Their bodies would not only age backward, but they would become stronger and more agile as any damage to their bodies healed. They would gain energy like they never had before and it would last for many, many years, long after they began to age forward once more.”

“So my psychic powers are not a form of second growth?”

UrTak takes my shoulder and squeezes it. “They may well be. There is much we don’t know about your abilities, Loretta, or why my horns are growing while my charges still lie dormant. But I hope that we might find some answers here.”

He pushes the door open and inside I see what looks like an endless warehouse. Circular lights float like frisbees in the air, illuminating the cavernous space, which is filled with pile after pile of mangled metal and destroyed technological equipment. I stare for a while before I realize what it is I’m looking at.

“That’s a lot of crashed Wehizx ships,” I say with a grin.

“Indeed. And most of this wreckage has proven useless to us.” He begins to walk down the length of the warehouse, guiding me with him. “But thanks to you, I believe that is about to change.”

When we round a corner in the wreckage I find myself standing before a massive arrangement of main controls. The giant pearls sit, each with a few feet of empty space around them. They come in all different sizes, from baseballs to one the size of a car, although most are similar to the one I switched on. A scattered few are attached to other types of mechanical equipment, but the remainder are alone on the metal floor.

I gasp as something inside of me responds. A light turns on, somewhere behind my eyes, and I can sense every one of them. At the same time, my anxiety spikes.

I feel like I’m approaching a snarling wolf.

“Do you respond to them?” UrTak asks.

I nod quickly and take his hand, my heart racing. “I do.”

  “Can you tell me anything?”

I feel out my new psychic sense, now present at the front of my mind. It’s like a tingle that keeps moving when I try to put my finger on it. I can intuit every one of the main controls, and I can also feel a sort of emptiness around them, like something is severed.

A vision of the Wehizx who stroked my mind appears, floating in the middle of my consciousness. I can feel his fingers on my skull and smell his rotten odor like he’s right there. My anger lashes out and I force the image away like it’s no more than a bad memory, but I still feel the blood drain from my face as nausea grips me.

UrTak rests his hand on the small of my back, steadying me. “Loretta, are you okay?” He glares at the main controls and growls. “I should not have brought you here.”

“No, it’s okay,” I insist as I steady myself. The creepy aliens aren’t here, I know, and when I concentrate I can drive the lingering psychic pain away. “I can just sense the Wehizx when I try this, and the one who touched my mind especially.”

UrTak draws his hand in a slow, comforting circle across my back. “You should not do anything that puts you in danger.”

I shake my head. “I’m not in danger. And this is our best shot at saving Marie and PryZor.” I grit my teeth and nod. “Just keep your hand here, okay?” I ask and squeeze his hand. “It helps me remember that I’m safe.”

UrTak agrees, purpose in his gaze as he strokes my back. I steady myself and turn to the pearls again. When I reach out to sense them with my mind, I work to maintain control and none of the nightmarish visions return.

“They feel severed,” I say. “Like they used to be part of a network, but now they aren’t anymore. I still think I can turn them on, though.”

Pride shines on UrTak’s face as he watches me. “Astounding. You have barely held these powers, and already you speak with such authority.”

Emboldened by his encouragement I close my eyes and sense them all again. Like shadows on the edges of my mind, the horrible memories linger, but I concentrate on my breath and center myself in my body and UrTak’s reassuring touch.

I’m safe, and I have the power to do this.

  “Should I turn them on?”

I open my eyes and look to UrTak. He cocks up a grin, then pulls me into a kiss. The crash of his lips against mine surprises me so much I laugh.

“I take that as a yes?”

“If you think you can safely do that,” he says, “please.”

I look out over the pearls and take a moment to gather my thoughts. Then, I flick the switch in my mind.

One main control glows first, then another, and soon enough, the whole warehouse full of them shines with a soft white light.

I stumble against UrTak. I’m nauseous and weak in the knees, but I’m okay.

“Woo hoo!” he hoots as he catches my weight. I laugh at his excitement and beam with pride.

“I’m getting powerful,” I say, kind of stunned.

“You have always been powerful, my destined.”

  Chapter Twenty-One

  Loretta

UrTak pulls the tunic over my head and tosses it aside. He runs his hands up and down my side and I shiver with pleasure as my nipples harden. We’ve been back for three days, but still, neither of us are satisfied. The second we finish with our daily tasks—him strategizing with his squad and me orienting the women to the moon—we throw ourselves together with a passion that only grows hotter.

I’ve never felt like this before. His hands scorch my thighs as he pulls my legs apart. I fall backward to the bed with a whimper and his hot breath lands on my folds, already wet for him.

I had my share of boyfriends on Earth, not that any of them turned out to be worthwhile. From the guy who tried to steal my identity to the college sweetheart who cheated on me with a friend, they always disappointed.

Maybe that’s why I can act like this with UrTak. I trust that he’s never going to disappoint me. I trust that he’ll never hurt me or fail me, and so I can give myself to him.

I can let his lucex surge through me, leaving me quivering in his wake.

His tongue folds as he shoves it deep into my pussy. Its hard pressure rides my throbbing clit as he finds my breasts and I throw my head back with another moan.

He says my biology is not unlike his species, and that’s why he knows so instinctively how to stroke me and guide me to pleasure. But it’s also the ways that he’s different that matter to me.

My hands land on his horns and squeeze. They’re hard in my hands and I can feel his heat throbbing against my palms. I ride my hips down as he licks his fat tongue up, working it in against my spot as I gush down his chin.

My whole body comes alive and although I don’t know what to do with them I can feel my psychic senses soaring. It’s the first time I’ve felt them this powerfully without being around Wehizx technology. Immediately, my yearning aligns with my psychic pulse and they drive me to grope at UrTak’s back and reach for the hard nubs of his growing horns.

He pulls away. UrTak kicks his pants off and mounts me on the bed and I feel his lucex. The silver on his forearms sparks and his eyes flash with a fierceness that causes me to melt.

That’s what is different about sex with him, I realize. Not the weird alien special effects or the giant purple muscles I love to grab. And it’s not the thick, thrumming cock he slaps against my lips and rides up my clit.

It’s him, and me. And desperately, I want to join with him in every possible way.

I am strong enough to take him, and he is powerful enough to hold me.

What is different about UrTak is the fact that I love him.

I moan as his lips find my neck. He sucks and licks as he whispers my name. “Loretta. My beauty. My Loretta.”

“Oh fuck, UrTak,” I moan, and wrap my legs around his waist. Hard against my pussy, his cock twitches and leaks. “I want you inside me. I want to feel you in every part of me.”

He grabs my side and bounces me up. I land on his hips and stretch my arms back, steadying myself on his ropey thighs. “Anything on this moon that your heart desires, you will have it,” he tells me.

I hold his gaze. The thin diamonds of his pupils stand strong as the gorgeous swirls of blue stare back to me. My breasts heave against his firm pecs as my heartbeat races.

Again, I feel a surge of my psychic powers as faint silver energy thrums across his body. I try to reach out and stroke his power with my mind but an explosion of pleasure sends me rocketing back into my body.

UrTak grips my side and lifts me. I rotate my hips to tease my folds across his slick crown and whimper his name. When he bucks forward I let go of his thighs and grab his horns to steady myself. We make a loop of energy as I ride down onto his cock and moan while the vibration stretches me.

“I feel you,” I whisper. “I feel you everywhere.”

“You are my destined,” he growls, and pumps into me.

I pull myself by his horns, bear down on his cock, and press my lips to his ear. UrTak thrusts up and holds me there, pulsing as my walls clench.

“I love you,” I whisper. I don’t know if it will mean the same thing to him that it means to me and I can hardly stop to explain it with pleasure driving me mad, but I need to let the words out.

“You love me,” he says with deep satisfaction. “And I love you.”

He thrusts again and I throw my arms around his shoulders as our hearts beat together. I find his back horns and grab at them greedily. They’re emerging, breaking through the skin. My body opens and I become totally psychically aware. It’s hard to explain but an energy in the room becomes palpable to me, like the surface of a pond waiting for me to drag my finger across it.

“I love you,” UrTak repeats as I feel his lucex tingle my nerves. He throws us to the bed. The vibration of his cock thrums my spasming walls as a rising orgasm dominates my total awareness.

“UrTak!” I moan his name desperately as my climax blinds me. His lucex detonates in a way it never had before as his crown lands against the bundle of my nerves at my G-spot and his wet seed fills me.

“My beauty,” he gasps. His hand lands on my cheek and the tender rub of his thumb sparks another quake from my thighs. “My Loretta, look.”

I blink, and when I can see again I almost scream. Behind UrTak, two bony protrusions slowly spread, wide and proud. They are thin and spiked at the top and they rise out sideways, stretching what looks like skin as they extend beyond his shoulders. Wonder fills UrTak’s face. He shakes them and the tight skin stretches, then drops as the bones extend once more.

Wings. Thin but strong, they remind me of pterodactyl wings, or bat wings.

The alien I love has grown wings.

I clasp my hand over his and hold it to my cheek. “My love,” I say, so surprised I can’t form a proper thought.

UrTak hooks his arm around my waist and helps me up. My body is weak and shaken from the orgasm. He climbs off the bed and stands before me, then stretches his wings wide. They extend, becoming longer yet, and with a tremble the purple flaps catch the light.

  “You grew wings.”

UrTak flexes them a couple of times. He folds them in and they become tight behind his back so I only see the horned ends sticking above his shoulders.

Even with the wings withdrawn, he’s more imposing. I look up to him and hold my breath as he settles into his stance, then spreads them wide again.

“Was this common?” I ask. “Did many KrysOlakns grow wings?”

UrTak extends a finger and places it on the bottom of my chin. He pulls my gaze up and holds it firm. “Never before you,” he answers.

I grab his hand and kiss the back of it. “Really?”

“Perhaps it makes sense. Our second growth did not simply combine the DNA of two mates. Our lucex, triggered by the dark moon, would wake a more ancient DNA, dormant in our bodies. We believe the source of this genetic coding to be a remnant of another ancient species, lost ancestors who came before the KrysOlakns.” He pulls his hand through his long hair as he thinks carefully. “Perhaps, long before memory begins, life on our two planets came from the same lost ancestors.”

I blink, trying to take it all in. The universe is confusing in ways I’m only beginning to understand, but opening my eyes to it is an amazing experience.

Another question jumps to the front of my mind. “Does this mean you can fly?”

He tilts his head to the side and flaps the wings. They send a powerful gust around the room, tossing the sheets and knocking a few things off the tables. Nothing happens but when he stretches them out again he suddenly launches up and slams into the ceiling.

Urtak falls to the ground with a grunt and I stumble forward to meet him. “Are you okay?”

He shakes the wings as he stands. “It was like they caught something, like a powerful breeze.” He stretches out his wings and tilts t
hem carefully. This time, he rises off the ground but seems to maintain control, hovering as the wings tilt to a horizontal angle.

UrTak lowers to the ground again. He beams with pride as he practices, rising up toward the high ceiling, guiding himself slowly, and then landing with a thud at my feet.

I throw my arms around his shoulders and reach back, stroking the hard spikes that line the top of his expansive wingspan. UrTak growls in response and grabs the back of my head as he pulls me in for a deep kiss.

“It feels strange,” he says. “It aches, but in a good way.”

He stretches the wings out once more, catches whatever phantom wind he rides, then soars up toward the ceiling. His naked body towers above, his cock heavy between his legs as the wings softly flap.

“I want to stretch them,” he said. “My body wants me to stretch them.”

“They look pretty stretched,” I laugh. The wings are expansive in their reach across the vaulted ceiling of his bedroom.

UrTak gives me a funny look. He drops to the ground, grabs his pants and stuffs his legs in, then turns to the window.

My heart jumps. “UrTak!” I picture him falling and crashing to the ground and my heart breaks. “Don’t!”

He looks to me and the calm on his face tells me everything. My psychic awareness hums and I know it as clearly as he does.

UrTak pushes the floor-to-ceiling window open. Flying vehicles zip by as the many towers of the KrysOlakn cliffs stand proudly against the bright, busy sky.

He bends his knees, leaps out the window, and instantly, his wings catch him.

He soars through the air, arcing in a path that quickly rises above even the tallest buildings.

  UrTak can fly.

  Chapter Twenty-Two

  UrTak

The wind rushes through my hair and the sweet KrysOlakn air caresses my skin. I soar above my city and feel the strength and tactility of my wings. I falter to the side, almost losing my momentum, then catch myself again. The strange, wind-like force catches the flaps and the muscles that now stretch from my shoulders tighten. My movements are still a little shaky but the flaps of my wings are sensitive to this force and I let it do all the work.
