"Are you sure you want to do that?"
"Why wouldn't I want to? That means one less trouble for you, doesn't it?"
"It's just, well, I don't know about anyone being around that stone. Something's not right with it." Amanda couldn't help remembering back to the encounter with those tendrils earlier, and she wondered if what was wrong about the stone was so bad. Time made all awful memories fade to tolerable nightmares, and Amanda was no exception. The terrible dream with Professor Ward was overshadowed by the growing lustful need she felt for the creatures. Besides, maybe she could find some way of avoiding the phantoms that lurked within the stone.
"Well, if I feel a bad vibe from it on the way to the mountain I'll be sure to toss it out a window," he promised with a laugh. "For now let's just get some food into our bellies and watch a movie, all right?" When she didn't reply, he cupped her chin in his hand and lifted her eyes up to meet his own. "Things will be all right, I promise." Amanda managed a small, nervous smile.
"All right." She tried hard to sound convincing, and her efforts paid off with Tony. However, she couldn't be sure it was her smile alone that made him be fooled, but maybe him wanting to believe everything would be all right helped more than she cared to admit to herself.
"Good." He slipped his hold from her body and stood up. His stomach took that moment to growl its disapproval at its neglect, and he sheepishly grinned. "Now what was going to be for dinner again?"
"Spaghetti, but while you deal with the noodles and sauce I need to go to the bathroom."
Amanda went to her room and made sure to close the door behind herself. She wasn't surprised to find the rock not by the floor around the entrance, and glanced over to the bed. There it lay on the covers, tempting her with its sensual promises of future sexual escapades. She moved over to the bed and knelt before the rock as though in worship to some venerable object. The smooth, round surface reflected a dark mirror image of her own face, and she swore the reflection winked back at her. Heat flared up inside of her, but she squashed it down. Tony was back now, so now wasn't the time for such pleasures.
Amanda raised her arm and slowly reached over to the rock. Her fingers tapped on the surface, and nothing happened. Then she cautiously wrapped her hand around the stone and sat down on the bed to hold it in her lap. The object was so innocent, and yet held such dark promises. The addicting touches of those tendrils, and the feel of the creature as it took her again and again. She didn't even notice one of her hands had slid down into the elastic band of her shorts. Her fingers pressed up against the wall of her panties. She was already wet.
"You coming?" Tony shouted from the hall. Her hand jerked out from her shorts and she realized she was already panting.
"Y-yeah, I'll be right there!" she called back.
Amanda hugged it against herself and her eyes frantically searched the room. There had to be something around here that could break off a piece of the stone. After all, what harm could be done by keeping just a smidgen of that pleasure? It wasn't like Tony would be around tomorrow night to satisfy her increasingly demanding needs. When he went on his trip he could take most of the rock, and she'd keep her little memento. Maybe he'd even take away the part that held that horrible shadow of Professor Ward.
With her prize grasped firmly in her hands, Amanda slipped into the bathroom for something to break the stone apart. She found nothing but the hard tub, so that would have to do. With the door closed and a silent prayer, Amanda raised the rock over her head and threw it down into the tub. She winced in anticipation of the noise, and was utterly shocked when the stone bounced against the solid tub with a sound no louder than a rubber ball against pavement.
To her even great fortune the rock still broke apart on impact. Small pebbles and flakes scattered themselves clear across the bottom of the tub. For the first time she was able to glimpse the inside of the stone, and was almost disappointed to find there was only a small hole in the very center surrounded by layers of sand and small bits of rock. The bits of stone which poked out into the empty space were jagged, creating a crystalline effect with its reflective surface. It was pretty, but no black tar soaked out into the tub, no strange mist emanated from the broken parts. There was nothing abnormal about the rock at all. Still, she wasn't discouraged about what it could do, rather than what it looked like in the center.
Amanda noticed a large fragment, hardly bigger than a big marble, had also broken off from the main section. She stooped down and eagerly picked it up, and then looked around for a place to hide her treasure. She would have gladly opted for her pocket, but just touching it as she was caused her some distraction. A faint pulse of life emanated from the small stone, and in a moment she stuffed the fragment into a cupboard opposite the tub. She made sure the rock lay hidden behind several rolls of toilet paper and cleaning supplies.
"Amanda, you okay?" It was Tony again, but now his voice sounded more frantic. She even heard the jiggle of the knob to her bedroom door and knew he'd stepped inside the space. In a quick movement she tapped the handle on the toilet, rinsed her hands through running water and then exited the bathroom. She was distinctly aware of the large rock still sitting in the tub, and made sure she closed the bathroom door behind herself. There was a bright, chipper smile plastered on her face.
"Is the spaghetti done already?"
"Nearly, and I think I burned the sauce a little, but what in the world was taking you?" He glanced passed her to the closed door.
"With all this stress I think my stomach's a little upset, but I'm feeling better now," she reassured him. Amanda took his arm in her hands and led him back to the hall. "Now let's get some food to eat, I'm starving."
