Dante leaned in closer to Nikki’s face. He was so close that she could feel his hot breath as it slammed into her face when he said, “I’m Dante. That’s who I am.” He took a deep breath. “Open this damn phone before we put you out in all that snow naked. Have you been outside today?” He chuckled, knowing the answer to such a crazy question. “It’s cold as fuck out there. Wind and shit, you know? Shit, I think it’s supposed to be below zero later on, but I wouldn’t know shit about that ‘cause I ain’t gon’ be out in that shit. But, let me tell you, you gon’ be out there if you don’t open this fuckin’ phone.”

Nikki glanced toward the window, only being able to imagine what it must feel like outside. The very thought of being out there without clothes on terrified her to the very core. Reluctantly, she grabbed the phone and unlocked it. Edric then let up and let go of his fistful of her hair.

With the phone now open, Dante and Edric backed toward the bedroom door as Nikki stepped back and grabbed her head. “Shit,” she said.

“Stop all that crying,” Dante said. “You gon’ be okay.”

Nikki watched for a few long, silent moments as Dante took his sweet time to search through her phone. “What are you looking for?” she asked.

“Just looking,” Dante said. He then looked up at Nikki. “I think you lyin’.”

“Lyin’ about what?” Nikki asked. “I ain’t got shit to lie about. If I knew something, I woulda told you already.”

“Who you call last night?” Dante asked.

Nikki looked away, knowing such a question was something she didn’t want to answer. Dante picked up on her lack of response, as her silence was definitely the elephant in the room.

  “Well?” Dante asked.

  “Nobody,” Nikki said.

Dante looked at Edric, the two snickering. “Bitch, you must wanna go outside,” Dante said. He then pointed at Nikki and told Edric, “Take this bitch's clothes off and get her outside so that she can know how fuckin’ serious I am. I don’t know why this simple ass bitch ain’t caught on to the fact that I ain’t playin’ no damn games with her ass.”

Nikki screamed as Edric walked toward her. “Okay, okay,” she said. “I called Breon and my friend Gracelyn.”

“Hmm, well, isn’t that interesting?” Dante asked, rhetorically and sarcastically.

“Let me go,” Nikki said. “Look, I can even tell you where his cousin live, and you can go talk to him about findin’ out where Breon stay. I swear, I only met back up with him last week. I don’t even fuckin’ know where he live. Shit, I don’t even know if I can remember his last name or not.”

“Cousin?” Dante asked. He glanced back at Edric once more. The two of them realized that the other was thinking the very same thing. Dante then took a moment to pull his cell phone out of his pocket. He quickly scrolled through his videos and pulled up the video that he and Edric had taken during their visit to Wayne’s house.

Nikki leaned in as she realized that Dante was showing her something. “What is this?” she asked, as she was waiting on the video to upload. “What the fuck are you showing me?”

  “Just watch,” Dante said.

Nikki watched as the video finished uploading. She was shocked at what she saw. She watched the several minutes that showed Wayne, with his pants down as he was bent over the dining room table, being whooped by a belt – a belt that was held by Dante. In fact, Nikki immediately recognized the background as being the very same dining room where she’d gotten into a fight – the very same house where Breon had stopped the fight to help her upstairs.

“You are so sick,” Nikki said, feeling disgusted. “Why would you do some shit like that? And tape it?”

“’Cause,” Dante said, glancing down to make sure that Nikki’s phone was still unlocked. “I had to get my point across ‘cause, like you, that nigga just wasn’t gettin’ the point that I wasn’t fuckin’ askin’ you to give me information, I was tellin’ you. So, like you, if you decide you wanna be stupid and shit, I had to show him what happen when you fuck around with me. Now, I got this shit on tape, and that nigga in the video know that if he fuck around and tell the police about that shit, every fuckin’ website is gon’ have that shit. He gon’ have to run up outta Chicago and probably go vegan or some shit.” He paused and smiled. “So, is that the cousin you was talkin’ about?”

Nikki remained silent. She looked into the eyes of a person she now realized was a monster. He was a monster that even God probably couldn’t help. Judging by the video – how he used every bit of his strength to slash Wayne’s bare ass cheeks – he was ruthless and would do anything to get what he wanted.

“So, what that nigga say last night?” Dante asked. He knew she probably wouldn’t say the truth, but he still wanted to hear her answer.

“I called him because I wanted to know what the fuck was goin’ on and why the fuck was I pulled into it,” Nikki answered.

“And what he say?” Dante asked.

Nikki looked away once again, as she didn’t want to answer the question. The reality of the matter was that Breon hadn’t really said much. Yes, there was a bit of concern in his texts, but she started to wonder if the concern was really for her wellbeing or if the concern was over whether or not his bitch Trina would find out what was going on. Just thinking about how nonchalant he took the matter when he should’ve jumped out of bed and come to save her from wherever she was, caused anger to build inside of her soul. It was so insulting, to say the least.

“He ain’t say nothin’,” Nikki said.

“Hmm,” Dante said, shaking his head. “Nigga probably know wassup, but he ain’t smart enough to fuck me over…at least, not again. So, I hear you was talkin’ to the police?”

“I called my fuckin’ roommate back because she was wonderin’ what the fuck happened last night,” Nikki explained.

“Roommate?” Dante asked. “You mean there was a fuckin’ other person in that apartment last night?”

Nikki nodded. “Yep,” she said, realizing that Gracelyn and the fact that she’d called the police could very well be her last hope. “She heard the door being kicked in. When she came out and found that I was gone – or taken, I should say – she called the police.”

Dante looked at Edric. His eyes conveyed many messages, one of which being the regret that he felt at not making sure nobody else was in the apartment.

  “Okay, okay,” Dante said.

Dante took a few more minutes to look through Nikki’s phone. When he found the pictures that Nikki had taken of herself to send to Breon, he made sure to show them to Edric. Of course, as any man would, his eyes bugged out of his face at the sight of her big, round ass. He looked at her even closer now, licking his lips. Dante snickered and pushed him back, telling him to “calm the fuck down.”

“So, here’s what we gon’ do,” Dante said. “Let me hit this nigga up and see if he answer.”

Nikki sat back and watched as Dante dialed Breon’s phone number from his phone. Once it had begun to ring, Dante held the phone out for everyone to hear, putting it on speaker phone. Breon answered after the third ring, “Hello?”

“Wassup nigga?” Dante said, smiling. This moment – talking to Breon – was a moment that he’d been waiting for; a moment he’d been thinking about since he languished behind bars because of Breon’s shady ways.

“Who this?” Breon asked, the sound of traffic in the background.

“Nigga, don’t act brand new,” Dante said. “You know exactly who the fuck it is. I don’t even know why you try’na act like you don’t. Nigga, it’s me. It’s Dante.”

“Man, what the fuck is wrong with you?” Breon asked.

Dante looked at Edric and snickered, then Nikki. He shook his head. “Nigga, I’d suggest you talk to me like you got some fuckin’ sense. I hear you out there runnin’ scared and shit. Doin’ stupid shit ‘cause you hope that you find me and shit.”

“Nigga, I don’t hope,” Breon said. “I will. I know where the fuck yo
u stayin’ and shit now. I saw you comin’ out that house and firing off some rounds on us and shit in the middle of the night like that. That was smart, I ain’t gon’ lie.”

“Nigga, fuck you,” Dante said then laughed out loud. “You simple ass nigga didn’t even see it comin’. I heard you and whoever the nigga you was with out in the car screamin’ like two little bitches when y’all was try’na pull off. I shoulda shot y’all niggas right there, but I got that address on papers and shit. I heard y’all stopped by and shit last night. Nigga, you fucked up big time for scarin’ my girls like that.”

Nikki tried to make some sense of what she was hearing. There was so much she didn’t know, especially considering that her very life was the one most at stake. She looked around the room, each minute now seeming three times as long as the previous minute. Soon enough, however, she’d put all of her attention back to listening to Breon talk.

Dante held his finger up to his lips, signaling to Nikki that she needed to be quiet. “Say a mothafuckin’ word and I swear, I will fuckin’ kill you, bitch,” he said, as softly as possible.

“Nigga, fuck you!” Breon said. “Nigga, you the one who’s hidin’ and shit, or else you woulda came and seen me and shit. That shit you did to my cousin was foul.”

Dante chuckled. “Man, it wasn’t that big of a deal,” he said. “I mean, we was just talkin’ and he startin’ talkin’ a little crazy and shit. So, I had to show him, and the nigga that was sleepin’ on that couch when I came through the door, that I was serious. That’s all. Don’t go bein’ a little bitch about it and shit.”

“What the fuck you want, Dante?” Breon asked. “Why the fuck is you doin’ this shit? Try’na stir up shit and make peoples’ lives a livin’ hell and shit.”

“A livin’ hell and shit?” Dante asked, now getting into his feelings somewhat. “Nigga, because of you, I was in a livin’ hell for years. You out, walkin’ the streets and shit, fuckin’ bad bitches and stuff, while I’m inside and just trying to fuckin’ survive and shit.”

“Nigga, I don’t know where you got this grudge you got against me,” Breon said, “but I heard you real fucked up in the head and shit. You need to hit that Pablo nigga up if you wanna know what the fuck happened and how you got caught up.”

“Nigga, I’m the one talkin’,” Dante said. “I know it was you that set me up and shit. I know it was you. As soon as you heard that the streets was gettin’ hot and stuff, you ain’t even have enough respect to let a nigga know.”

“Nigga, I ain’t your fuckin’ daddy,” Breon said. “Or wait, is you one of them niggas who ain’t grow up with no daddy and stuff?” Breon snickered. “I don’t know why you doin’ all this shit like it’s gon’ make a fuckin’ difference and shit. I heard the shit was gettin’ fucked up in these streets, so I backed the fuck out. If you ain’t hear, then maybe that was your fault and shit. Maybe you was too busy eatin’ pussy, since you can’t please no bitch, that you couldn’t hear what was goin’ on.”

Dante shook his head, now feeling a little offended. “Listen up,” he said. “Speakin’ of bitches, I got yours right over here.”

  “Who?” Breon asked.

Dante looked up and into Nikki’s eyes. He knew that hearing Breon say who in such an ignorant way must have made her feel some kind of way. There was definitely a tone under his voice that let them know he needed to be reminded of what bitch.

“You know, nigga,” Dante said. “Don’t act like you don’t know. I just had a little talk with your chick and shit, your love,” he chuckled, “and I know you know we got her, so don’t even act like you don’t know. I know that she was textin’ you and shit last night, probably try’na get you to come and save a hoe and stuff.”

“Nigga, that ain’t my girl,” Breon said, clearly not knowing that Nikki was standing nearby and listening. “I mean, yeah, I know her, but I know what you try’na do. I know the game you playin’. And it ain’t gon’ work. Fuck you, nigga. You not smart. I swear to God, you not as smart as you think you are. That ain’t my chick.”

“Nigga, we saw you goin’ into her place and shit last night,” Dante bragged. “We followed your simple ass right on over there and sat and watched. We woulda put a bullet in your head right then, but you lucky we ain’t wanna draw attention to ourselves with all them people who live over there. You real lucky.”

“Yeah, yeah,” Breon said. “Like I told you, nigga. That ain’t my chick.”

“Then why was she givin’ you a box and shit, nigga?” Dante asked, smelling a bold-faced lie. “I saw you take the fuckin’ box from her. And, accordin’ to that hoe,” he reached out and gently ran his fingers along Nikki’s thigh, “she was keepin’ your guns for you.”

“Damn, hoes can’t keep them mouth closed worth shit,” Breon said, under his breath.

Nikki looked down at the floor. While she’d never thought that she and Breon were an item, she now knew how it felt to feel like nothing. It was written all over Breon’s voice that her existence, and current situation, wasn’t really all that important to him. This wasn’t the first time a dude had done her this way, but it was the first time that her association with a dude had caused her to be kidnapped and held in some house somewhere in Chicago.

“Nigga, that bitch was just somethin’ to fuck,” Breon continued. “You just wastin’ your time and shit, thinkin’ snatchin’ her up is really gon’ do somethin’. Fuck all that.”

“Naw, nigga, I ain’t wastin’ time,” Dante said. “I got you right where I want you. Nigga, I hope you know that it’s just a matter of time before I catch up with you. Christmas is comin’ nigga, so don’t think that I’mma let up ‘cause it’s the holiday season. If I feel like it, I just might come and see you at work…over in Chinatown at Johnson & Pearl.”

“What?” Breon asked, clearly alarmed. “How the fuck you know where I work?”

Nikki wondered the answer to this question as well, as she didn’t even know where Breon worked.

Dante laughed out loud, purposely laughing louder than usual, almost in a sinister way. “Breon, nigga,” he said, grabbing his stomach from trying to hold back the laugher, “when you put a belt to a nigga’s bare ass, you would be surprised what kinda information you can get out of him. You’d be fuckin’ surprised. I was just watchin’ the video now that you mention it. Showin’ a couple friends. Nigga, that shit is funny.”

“Wait till I find you, nigga,” Breon said. “You can’t fuckin’ hide forever.”

“Oh, I know,” Dante said. “But I know more about you and what you do than you know about me.” Dante allowed a long few seconds to pass. “Nigga, I gotta get on with my day, and your side chick, if she barely that. I’mma be talkin’ to you real soon, though. Don’t you worry. I’mma be talkin’ to you real soon. You, and whoever you with, is a dead man walkin’. Swear to God.”

Before Breon could respond, Dante ended the call. He looked at Nikki. “You hear that?” he asked. “That nigga was like you was just somethin’ to fuck.” He looked at her shape and pretty face. “Can’t say I blame him.”

Nikki looked at how she could use the situation to her advantage, if such a thing was remotely possible. “Okay,” she said, “so now you know that I’m not his chick, and he don’t care nothin’ about me.”

“I know,” Dante said and laughed. “He don’t even give two shits about comin’ and gettin’ your ass. I thought that pussy would be betta than that.” He shook his head, looking down at where Nikki’s legs came together.

“So why the fuck don’t you just let me ago?” Nikki asked, trying to hide her anger at Breon. “Why the fuck are you holdin’ onto me when you see that havin’ me ain’t gon bring you no closer than you already are to that nigga?”

While this chick certainly did have a point, Dante wanted to make sure that he used every single thing to his advantage. He glanced at Edric as he shook his head. “Naw,” he said. “You still might be some use. I’mma hold on to you.”

  Nikki loo
ked into Dante’s evil eyes. With Breon making it very clear that he was not going to lift a finger to come get her, she realized her situation may have just gotten worse. The more Nikki thought about it, the more she became enraged.

  CHAPTER 7

Breon looked at his phone, wondering if the signal had dropped. Once he realized that this was not the case, he slammed his phone into the passenger side seat. He was still on his way to Ray’s place when Dante had called. At first, his mood was worried. No matter how hard he tried to deny it, he was definitely worried about the situation. He’d been caught up in some things back when he was in the streets, but the very thought of some of those same people from the street reaching back and pulling him in was just too much to handle.

“Fuck!” Breon exclaimed, pushing his fist into his horn.

Drivers in cars around him looked over, trying to figure out what was going on. Tired of feeling the same eyeballs looking at him, Breon eventually switched lanes and sped up. Everything Dante had said on the phone played over in his head. However, Breon was shaking his head soon enough. He almost smirked at how simple Dante could be. While Breon certainly didn’t wish any of this drama to have fallen on Nikki’s head, Nikki surely wasn’t a way to get him to show his face. Breon nearly snickered at how disappointed Dante must have been when he found out that the chick he’d kidnapped wasn’t even his girlfriend.

For the next twenty minutes, as traffic was still a little heavy and lingering from the morning rush hour, Breon couldn’t help but feel angry. The last call he ever expected to receive this morning was from Dante. He then wondered how in the hell Dante could have found out that he worked in Chinatown at Johnson & Pearl. This tidbit of information just didn’t sit well with him, even though he was somewhat happy to know what Dante knew. If Dante had been smart, he would’ve kept that information to himself.

“How the fuck that nigga know where I work?” Breon asked, out loud. “Fuck!”
