I decided I didn’t give a crap if my best friend saw me naked, so I jumped up and threw my arms around her. “You bitch, how could you do this to me?” I screamed, squeezing her so hard I thought I might crack a rib.

“I was trying to surprise you,” she croaked, her arms stiff at her sides. “I guess now we both got a surprise.”

“Surprise!” I said. “I’m naked.” Giddy laughter burst out of me before I could hold it back.

“Yeah, could you stop hugging me now? I might have to file a sexual harassment complaint if it goes on much longer.”

“Oh, I don’t know,” Sawyer said. “I’m still enjoying it. Don’t be afraid to kiss, either, if that’s customary in New York.”

“Ugh, men are the same everywhere,” Haley said, stepping back as I released her. “I couldn’t even find a decent guy in Central America. How did you manage three?”

“I don’t know if I’d call them decent,” I said, smirking at Waylon, who looked like he was seconds from losing all control and fucking me senseless right in front of Haley. I didn’t want to traumatize her with the screaming that would entail, so I grabbed the blanket from the floor and wrapped it around myself.

“So…dinner’s ready,” I said, feeling more awkward now that I was covered than I had naked.

“Is it you?” Haley asked. “Because I think I already established my stance on eating pussy. God, Am, why do you keep trying to turn me into a lesbian? Lay off, would you? Haven’t I suffered enough tonight?”

I rolled my eyes at her, but I couldn’t help smiling. “I actually made dinner,” I said. “Why don’t you start while I go change into something more fitting for company.”

Five minutes later, I joined them at the table, where they’d set me a plate. Sawyer was serving the scalloped potatoes while Holden poured wine.

“I can’t believe you brought my best friend here without telling me,” I said, taking my seat. “I thought you were helping the neighbor.”

“Oh, we were,” Sawyer said with a smirk. “But we couldn’t resist the opportunity to spend some quality time with your friend, learning all about the woman we’ve grown to love so much.”

“You better not have told them anything embarrassing,” I said to Haley.

“Me?” she asked, her eyes widening. “Would I do that to my best friend in the whole world?”

“I hate you all,” I said, taking a large sip from my wine glass as they all burst into laughter. I couldn’t help but join them, though. I was so happy I thought I’d explode.

“How long are you staying?” I asked Haley.

She glanced at the guys and then shrugged. “That’s up to you. I hear you have some cabins for rent somewhere.”

My fork clattered to the table. “Are you serious? Don’t even joke about this.”

“I don’t have anywhere else I need to be,” Haley said with a shrug. “Besides, you never sent me that cow picture you promised. I figured I’d come get it myself. Maybe help you sling shit. See if ‘farm living is the life for me.’”

I laughed at her off-key singing of the last line. But when I thought about the last six months, what I’d been through and what I’d been missing, I couldn’t hold in a little scream of happiness.

“You all right there, Princess?” Sawyer asked.

“That’s her happy scream,” Holden said.

Waylon smiled and shook his head, and when our eyes met, the same thrill as always went through me.

“Just don’t come across this table to hug me,” Haley said. “There’s food on this one, and I wasting wine is, like, the one unpardonable sin.”

Quiet laughter sounded around the table, and my heart swelled ten sizes bigger. All these months, I’d been so happy with my men. We’d had bumps in the road, sure, misunderstandings and ranch mishaps. But we were comfortable now. By some miracle, their mother still seemed to like me, though she hadn’t come around to my cooking just yet. I even had one casual friend in town, and I could boot-scoot right along with her and Sawyer now.

The guys were a dream come true, each of them perfect in their own flawed way. They knew me so well, and they still loved me despite my flaws, too. They weren’t going anywhere, and neither was I. The only thing I’d been missing was my bestie, someone to share my most cringe-worthy moments, my vulnerable ones, and my little triumphs. And now she was here, too. Maybe not forever, but for now, I had everything I needed, and I let it fill me to the brim.

As I looked around the table at the food, the conversation and laughter, the ease and warmth, I knew I’d found the family that I’d never had growing up. I’d found people who loved me and took care of me and accepted me for who I was. It had taken a lot of growing up, but I’d stopped trying to make my parents see me the way I wanted, and I’d built my own family. My body flooded with happiness. I had all the love, acceptance, and friendship I’d ever wanted.

The mind-blowing orgasms were just a bonus.

  From the Author

Thank you for reading the Coyote Ranch series! I hope you enjoyed it. You left a review, right?

While I was writing this book, a few people asked me if the Westlings’ brother Cody would ever make an appearance. He did…but it took over the whole story, detracting from Amber’s journey. I ended up removing that part of this book so I could focus on the original story I planned when I started this series. But if you want to read that short excerpt to get closure, I am planning to release it as a bonus story later in the year.
